inspiring each to act justly, love tenderly and walk
humbly in the love of God. Palm Sunday
PARISH STAFF
From Fr. Burns
Dear Parishioners:
Last Sunday’s gospel began with some Greeks approaching Phillip and
asking, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus." After Phillip went to Andrew,
they both went to Jesus and reported the question. Notice the way Jesus
answered the question, certainly not by giving them an appointment. He
said, "the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen,
I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” The
gospel continues with a vision of how all of this would happen. What a
wonderful way to begin Holy Week, the most important week in the
Church’s prayer life.
Jesus is telling us that if we want to see Him, we must be willing to walk
with Him during His most important hours. We can do this best by being
present for as many of the Holy Week services as we can, beginning with
Palm Sunday, when processions are held at St. Aloysius at two masses,
9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., by walking down the Crepe Myrtle Alley into
the church carrying blessed palms; by listening to the reading of the Passion at all Palm Sunday masses; by being present for Holy Thursday
mass at 7:00 p.m.; by attending Way of the Cross on Good Friday at
12:00 Noon and/or the Good Friday Service at 3:00 p.m.; and by being
present for the Easter Vigil Mass at 8:00 p.m. Saturday or one of the
Easter Sunday masses. (Note: There will be no 5:30 p.m. mass on Easter
Sunday.) Now, I realize that not everyone can attend all of these services,
but Jesus is telling us to experience His path to Calvary as best as we
can.
The Chrism Mass for our Diocese will be celebrated at St. Joseph Cathedral on Wednesday, April 1, at 10:30 a.m. At this special Mass, the
priests, deacons and representatives of the entire diocesan community
gather with Bishop Muench as he blesses the Holy Oils for use in the
coming year.
Reconciliation will be offered on Wednesday, April 1 from 6:00 p.m. -7:30
p.m. Please note, reconciliation will not be offered on Holy Saturday,
April 4.
So if you really want to see Jesus, come and learn how He was willing to
die for us. By doing this you may become more intent on handing your
life over to those you love and serve.
Yours in Christ,
