1. Wandin North Catharina’s Country Collection
Where’s Wandin North: You’ll find Wandin North just north-west
of Melbourne, in the Yarra Valley, surrounded by great wineries.
Where in Wandin North: 382 Warburton Highway. When coming
from Lilydale, just turn right on to the Warburton Highway from the
Maroondah Highway, continue for a couple of kilometres up the road,
and you’ll find us on the right-hand side, next to the bakery.
Who plays host: Howard van Egmond
Worth visiting because: A visit to our store is sure to be a real treat,
with our great new patterns from Wildcraft Farm and The Rivendale
Collection. You’ll find plenty of beautiful fabrics and sewing and
quilting accessories to tempt you, and we also stock Handiquilter,
Singer and Pfaff sewing machines. Machine servicing on most
machines is also offered. You’ll also find a great edge-to-edge quilting
service to finish off your quilts, or you can hire our machine and quilt
your own quilt in store. If you’d like to try some classes, we have a new
tutor starting, teaching classes in crazy patch and trapunto.
What we recommend: We are having great fun at the moment using
the Westalee Rulers, and we’ve put on monthly classes with Leonie
West, using her amazing rulers. Our customers just love them and
keep coming back for more.

2. Rosebud Sewing ’n’ Beyond
Where’s Rosebud: You’ll find the seaside town of Rosebud on the
stunning Mornington Peninsula.
Where in Rosebud: It’s an easy 55 minute drive on the Peninsula link
from Melbourne; you’ll drive past vineyards, art and sculptures along
the freeway. Turn right at the Jetty Road exit, drive 2km north up
Jetty Road to Point Nepean Road, turn left after the primary school,
then take the next left down Rosebud Parade, where you’ll find us
half way up the hill. You could also take the scenic route from the
Melbourne CBD down Point Nepean Road with a gorgeous outlook of
the beach, which should only take about one and a half hours.
Who plays host: Julianne Whinney
Worth visiting because: I have 15 years of experience in the world
of craft, which really sets Sewing ‘n’ Beyond apart. With our infectious
passion for craft, it is a sewer’s dream! Our wonderful shop is full of
textiles, notions, knitting yarn and giftware, which makes us your
one-stop sewing shop. We have displays of Brother and Elna sewing
and embroidery machines, and we offer servicing for all brands and
models. Why not join in on one of our daily classes or perhaps our
speciality Saturday monthly workshops in doll-making and machine
embroidery? We also have an in-store garment-alteration service to
help with those difficult jobs. Visit us Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm or Sat
from 9am-1pm. If you're planning to visit with a group of friends, group
bookings are welcome after hours by appointment only.
We recommend: We have three of the most popular and famous new

3. Tyabb Magic Patch Quilting
Where’s Tyabb: In the popular tourist region of the Mornington
Peninsula, Tyabb is approximately one hour south of Melbourne.
Where in Tyabb: 1525 Frankston-Flinders Road. We’re on the lefthand side of the main road of Tyabb when travelling from Melbourne;
we’re just a few doors up from the Post Office.
Who plays host: Carol Lewis
Worth visiting because: Whether it’s fabrics or a pattern for that
new project you’re itching to start, there’s something for everyone at
Magic Patch Quilting. The shop is full of reproduction, Oriental and
kids’ fabrics as well as an exclusive range of patterns, which include
everything from a weekend project to a masterpiece. Our friendly
staff will welcome you with a smile, and we’re more than willing
to help with any questions you might have. You can book into one
of our classes or workshops, where you can sew in a relaxed and
friendly environment with like-minded crafters.
What we recommend: We just love making quilts, which means our
shop is full of enticing samples and patterns to inspire you. Whether
you’re a beginner quilter, someone after your next challenge or just

