SCIENCE DAY
Dear Families,
Science and Health Day is scheduled for Friday, April 24. Our campus will once again be filled with animals, science
experiments, guest speakers, workshops and activities which will highlight a variety of science and health awareness
topics. All students will partake in a fun-filled, educational, and hands-on day of exploring and celebrating science and
wellness.
Parents will share their science-related professions and
faculty will share their science passion with our students.
Local organizations will also be on campus to present.
If you are interested in presenting an activity please
contact Danny Meyer. There will also be opportunities
for parents to help faculty with set-up, crowd control and
clean-up. Please contact Mr. Meyer if you would like to
spend part or all of the day on campus, helping in some
way.
We will hold our major one-day battery recycling drive
(AA, AAA, D, C, 9v)
Please search your closets and basements for outgrown
and no longer needed sneakers/tennis shoes—we will be also be collecting these for our annual Foot Gear Recycling
Program.
END OF THE YEAR TESTING & ASSESSMENT CALENDAR
We will be administering our annual SAT-10 Testing from March 23rd- April 3rd.
We give a two week window so that the faculty has flexibility in scheduling depending on student needs. Student
attendance is critical during this time. We want to make sure that the tests are sent to be scored in plenty of time so
the results can be shared with you at your end of the year parent/teacher conference. If a student is absent, teachers
will do their best to administer but may not be able to due to the deadline requirement.
 Tests will be administered between 8:30-11:45 everyday. Specialty classes (Art, PE, Music) will remain during
their regularly scheduled time.
 Student attendance is critical at this time. Please make sure your child arrives on time to school and has a healthy
breakfast.
 Please make sure your child has a good night's sleep and that their schedules are as normal as possible.
 If your child will be absent, please let us know as far ahead of time as possible. We will do our best to administer
what has been missed but can not guarantee that we will be able to make up missed sections due to deadline
requirements.
Parents are welcome to bring healthy snacks in during testing week. We try very hard to emphasize stress management techniques and do our best to support the children in feeling relaxed and confident during this time. We spend
a lot of time talking with them about just focusing on doing their best and staying positive. Having healthy snacks in
the morning can be a great way to create this atmosphere.

Hello Charles Armstrong families! The counseling team wants to remind everyone to quiet the mind and be mindful
of the body during times of stress. During unwind week the mindfulness team taught students three breaths they can
use throughout the day.

Inhale silently through your nose
•
Exhale silently through your nose
Releasing Breath:
•
Inhale silently through your nose
•
Exhale with a soft sigh out your mouth
Lion’s Breath:
•
Inhale silently through your nose
•
Bug your eyes and stick your tongue out, and make noise as you exhale everything out

TECHNOLOGY
The cougars have had an exciting week playing
games and working hard. The boys played a thrilling
game on Tuesday with amazing offense, winning
9-2. The girls had an equally exciting game, fighting
until the bitter end and playing with all their heart
and working together.
After our recent presentation from Officer Jordan
concerning the challenge of raising
middle schoolers in the digital age, we have
received emails with other resources we want to
continue to share. These are being added to out WH
page on the topic. Here is one such
resource submitted by a parent.

Foodie Fact - Pineapple
by Judith Levine, MS, RD
Pineapple is one of our most favorite tropical fruits. It is juicy and
simultaneously sweet and tart. Better still, pineapple is available all year long. Bring
home a fresh pineapple to cut up yourself, or if pressed for time, buy it already cut
up. Pineapple maintains its nutrition fresh, frozen, canned or juiced.
1 Cup of Pineapple Has:
Calories - 80 (only)
Vitamin C - 80 mg (more than an orange)
Fiber - 2.4 grams
Potassium - 180 mg
Manganese - 1.5 mg (75% DV)
Ideas:
Add pineapple to juices, smoothies, yogurt and fruit salads
Chop into fresh salsas for a different flavor
Cut into cubes for grilled chicken or shrimp kabobs, or grill as a side dish
Include in Asian stir-fry's, or pasta salads
Add to lunches in bite-size pieces
Sincerely,
SchoolFoodies
