William “Bill” McDeavitt left this world on May 19, 2015 and his passing leaves a large hole in our hearts. He was the Director of Safety, Life Safety, Emergency Management and Hazardous Materials and Waste for Florida Hospital. He was also an Executive Director on the Central Florida Disaster Medical Coalition, Inc. Bill McDeavitt began his career as a firefighter/lieutenant/paramedic and Hazardous Materials and Incident Command Specialist in Pennsylvania and then Florida. He also served as an instructor for Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Cardiac Life Support students, Pediatric Advanced Life Support students, and Extrication, Technical, Rope, and Confined Space Rescue students. In 1995 he transitioned to a role of Critical Care Transport Supervisor for a large hospital system in Central Florida. In 2002, he became the hospital system’s Emergency Management Coordinator, and later the Director of Safety, Life Safety, Emergency Management, and Hazardous Materials and Waste for the Florida Hospital system with eight hospitals and approximately 18,000 employees. Bill served as a Region 5 Health and Medical CoChair for 10 years and chaired several state working group committees.
