1. SCOPE
1.1
Scope. This manufacturing data covers the materials, design, construction, and
inspection requirements for Coveralls, Firefighters’, Flame Resistant, Aramid.
1.2
Intended use. This flame resistant coverall shall be used by Canadian Force firefighters
on domestic and international operations and training.
1.3
Classification. The coveralls covered by this Manufacturing Data shall be the following
types:

1. All material and colour requirements must be that stated in para 3.4 (Materials);
2. Seaming must be as per para 3.6.5.1 and 3.6.5.2.
3. There must be 1 x 2-inch (2.5 x 5 cm) loop fastener tape for the attachment of the
Canadian Flag. The loop must be stitched to the top of the left shoulder. See para
3.7.2.10.
4. There must be a 4-1/4inch (10.8 cm) triangular shaped piece of loop for the attachment
of the DND/Civilian Fire Officer insignia. The loop must be stitched to the top of the right
sleeve. See para 3.7.2.11.
2.7
Paper patterns. DND will provide paper patterns for all sizes under Style code
CFFNS30. Size 7040 (Reg/Med) will be issued for tendering purposes.
2.8
Order of precedence.
2.8.1 In the event of inconsistency between contract documents, such as contract, technical
data, and sealed patterns, the order of precedence shall be contract, technical data, and sealed
patterns.
2.8.2 In the event of a conflict between the text of this manufacturing data and the references
cited herein, the text of this manufacturing data must take precedence.
2.8.3 In the event of inconsistency within this manufacturing data, the Contracting Authority
must be contacted for clarification.
2.8.4 Nothing in this document supersedes applicable laws and regulations, unless a specific
exemption has been obtained.
3
REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Sealed pattern. A sealed pattern, when available, will be supplied to the successful
tenderer. The sealed pattern shall constitute the standard in regard to any properties not
defined in this manufacturing data.
3.2 Design. The design for the coveralls must be in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM
109-12 and must incorporate the following features:

3.2.1 The garment components must be shaped, dimensioned and positioned in accordance
with the Government supplied Paper Patterns, the applicable Figures, and the Scale of
Measurements (see Table I).
3.3
Preproduction samples. When specified in the contract, preproduction samples shall
be a requirement of this Manufacturing Data. Preproduction samples must be completely
representative of the final product, being made from parts and materials as specified and by
equipment and processes, which will be used in quantity production.
3.4
Materials
3.4.1 Shell material. The shell material must be twill weave, 50% aramid and 50% FR
viscose, 185 g/m2 in accordance with DSSPM 2-2-80-239 (Annex C). The colour used for Type
I Coveralls must be CADPATTM TW in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 259-01. The
colour used for Type II Coveralls must be CADPATTM AR in accordance Sealed Pattern DSSPM
253-02.
3.4.2 Buckles for waist suppression units. The buckles used for the waist suppression
units must be a commercially available Acetal, 1-inch ladder lock style. Each coverall requires
two buckles. ITW Nexus Part Ladderloc 104-0100 is used on the Sealed Pattern DSSPM 10912 and is known to meet this requirement. Equivalent products will be considered as long as
they are Acetal and have approximately the same overall dimensions. The colour used for Type
I Coverall must be black. The colour used for Type II Coverall must be Light Sand as shown on
Sealed Pattern DSSPM 253-02.
3.4.3 Slide fasteners. The slide fasteners must be flame resistant, two-way slide fasteners
with brass members and automatic locking sliders conforming to D-83-001-005/SF-001. All slide
fasteners must be flame resistant in accordance with para 5.1.2 of CAN/CGSB.155.1-2001.
The metal components must have a dull or antique finish. The tape must be flame resistant
fibre and must be woven using a twill weave. The colour of the tape for use on Type I Coveralls
must be Canadian Average Green in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 281-01. The
colour of the tape for use on Type II Coveralls must be Light Sand as shown on Sealed Pattern
DSSPM 253-02. Details for the various types and lengths are detailed in the Table II.

