Three Dishcloths These three dishcloths have lots of texture for scrubbing dishes and, if your tension is exact, you just might get all three from one solid-coloured ball of Sugar ’n Cream cotton. Skills Used: cast on, knit, purl and cast off Size: 6.5 by 6.5 inches Materials & Equipment: • yarn: one ball Sugar ’n Cream Cotton (22 grams per dishcloth) • needles: 4.00 mm • darning needle Tension for all three dishcloths: Approximately 18 sts and 30 rows over 4 inches in pattern. “To save time, take time to check tension” Abbreviations: k knit ppurl RS right side st(s)stitch(es) WS wrong side * * repeat instructions between asterisks Waffle Pattern: • Cast on 30 sts. (Long tail cast on was used.) • Row 1 (RS): *K2, p2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, end with k2 • Row 2 (WS): *P2, k2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, end with p2. • Row 3: Knit across row. • Row 4: Purl across row. • Repeat Rows 1 to 4 until dishcloth is square (10 repeats or 40 rows). • Work Rows 1 and 2 one more time. • Cast off in purl on RS. • Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch length. Weave in ends. Ridge & Rib Pattern: • Cast on 31 sts. (Long tail cast on was used.) • Row 1 (WS): Knit across row. • Row 2 (RS): P1, *k1, p1; repeat from * to end of row. • Row 3: K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to end of row. • Row 4: Knit across row. • Repeat Rows 1 to 4 until dishcloth is square (12 repeats or 48 rows). • End by working another Row 1. • Cast off in pattern on RS. (ie: knit the knits and purl the purls) • Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch length. Weave in ends. Garter Basketweave: • Cast on 31 sts. (Long tail cast on was used.) • Row 1(RS) and all odd numbered rows: Knit. • Row 2: *K3, p1; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3. • Row 4: *K3, p1; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3. • Row 6: K1, *p1, k3; repeat from * to last 2sts, * p1, k1. • Row 8: K1, *p1, k3; repeat from * to last 2 sts, * p1, k1. • Repeat Rows 1 to 8 six more times.