4. Koo Wee Rup Craft Quarters
Where’s Koo Wee Rup: Nestled in asparagus country, around an hour
from Melbourne and en route to Phillip Island.
Where in Koo Wee Rup: Approaching from Melbourne, take the Princes
Freeway, and continue until you come to the Koo Wee Rup exit. Take the
exit, then, on the roundabout, take the third exit to Koo Wee Rup, then
continue down Koo Wee Rup Road, which will then become Station Street.
Once you approach town, turn left onto Rossiter Road, and you’ll find us on
the corner of Rossiter Road and Alexandra Avenue. Alternatively, you can
take the South Gippsland Highway east from Melbourne, which will reach
Rossiter Road from the south.
Who plays host: Estelle
Worth visiting because: We’re constantly changing and updating our
store display and adding new bolts of fabric to the already impressive
range. Estelle’s extensive patchwork, dressmaking and folk art
experience means the shop is in the right hands, and our customers
will always find help if they need it. We hear lovely feedback from
visitors about how wonderful our quilt displays are and how much
they love our huge range of fabrics. We also have all the extra bits
and pieces for your patchwork and quilting needs, including books,
patterns, batting and all sorts of notions. Feel free to join any of our
great classes; new and long term students are always welcome.
What we recommend: You just can’t go past our huge range of
fabrics, including batiks, old manor-house florals, Christmas prints,
flannels, black and whites, children’s and a great selection of precuts.

5. Rosedale Lily Lane
Where’s Rosedale: A pleasant two-hour drive east along Princes
Highway from Melbourne, or Princes Highway heading south from
Sydney, along the beautiful East Gippsland coastline, right in the
middle of town with big public carpark a few paces away.
Where in Rosedale: 26-28 Prince Street. You’ll find us in a stately
building known as London House, which was built in 1882 and is
right in the heart of our beautiful town of Rosedale. There are plenty
of classy eateries, antique shops and unique attractions nearby,
so there’s lots to do when you visit us.
Who plays host: Jennifer McMillan, with the help of Trish Russell
Worth visiting because: “Wow” is the first impression our customers
have. We have stacks of inspirational ideas for projects scattered
throughout the shop, with quilt samples adorning the high walls – some
of which are for sale. There are plenty of kits, patterns, fabric packs, precuts, wool, books and haberdashery. We also have plenty of patchwork
fabrics from top-name designers to suit most fabric tastes. We have
friendship sewing and specialist classes available, and we’re more than
happy to host large tour groups, but a prior booking will help us work
to your time frame. When you come and visit us, you’ll agree we have
the most beautiful front door in the street, and the store is wonderfully
warm in winter and cool in summer.
What we recommend: The ever-so-popular French General fabrics
are kept in stock and current, with bolts and pre-cuts to suit every
need. We also have plenty of shabby chic, children’s novelties,
Orientals, flannels and a big selection of extra wideback fabrics.
Cottage Garden hand-dyed threads are also available to meet your
stitching passion, and we are well stocked with a wide selection
of background fabrics and stabilisers to help perfect your piece.

6. Orbost Sonia Melville Craftbasket
Where’s Orbost: In the south-east of Victoria, just east of Lakes Entrance.
Where in Orbost: Travelling east on the Princes Highway from Lakes
Entrance, continue until you cross the Snowy River, then take the Orbost
exit off the Highway. Continue down Lochiel Street, until you come to the
end of the road and turn right down Nicholson Street and you’ll find us in
the main part of town, nestled behind a real estate agent.
Who plays host: Sonia Melville
Worth visiting because: Our large, well-lit store is a crafter’s haven
adorned with colourful quilts and wallhangings, with the delicious, yet
subtle scent of rose oil creating a relaxing shopping atmosphere. The
natural light from the windows and large skylights is especially helpful
when choosing fabric colours. We have a wide range of fabrics and
haberdashery available, with a variety of our fabrics available by the
metre or as quick and easy-to-grab fat quarters. We have patterns
and kits, some of which have been designed by Sonia herself. As an
teacher accredited by Victorian Quilters, Sonia is the perfect teacher
for our classes in patchwork, quilting and appliqué, which are run
when needed, from beginners to advanced crafters. Our Gammill
long-arm quilting machine also provides an important service to the
crafters in our local community.
We recommend: Our fabric gift packs are the perfect gift for
a patchwork enthusiast or to treat yourself. Each pack contains a
special colourway from a variety of fabric ranges as a selection of fat
eighths and fat quarters. They’re also a great way to build up your
fabric stash or to use with smaller projects.