3.4.4 Elastic for waist suppression and action back. The elastic for waist suppression must
be viscose rayon and rubber, 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide and must comply with the requirements of
Table III. The elastic for the action back must be 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) wide and must comply

3.4.4.1 Preparation of test specimens for testing the resistance to fraying. The samples
to be tested must be mounted on a piece of shell material, with the ends turned under and
stitched with two (2) rows of stitching. The length of fabric not stitched to the fabric should be
approximately 4-5 inches (10.0-12.7 cm) long. The size of the mounting fabric should be
sufficient to hold the test specimen. A minimum of two test specimens must be tested from
each roll of elastic.
3.4.5 Webbing for waist suppression strap reinforcement. A webbing nylon, 25 mm (oneinch) must be used as an internal reinforcement for the waist suppression strap which secures
the ladderlock. The webbing must be textile, woven nylon, and conforming to MIL-W-17337,
Class 1 or 2. Narricot Industries, Pennsylvania, USA is known to meet this specification.
3.4.6 Buttons. The buttons must be nylon, conforming to specification CF-B-854, and
Drawing 373118. The colour used for Type I coveralls must be Canadian Average Green in
accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 281-01. The colour for Type II coveralls must be Light
Sand in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 263-02. One (1) button size 30-ligne shall be
required for each coverall. When specified, the button assemblies must be in accordance with
Drawing 8790166 for 30 ligne buttons.
3.4.7 Hook and loop fastener tape. The hook and loop fastener tape must conform to Type
II, Class 1 with a flame retardant finish in accordance with A-A-55126. The colour used for
Type I Coveralls must be Canadian Average Green in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM
281-01. The colour used for Type II Coveralls must be Light Sand as shown on Sealed Pattern
DSSPM 253-02. The lengths and widths are defined in Table V.

3.4.8
Thread
3.4.8.1 For seaming and stitching. The thread must be Thread, Aramid, Spun Staple, Tex 60,
in accordance with Type II of A-A-55217. The colour used for Type I Coveralls must be
Canadian Average Green in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 281-01. The colour used
for Type II Coveralls must be Light Sand as shown on Sealed Pattern DSSPM 253-02.
3.4.8.2 For serging. The thread must be Thread, Aramid, Spun Staple, Tex 40, in accordance
with Type I of A-A-55217. The colour used for Type I Coveralls must be Canadian Average
Green in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 281-01. The colour used for Type II
Coveralls must be Light Sand as shown on Sealed Pattern DSSPM 253-02.
3.4.8.3 Thread for sewing of hook and loop fastener tape. All hook and loop fastener tape
must be sewn with Thread, Aramid, Spun Staple thread, Tex 40, in accordance with Type II of
A-A-55217. The colour must match the components being sewn. See para 3.6.8 for detailed
sewing instructions regarding the hook and loop fastener tape.
3.4.8.4 Buttonhole gimp. The buttonhole gimp must be 100% cotton, 3-cord soft finish,
R50Tex conforming to 4-GP-80Ma. The colour used for Type I coverall must be Canadian
Average Green in accordance with Sealed Pattern 281-01 or black. For Type II coverall the
colour of the thread must be Light Sand in accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 263-02.
3.4.9 Marking label. A marking label in accordance with D-80-001-055/SF-001 and a care
label in accordance with CAN/CGSB-86.1-2003 must be located on the inside of the lower front,
stitched onto the right quarter pocket bag. Additional information shall be found in paragraph
3.10. The colour for the labels used in Type I Coveralls must be Canadian Average Green in
accordance with Sealed Pattern DSSPM 281-01. The colour for the labels used for Type II
Coveralls must be Light Sand as shown on Sealed Pattern DSSPM 253-02.

