Runway Magazine is a selective celebration

celebrities, each bringing an influential slice of
PRADA
Trending this season is a designer’s love to tie in
oceanic inspiration to this season’s collections,
and JustCavalli is no exception; except this line
isn’t about simplistic beauty in mermaids, and
crystal blue waters on the shore. With Cavalli’s
line we get to dive a little deeper to see the exotic
creatures of the sea that Cavalli counts as one
of his inspirations for the pieces in his line. The
beautiful bright hues of sapphire and lime can
be seen in a sheer off-the-shoulder top and minidress. The models’ hairstyles reflect a refreshing,
clean, beach wave feel, and their natural makeup feels sun kissed with shimmer around their
eyes. In addition to the tropical fish, Cavalli
listed a trip to India as inspiration. He wanted
to capture the beauty in the exotic flora, which
gives us the colorful, rich drop-waist dresses and
multi-hued foot wear. Keeping to his love of the
hip-hop style, his lines are not constricting and
play well with the models movement.
Miuccia Prada definitely brought
something unexpected to the catwalk
this season. The show started with boxy,
almost space age designs, with largely
oversized tops in black and deep green,
paired with clam diggers, long shorts and
metallic booties. As the show transpired,
it began to tell a story, showing vintage
Japanese silhouettes, Geisha inspired
looks, and a more traditional color palette
as it progressed. Kimonos and Japanese
footwear appeared accentuated by florals
and pops of deep red. The show ended
with toned-down neutral satin pieces
in blush pink, tying the show’s theme
together nicely, proving once again
that Prada knows how to tell a story
through fashion.

SPOTLIGHT
The cover girl is interviewed and their personal
lives and fashions are exposed.
With an undeniable gift for acting, singing and style paired with her natural, stunning
beauty, this debutante queen of Georgia grew to become royalty of high fashion and
entertainment. Kim Porter now part model, part mom, part mega-star is the epitome
of a woman who can do it all, and do it perfectly. This woman has a ferocious ability to
not only take on the entertainment industry but completely re-define it, operating by
a higher calling. Inspired by the things she loves most in this world, her children and
her family, Kim has successfully set new standards by infusing her passion to keep it
real into every single little thing she puts her finger on giving it the golden touch. With
a new children's clothing line coming out soon, running her own business and a home
with music mogul Sean Diddy Combs, I'm surprised she even had time to sit down
with me, to say the least even sit down at all because she she's too busy making magic
and blazing trails for moms everywhere.
RUNWAY: Kim you have had an extremely illustrious
modeling career. Give us the goods, what do you do to
prepare for a big shoot or red carpet event?
KIM: A lot of people don't realize all of the
health and beauty benefits of steam , rest (seems
so simple, right) , lots of Aqua-hydration and a
great facial before it all happens...a good Hike
doesn't hurt either!
Where have been some of the most exotic shoot
locations you've worked? I saw that you recently
vacationed in St. Barth's with the fam, are you an
avid traveler?
Oh yes! Brazil, Spain but I must say I love Paris!!
How do you stay on top of all the current fashion
trends? You always have killer style and a fresh look
- to look half as good as you I'd have to have a whole
team of people to coordinate that! How do you do it?
I love fashion. I always have since childhood;
it's in my bones. I love European Magazines for
inspiration and Street Chic style.
What are your thoughts on accessorizing - can it
make or break an outfit? What are some of your
must-haves this season?
Accessories are a MUST ALWAYS!!!! I wear
accessories everyday! In my closet I have 3 huge
trees full of them. Some of my best finds are
vintage.
Must haves:
Vintage Chanel Cuff
Turquoise studded Louboutin ankle booties
Yellow Hermes Kelly Bag
64
You were doing some film and television work with
roles in "Wicked Wicked Games," "The System
Within" and appearing on "Single Ladies on VH1"
and "Mamma I Wanna Sing" Do you plan to make a
return to the screen any time soon?
Kim is generous in
imparting a slice of her
wisdom and sharing
some of her best tips
with us on how to rock
the runway while being a
mother of four with famed
counterpart Combs, how
to understand the power
of the brand and the vision
but to never lose sight of
what is really important at
the end of the day. I can
tell you one thing, after
seeing thousands of faces,
flashing lights, traveling
to exotic places and fitting
after fitting with designers
and meeting after meeting
to keep her business
thriving, this mommy's
favorite sight to see at the
end of each and every
day are the faces of her
smiling children.

