Did you know that there could be up to a two week delay between the time you set up your e-giving and it
is recorded by the financial Secretary? When you indicate a contribution to the church through your
banking bill-pay, a physical check is written by your financial instruction and mailed to the church. When
the mail is received your check is then included with that week’s Sunday offering and is deposited into the
church’s account and recorded by the financial secretary.

SNOW EMERGENCY INFORMATION
At the December 16, 2013 meeting the congregational council discussed
procedures to follow in the event of snow. What was decided is as follows:
If we have a major snowstorm on Saturday going into Saturday night and
the roads are impassable, church services will be cancelled for Sunday
morning. This message will be on the church website as well as the
church answering machine.
In the event of a lesser amount of snow, the decision to have Sunday
morning services will be made after the president of the congregation calls our Supply Pastor and Konstantza. This
may result in having one service later in the morning after the walkways and parking lot have been cleared. Again,
the information will be on the church website and the answering machine.
The major concern is the safety of everyone including our Supply ministers who are coming from throughout the
metropolitan area and Konstantza coming from Queens. Another consideration is how quickly the parking lot can
be plowed and the walkways shoveled. We are very fortunate to have John Newhoff plow our parking lot, but we
need to remember he volunteers his time to do this for us. The time spent plowing our parking lot takes him away
from his paid plowing jobs. It is also much easier for him to plow when there are no cars in the parking lot and the
snow has not been driven on. Also, the shoveling is done by volunteers who first have to shovel their own driveways.
If there are any questions, please speak to a member of Council. Hopefully, this will not be an issue for us this winter.
LENTEN FOLDERS
Lent is a time for selfreflection and a time to focus
more on self-discipline. Christ
was tempted by the devil and
constantly questioned by believers and those with doubts. The
Lenten Offering Folder is enclosed for your use as a reminder
of the sacrifices made by God’s
only Son. Please use as part of
your faithful journey through
Lent and return it with your
Easter Offerings.

DEACON’S CORNER — MARCH 2015
Yesterday, Kevin and I went out to one of our favorite wineries on Long Island’s East End.
We have been there many times before but always in the spring, summer or fall. This was our
first trip out there in the winter. I was struck by how different the landscape looked. There
did not appear to be any signs of life, just dead branches poking out of the snow. A stark contrast to green vines with grapes growing abundantly!
Whenever I am at a vineyard, I can’t help but think of all the many times a vineyard is mentioned in the Bible. Many of the parables told by Jesus had references to vineyards. Looking out at the
desolate scenery yesterday, I thought to myself that it could be symbolic of the basic message of Christianity. The “death” of these vines in the winter leads to a rebirth in the spring. If we didn’t know better,
we could think that the winter is the end for those vines. If we, as Christians, didn’t know better, we
could think that death is the end for us too. But, because of the death and resurrection of Jesus, we know
about God’s promise of eternal life.
The transition period for our congregation that began when Pastor Munz retired has been a difficult time.
We had our own “winter in the vineyard”. At times, it may have seemed that there was no end in sight.
But we are coming out of winter (literally and figuratively). Spring is right around the corner and with it,
our new pastor. A new chapter in the 100 year history of our congregation!
Pastor Kreemer’s first Sunday will be on March 22 and he will be installed as our new pastor on April 11.
Its time for all members to join with our new pastor and continue our work in the vineyard! The work
that, for this congregation, started 100 years ago!
In Christ, Janet

WORSHIP AND MUSIC—MARCH. 2015
Pastor Marc Herbst will be our supply minister for March 8 and 15. Pastor Herbst is
also our Coverage Pastor for this time period. Pastor Mark Kreemer’s first Worship Service will be on March 22!
Our Mid-Week Lenten Services will continue on Wednesdays in Lent at 7:00. We will
be using a service based on the hymn “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”(ELW 338). These
Services will explore what it means for us to abide at the foot of the cross, to cling to the
rock of our salvation, to dwell in the house of the Lord and to confess our sins and receive God’s forgiveness. We will also be using a short video presentation on Prayer.
The following questions will be addressed – “What is Prayer”, “Why do we Pray”, How
do we Pray”, “When do we Pray” and “Does God answer Prayer”.
Looking further into the future, the choir will, once again, present a Cantata on Palm
Sunday at both the 8:45 and 10:45 Services.

Reflections on Your Church Seat by Judy Gauthier
If you have a ‘reserved’ seat at church and can always be found there (which is good in
case of an emergency) you will no doubt become BF’s* with the other weekly ‘reservees’ -you are
in good company- Sunday after Sunday.
For those of us in the choir -and yes, we do have the same seats every week- finding
someone in the congregation is easy and if asked, we can say “Oh, she/he is 6th row center.”
If you are not there - Are you sick? Away? On coffee hour duty? If you were to show up
in another seat -say, up closer than usual- maybe your batteries were dead?
In our pre-air conditioning days, in summer some migration would be noted - the ‘follow
the fans’ change of seating! But, here we are after 100 years of hot sitting - heading for a second
year of a cooler sanctuary!
And, Lawdy me, if you showed up on the other side, for whatever reason, this could cause
utter confusion and distraction!
Now, before this ruffles any ‘established seaters’ feathers, we are only pulling your collective legs - we love you just where you sit. This is going somewhere, actually to the windows on
the aisles you sit near each Sunday. How many BFs from the past do you sit by week after week?
Our window dedications are a big part of our 100 year heritage! They are the people who
lived before and at our beginnings and for many of our formative years. They have been honored
and immortalized- while our beautiful stained glass windows depict detailed Biblical history, their
dedications tell our familial history.
If you never have, check the names and dates - find out the who’s who and who was in
our congregation. Make some new ‘friends’ - your Sunday seatmate may be related to a window
honoree, maybe with a different name but a lot of history and heritage with someone you sit near
or have coffee with each Sunday.
What’s that you say? “What if I do go to sit on the other side -or boldly go up to the front
pews where no one has gone before- and I take someone’s ‘reserved’ seat?” Just tell them about
the wonderful seat you left for them on the other side! LOL** (please)