Cutting

3.5.1 Garments must be cut using Government supplied paper patterns. Patterns include seam
allowance but do not include make-up allowance. The contractor shall be responsible for any
changes which may be required for make-up allowance to suit production methods, but the
design, grade or requirements specified herein must not be changed.
NOTE: Paper patterns will not be supplied to contractors involved with special sizes, except
upon request. In these instances the contractor shall be responsible for adjusting the pattern
drawings to accommodate the measurements, stance and figure of the individual to be fitted.
3.5.2 The shell parts of each garment must be cut in the direction of the warp as shown on the
pattern drawings or the drawing.
3.5.3 The shell parts of each garment must be cut from the same piece of shell material with the
exception of the inner storage pocket, which may be cut from separate lays of ends of shell
material.
3.5.4 The specified materials must be cut and used in accordance with the best commercial
standards and practices.
3.6
Sewing
3.6.1 The inherent properties of some FR materials render them prone to fraying. Care must be
taken to ensure that all seam allowances be adhered to without compromise to the shape and
finished dimensions outlined in the scale of measurements.
3.6.2
All seams and stitching must be in accordance with CAN/CGSB-54.1-M.
3.6.3
Unless otherwise specified, seams must be a minimum of 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) wide.
3.6.4 All stitching must be either lock stitch Type 301 or chain stitch Type 401 conforming to
CAN/CGSB-54.1-M, having not less than 8 nor more than 10 stitches per inch (2.5 cm).
3.6.5 Where double lapped seams are specified, numerical designation 2.04.03 or 2.04.04 of
CAN/CGSB-54.1-M must be used. They may be lock or chain stitched with needles set ¼-inch
(6.4 mm) apart.
3.6.5.1 The following seams must be stitched, serged and double top stitched: Armhole seams,
seat and crotch seams, underarm and side seams.
3.6.5.2 The following seams shall be stitched, serged and double top stitched or double lapped:
Shoulder seams, sleeve seams, inseams.
3.6.6 The ends of lock stitched seams, stitchings and breaks in thread must be securely
backstitched.
3.6.7 Where seaming, turning and stitching is specified, the ends must be properly worked out
before stitching.
3.6.8 The tension of the needle and bobbin thread must be adjusted to ensure correctly formed
stitches.

3.6.9 Serging. All exposed raw edges, must be finished with any 500 series, with not less
than nor more than 10 stitches per inch (2.5 cm).
3.6.10 Where seaming and serging is specified, this may be done in one or two operations.
3.6.11 Buttonholes. Buttonholes must be gimp reinforced eyelet type, with not less than 22
stitches per inch (2.5 cm). The ends must be fishtailed or bartacked.
3.6.12 Button and strap assembly. When specified, the assemblies must be in accordance
with Drawing 8790166 for 30-ligne buttons. The button straps may be either seam type numerical
designation 8.06.02 or 8.19.01. The finished width must be 3/8-inch (9.5 mm). The straps must
be attached with bartacks.
3.6.13 Hook and loop fastener tape. Hook and loop fastener tape must be stitched around all
edges 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) gauge. Care must be taken to ensure stitching is formed into the hook
and loop portion of the tape.
3.6.13.1
When tapes wider than 1-inch (2.5 cm) are used, they must be stitched around all
edges and through the center or have a ‘X’ enclosed in the box.
3.6.13.2
For best results, a ball point needle, size 110 (#18) should be used.
3.6.14 Bartacks. Bartacks must be 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) long and must have not less than 15
cover stitches. As an alternative, an automatic backstitch having 15 to 20 stitches may be used.
3.7
Construction
3.7.1 Front darts. One dart extending from the waistline to the chest must be sewn in each
front. The darts must be turned towards the centre.
3.7.2 Breast pockets. A patch pocket made of shell material with a pencil pocket must be
positioned on each front.
3.7.2.1 The top edge of the pocket must be turned in, the raw edge folded under, and stitched
1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge to form a finished hem 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) deep.
3.7.2.2
Pencil pocket - A pencil pocket must be positioned on the front of each breast pocket.
3.7.2.2.1 The pencil pocket must be made of one piece of shell material. The top edge must
be turned under 3/4-inch (1.9 cm), the raw edge folded under 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) and topstitched
1/16-inch (1.5 mm) to form a finished hem 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) deep.
3.7.2.2.2 The front and bottom edges of the pencil pocket must line up with the front and
bottom edges of the pocket and the remaining side must be stitched to the pocket at 1/16-inch
(1.6 mm) gauge. Bartacks must be positioned at each top edge.
3.7.2.3 A piece of loop fastener must be centered on the face side of the pocket, 3/4-inch (1.9
cm) below the top edge and stitched around all edges 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge.