I do love acting and the entire creative process
that goes into it. I also love writing and have 2
projects I'm writing and working on now.
You are a mother of 4 but still look fit and fab! Spill it,
what is your secret to being not just one of the sexiest
moms, but one of the sexiest women period?
I have to admit, I'm blessed. Don't hate me, but
I'm a part of the "eat anything and won't gain
a pound group." I don't have to spend a lot of
time at the gym - I'm a natural. (giggles) I do eat
healthy, don't snack and have very little bread.

What is it like being a mom and being in the spotlight?
It seems like family comes first to you but I imagine it
can be hard to balance that.
Family is #1. Period. I raise my children with a
sense of normalcy, NOT entitlement.
Being in the spotlight has it ups and downs as does
everything in life. Sometimes the lines get crossed
because people actually think they know you!

Runway: Did you ever feel like the Harry
Potter hype was overwhelming? I mean,
there’s Harry Potter wiki’s, numerous fan
sites, lunchboxes... everything.
boots: Donna Karan
EL: Yeah. Because I came from being a fan,
I was aware of all this stuff. I had to kind of
tell myself to not read the websites as much,
and to not click on these forums and such.
Because that was just like my hobby, that’s
what I would do in the evenings, but I had
to kind of take a step back from it. I think
it gets overwhelming, like when you go to
the premieres and there’s people shouting
your name and you’re kind of like, “why?” But
you just have to detach from and see it as
like, it’s not you. Well, it’s you they’re excited
about, but not really, it’s more what you’re
representing. And that’s a nice way to think
about it, because if you think it’s about you,
then there’s a lot of pressure and you usually
feel inadequate.
But really, it was all just a lot of fun. And,
because we had such a great cast that really
supported each other, it never felt too much
like work. You could talk about anything with
anyone.
Runway: Did you film at a real castle?
EL: No, the castle was never built. We filmed
the whole thing on a set in Leavesden
Studios, which is just outside of London.
They’ve now converted it into a tour where
you can go and visit the actual sets, but no,
there was never castle. It’s amazing. If you
do go and see the tour, they have the model
done to scale. It’s tiny but it’s all there, it’s all
complete. They would a camera to kind of
zoom around that. The detail on that was…
it looked like a real castle. Just, like, tiny. They
just built parts of the set. Then they went to
Scotland, I think, and did a lot of sweeping
shots there, but we weren’t there for that. So,
no, you have to use your imagination a lot.
Runway: How did you prepare for scenes
where you’re interacting with invisible or
imaginary characters, like the thestrals?
EL: Well, I spend a lot of time in the art
department, actually, because I find the art
department just so interesting. The thestrals
went through a lot of different stages of
development. They kind of brought us
around and showed us what they would
look like, and they had a model there the
size that the thestral would be. The artists
spoke us through how they would move and
everything. The rest was imagination.

Hair, for as long as we women
have had it, has been our best
accessory and, at times, our
worst foe. It is constantly changing. I am not just talking about
yours (and mine for that matter)
on a daily basis. I am referring
to the styles, the colors, and
the popular lengths through
time. Going back over fifty
years, we can see how quickly trends change. Back in the
fifties and sixties, we saw the
dramatic beehive make a big
statement, as well as feminine
flips. Progressing into the seventies and eighties, we had Farrah debut her classic Charlie’s
Angel blowout style that was
ever popular for almost two decades. The motto also seemed
to be “the bigger the better”,
where stock in Aqua Net and
crimping irons surely soared.
The nineties brought us edgier
cuts and females were seen using more hair product to piece
out shorter styles, moving into
more modern looks. Always
looking ahead to the future, as
we do in fashion, we work to
try to improve upon all facets of
what hair can be. Working with
texture, thinking outside the proverbial color box, and bringing
it all together to make it shine.
Here you will find some tips to
do just that as
you get a glimpse
into what spring
2013 will bring
us in the way of
hot styles according to Runway
and some of the
hottest names in
fashion.
The Look That’s
Making Waves
Tools Needed: Hair dryer with diffuser,
a surf spray, pick comb, hair wand,
finishing crème
To obtain the perfect beach wave
you can do one of two things: ride
the waves on a board, soaking up
the sun and salty sea air (that would
definitely achieve said look), or if you
are like me and reside in the desert
or other non-beachfront locale, you
can follow these simple steps to look
as though you had been hanging ten
all afternoon. After your shower, use
a pick comb to smooth out hair. (Do
not dry with towel!) Pat it dry and let
it naturally fall where it may, this will help it not to frizz. When it is slightly still damp,
apply a surf spray (Bumble and Bumble has a nice one) and work it through your hair,
scrunching it with your hands. Using your hairdryer’s diffuser, dry it almost completely
and use a heated hair wand to lightly wrap selected pieces around the wand. While
piecing it out, lightly curl sections until your desired
look is achieved. Finish with a light finishing crème to
give it a more finished look without weighing the
hair down.