3.7.2.4 The side and bottom edges must be serged. The edges of the pocket must be turned
under, the pocket must be positioned on the front and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge along
the side and bottom edges. Bartacks must be placed on each top edge.
3.7.2.5
Breast pocket flap. The pocket flap must be made of two pieces of shell material.
3.7.2.5.1 The two plies shall be seamed together, turned and stitched 1/4-inch (6.4 mm)
gauge along the sides and bottom edges.
3.7.2.5.2 A piece of hook fastener must be centered on the underside of the flap, effecting
proper closure with the loop fastener tape.
3.7.2.5.3 The flap must be centered and positioned 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) above the patch pocket
and seamed to the front, turned down, and stitched 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) gauge along the top
edge. The unfinished edge of the flap must be fully covered.
3.7.2.5.4 A piece of loop fastener tape must be centered over the top of the right breast pocket
flap as shown on the paper patterns.
3.7.2.6 Back. The upper back must have a released pleat directly behind each armhole to
form an action back.
3.7.2.6.1 Expansion pleats. Each pleat must be folded and pressed toward the side seam on
the outside and stitched 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) gauge.
3.7.2.6.2 Each pleat must be anchored by a vertical row of stitching ending 4-inches above the
waistband and across its full width.
3.7.2.6.3 One piece of elastic measuring 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) wide and 4 inches (10.2 cm)
long must be positioned on each side of the inside back. One end of the elastic piece must be
seamed to the underside of the back pleat with a minimum of two rows of stitching. The other
end of elastic must be folded under 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) and stitched to the back with a triangle of
stitching.
3.7.2.7 Back waist pleats. There must be a pleat placed on each side of the centre back at
the waistline. Each pleat must be 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) deep, and folded toward the centre back.
3.7.2.8
Shoulder seams. The back and fronts must be sewn together along the shoulders.
3.7.2.9 Sleeves. The sleeves must be a two piece set-in type with a cuff with hook and loop
closure.
3.7.2.9.1 The edges of the sleeve openings must be turned in, the raw edges folded under,
and stitched to form a hem 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) wide. The upper and under pieces of each sleeve
must be seamed along the elbow seam above the sleeve opening.The top of each opening
must be securely backstitched or bartacked.
3.7.2.10 Hook and loop patch for Firefighters’ Badge. A triangular shaped piece of loop
fastener tape measuring 4-1/4 inch (10.8 cm) on all sides to accomodate the badge illustrated in
Figure II, must be centred on the right sleeve head at 1-inch (2.5 cm) below the shoulder seam.

3.7.2.11 Hook and loop for shoulder flag insignia. A piece of loop fastener measuring 1” x
2” (2.5 cm x 5.1 cm) to accommodate the insignia illustrated in Figure II, must be centred on
the left sleeve head at 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) below the shoulder seam.
3.7.2.12 Cuffs. The cuffs must be made of one piece of shell material.
3.7.2.12.1 Two pleats, each 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) deep, must be placed at the bottom of each
sleeve. One pleat must be placed in the under sleeve 1-1/8 inches (2.9 cm) from the underarm
seam. The second pleat must be placed in the upper sleeve 3-1/2 inches (8.9 cm) from the
underarm seam. Both pleats must be folded toward the point of the cuff.
3.7.2.12.2 The cuffs must be folded face to face and seamed along both ends. The cuffs
must be turned out.
3.7.2.12.3 With the top edge of the outer ply folded under, the cuffs must be stitched
1/16-inch (1.5 mm) and 1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge around the edges.

The finished cuffs must be 2-1/4 inches (5.7 cm) wide.
3.7.2.12.5 A piece of hook fastener tape must be centered on the inner ply of each cuff at
1/2-inch (12.7mm) behind the pointed end and stitched around all edges.
3.7.2.12.6 A piece of loop fastener tape must be centered on the outer ply of each cuff at
1/2-inch (12.7 mm) from the straight end and stitched around all edges.

Construction - lower body
3.7.3.1

Quarter cut pocket. A quarter cut pocket must be positioned on the side of each

One bartack must be positioned at the top and bottom of each pocket opening.
3.7.3.3 Back. The back must have a dart at the waist and a reinforcement panel with a pocket
and flap closure on each side.

3.7.3.3.1 Back darts. One dart must be sewn in each lower back piece. The darts must be
stitched, folded towards the centre back seam and topstitched at 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge.
3.7.3.3.2 Back hip pocket and reinforcement. The back must have a reinforcement panel of
shell material with a back hip pocket incorporated into the panel. The top join of the
reinforcement must have a 6-inch (15.2 cm) opening for the pocket. A piece of loop fastener
tape must be positioned on the pocket opening as indicated on the paper pattern. The panel
must be attached by a double row of stitching at 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) gauge on the top joining
seam and ¼-inch (6.4 mm) on the bottom joining seam. The pocket pouch must be formed by a
double row of stitching at 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) gauge, as indicated on the paper pattern. The
sides of the reinforcement piece must be serged to the trouser piece.
3.7.3.3.3 Back Pocket flap. The flap must be constructed of two plies of shell material
stitched, turned and top stitched at ¼-inch (6.4 mm) gauge. The flap must be positioned as per
the paper pattern, seamed, turned down and stitched at ¼-inch (6.4 mm) gauge along the top
edge. The unfinished edge of the flap must be fully covered. There must be one piece of hook
fastener tape positioned on the flap to ensure proper closure of the flap.
3.7.3.4 Seat seam. The centre back of the pant must be seamed, serged and double
topstitched.
3.7.3.5 Joining front to back. The upper front and back must be seamed along the side
seams and underarms in one continuous operation. The bottom front and back must be seamed
along the side seams.
3.7.3.6 Thigh patch pockets. Patch pockets made from shell fabric must be positioned on
each thigh as shown on the paper patterns. Each patch pocket must have an inner bellows
type patch pocket to store flashlights and assorted tools.
3.7.3.7 Inner storage pockets. The top edge of the pocket must be turned in, the raw edge
folded under, and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge to form a finished hem of 3/4-inch (1.9 cm)
wide.
3.7.3.7.1 The edges of the pocket must be serged and turned under. The pocket must be
positioned on each thigh as per paper pattern, and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge along the
sides and bottom edges. In order to create two pockets, stitching must be placed 2-inches (5.0
cm) from the edge as indicated on the paper pattern.
3.7.3.7.2 A tuck measuring 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) deep must be folded in both lower edges of the
larger pocket at 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) from the edge. A tuck 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) deep must be folded
in both lower edges of the smaller pocket at 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) from the edge. A row of stitches
must be placed 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) from the bottom edge to hold the tucks.
3.7.3.8 Outer thigh patch pocket. The top edge of the pockets must be turned in, the raw
edge folded under, and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge to form a finished hem 1-1/2-inches
(3.8 cm) wide.
3.7.3.8.1 Two lengths of loop fastener tape must be positioned on the face side of the pockets
1/2-inch (1.3 cm) from the finished side edge and 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) below the finished hem and
stitched around all edges. The edges of the pockets must be serged and turned under. A

pocket must be positioned on each thigh as per paper pattern, and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm)
gauge along the sides and bottom edges.
3.7.3.8.2 Vertical bar tacks must be positioned at the top corners of each pocket.
3.7.3.9 Thigh pocket flaps. Pocket flaps must be made of two pieces of shell material,
seamed together, turned and stitched 1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge along the sides and bottom
edges.
3.7.3.9.1 Two lengths of hook fastener tape must be positioned on the underside of the flaps,
effecting proper closure with the loop fastener tape, and stitched around all edges.
3.7.3.9.2 A flap must be centered and positioned 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) above each pocket and
seamed to the front, turned down and stitched 1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge along the top edges.
The unfinished edge of the flap must be fully covered.
3.7.3.9.3 Horizontal bartacks must be positioned at the top corners of the pocket.
3.7.3.10 Joining bottom and tops. With the wrong sides together, the top and bottom of
coverall must be seamed and serged along the waistline. The seam must be pressed towards
the bottom.
3.7.3.11 Waist channel. The waist channel must be placed face up on the outside of the
garment and centered over the waistline seam. The top and bottom edges of the piece must be
turned under and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge to form a waistband 1-3/4 inches (4.4 cm)
wide.
3.7.3.12 Back waist suppression. The back waist suppression must consist of an elastic
braid encased in the waist channel. The length of elastic must be so that it meets the
requirements of the dimensions on the Scale of Measurements.
3.7.3.12.1 The elastic must be threaded through the channel and secured by the stitches
made with the attachment of the waist suppression strap assembly.
3.7.3.13 Waist suppression assembly. The waist suppression unit must extend from each
side seam toward the back and must be centered on the waist channel. Each suppression unit
must consist of a ladder lock and two straps of shell material.
3.7.3.13.1 Straps must be made from one piece of shell material, folded on the end with
edges folded under and stitched 1/16-inch (1.6 mm) gauge to form a band 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide.
The strap with the ladder lock must have a piece of webbing encased the full length of the
strap. Each waist suppression assembly requires two straps.
3.7.3.13.2 The strap with the encased webbing must be threaded through the ladder lock,
folded at 1-inch (2.5 cm) and secured by a row of stitching, ¼-inch gauge from the ladder lock
edge. The remaining end of the strap must be sewn to the waist channel at the side seam
facing the back, folded and stitched at ¼-inch (6.4 mm) and 1-inch (2.5 cm) gauge. The strap
end with the ladder lock must be secured to the waist channel with two rows of stitching at ¼inch gauge, sewn through all plies, as indicated on the paper pattern. The ends of the back
waist suppression elastic will be secured by this stitching.

3.7.3.13.3 The second strap must have the finished end turned at ¼-inch (6.4 mm) and
stitched at 1/16-inch (1.6 mm) to form a security flap. The strap must be positioned on the back
channel, as indicated on the paper pattern, facing the side of the garment and seamed, turned
over and stitched at ¼-inch (6.4 mm) gauge through all plies.
3.7.3.13.4
The open end of the strap must be threaded through the ladder lock.
3.7.3.14 Front closure. The front closure must consist of a slide fastener, a fly curtain and a
placket. The front edges of the front pieces must be serged and turned under.
3.7.3.14.1 Slide fastener curtain. The curtain must be made of one piece of shell material.
With right sides folded together, the top end must be seamed and turned. The fold and top
edge must be stitched ¼-inch (6.4 mm) gauge. The remaining edges must be serged together.
With the top edges flush with the neck seam, the slide fastener must be sandwiched between
the curtain and right centre front edge. The front edge must be stitched through all plies
1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge from the neck edge to the crotch.
3.7.3.14.2 Slide fastener placket. The placket must be made of one piece of shell material.
A rank strap must be positioned over the placket as indicated by the paper patterns.
3.7.3.14.2.1 With right sides folded together, the top and bottom ends must be seamed and
turned. The top and bottom end and fold edge must be stitched 1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge. The
raw edges must be serged together. With the top edges flush with the neck seam, the placket
must be sandwiched between the slide fastener and the left centre front edge and stitched
1/4-inch (6.3 mm) gauge from the neck edge to the crotch. The bottom edge of the placket
must be securely stitched through to the curtain 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge. A bar tack must be
positioned at the bottom of the placket.
3.7.3.15 Rank tab. The tab facing must be seamed along straight edge and pointed end,
turned inside out and pointed end stitched 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) gauge.
3.7.3.15.1 A buttonhole to accommodate a 30-ligne button must be centred 3/4-inch (19.1
mm) behind pointed end.
3.7.3.15.2 The tab facing must be placed on the under piece of the rank tab, 1-inch (2.5 cm)
behind raw pointed end and stitched along the straight end 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) gauge.
3.7.3.15.3 With right sides together, the rank tab must be seamed along the sides and
pointed end, turned inside out and stitched 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) gauge. The sides of the tab
facing must be caught in this seam.
3.7.3.15.4 The rank tab must be positioned to the left front fly cover, as per paper pattern.
There must be a row of stitching, secured at each end by backstitching, on each side of the
slide fastener. The tab must be turned up and stitched 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) gauge on both sides
of the slide fastener, to enclose the raw edge, as per the sealed sample.
3.7.3.15.4.1 A 30-ligne button and loop assembly must be positioned as per paper pattern
and sewn to ensure proper closure with the buttoning tab, ensuring that tab lies flat when
closed.

3.7.3.16 Bottom leg portion. Each bottom leg portion must have leg suppression system
consisting of a slide fastener and a gusset. The slide fastener will be covered.
3.7.3.16.1 Leg gusset. Each leg gusset must be made of one layer of shell material. The leg
gusset piece must be serged and sewn at 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) gauge to the bottom leg portion.
3.7.3.16.2 The raw edge of the lower leg portion must be serged and folded 1/4-inch (6.4
mm). The slide fastener tape must be sewn to the left and right edges of the lower leg at 1/4inch (6.4 mm) gauge. The slide fastener must be inverted so that the opening is at the hem.
3.7.3.16.3 The bottom edge of the lower leg and leg gusset must be turned in, the raw edge
folded under, and stitched 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) gauge to form a finished hem 1-1/2-inches (3.8
cm) wide.
3.7.3.17 Joining inseams. The legs must be joined along the inseams using double lapped
seams with the lap towards the back. The bottom of the placket must be included in this seam.
3.7.3.18 Collar. The collar must be made of three pieces of shell material.
3.7.3.18.1 Two pieces must be stitched together diagonally across the width of the collar.
These two pieces shall form the under collar.
3.7.3.18.2 The upper and under collars must be stitched together along the ends and fall
edge, turned and properly worked out at the corners.

3.10 Care and marking label. A care and marking label must be located on the inside of the
lower front, stitched around all sides to the right quarter pocket bag. An example is shown at
Figure VI. The marking must be printed in black and must give the following information printed
in characters not less than 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) nor more than 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) in height, with the
exception of the size identification which shall be twice the height:
a. Abbreviate nomenclature: Coveralls, Firefighter, FR / Combinaisons de pompiers

b. NATO Stock Number (NSN/NNO) for that specific size (numbers will be designated
in the contract);

6.2.1 Design authority. The Design Authority is the Government agency responsible for the
technical aspects of the design and changes to the design. The Design Authority is the Director,
Soldier Systems Program Management (DSSPM).
6.2.2 Master sealed pattern. A master sealed pattern is the authorized prototype of the item
to be produced, and is held only by the Government.
6.2.3 Sealed pattern. A sealed pattern is an exact duplicate of the master sealed pattern and
is available to the manufacturer to be used as guide in production.
6.3 DND green procurement. The production of a product to this manufacturing data, or the
evaluation of a product to this manufacturing data, may require the use of materials and/or