The Messy Braid
Tools Needed: An elastic hair band, a light hold spray
Start with a basic side braid. Do not smooth the ends
as you go, as you want to achieve the “messy look”.
Fly-a-ways are OK in this instance. Once the braid
is completed, secure with elastic about an inch from
the bottom and pull on the braids’ sides to create the
“undone” look. Spray for added security. In these two
simple steps, you have a messy braid.
The Low Down – Buns & Ponytails
Tools Needed: A hairbrush and one small elastic. Hair wrap, pretty hair accessory or headband is optional.

Low buns and low ponies are getting a lot of attention this season. These styles are
featured on runways internationally, as well as taking the spotlight in the press and
social media. This low-key look is easy for all hairstyles and is very versatile. As well as
being easily dressed up with the ever-popular hair scarf, this look takes little to no
product and is easy to touch up on the go.
For the low pony: brush hair back and tie
with elastic at the base of your neck. You
can leave it messy if you prefer and add a
little product to give it a beachy
feel, or smooth it back for a
sleeker look. For the low bun:
Style hair into low ponytail and
tease lightly so that it becomes
voluminous. Next, use a small
elastic to keep in place. Separate
ponytail in two sections, top and
bottom. Tease the upper half to
give it more body. Create a small
bun with the teased portion and
secure by wrapping remaining
un-teased hair around it. Secure
with bobby pins.

trend report
2013
by Courtney Kretchman
The Deep Side Part
Tools Needed: High heat flat iron,
strong hold hairspray, fine-toothed
comb, small elastic or bobby pins.
This low-maintenance look is
sleek and dramatic in its own
right. Start with your hair blown
out and straightened stick straight
(another trend making its comeback this season). You will be able
to locate your own deep side part
by lining it up with the outside of
your eyebrow. If it feels unnatural, you may alternatively need to
line it up with your brows natural
arch. Using your comb, part your
hair, bring it over, exposing your
new part and comb smooth. Use
hairspray to keep hair in place.
Do not over-spray; just tame the
hair that is wanting to fall away.
You could also opt to use gel to
give it a sleek and glam look for
night. Pull hair tightly toward the
back and secure with a bobby
pin. You may also curl some soft
waves in the hair hanging loose,
or secure in the back into a low
small bun (pictured on left).

contoured, and strikingly bold lipped new look for this season. Our options for layers, textures,

use highlight and contour crèmes and
powder products to play up your natural features. Start
with a moisturizing primer and/or choose a hydrating
dewy finish foundation to create a flawless and luminous
canvas. Try Napoleon Perdis Light Patrol compact to
highlight the occipital, brow bone, and inner corner of
the eye to brighten. Next, sweep MAC, pressed mineral
powder in medium/dark with an angled contour brush in
the hollows of the cheeks to create defined contours.
13
For eyes
use warm luminous color in metallic
shades and line the inner rims to create an alluring fall eye
look that can easily be worn both day and evening. For
this look try Tarina Tarantino's Jewel Eyeshadow Palette
in Dreamy and Urban Decay's eye pencil in Zero. Begin by
applying a warm metallic shade to the lid, blending softly
up to the crease. Next, line upper lash and inner water
line with the kohl liner. Then press metallic eye color
in a dark chocolate shade along lash line with a smudge
brush to soften and set the liner look. Do this about half
way along the lower lash line as well to intensify the look.
Long and flirty lashes are still in as well. Use a great mascara to create length, such as Dior Show Mascara. To add
even more fullness try adding a few individual false lashes
to the outer corners.
Lips are making a bold yet wearable statement in rich
berry hues this fall. For the lip look, begin with a balm to
hydrate, protect, and prep. Next, line lips going outside
the natural line a bit if needed to create fullness. Color
inside the lip line a bit as well to add longer wear to your
lip color application. Next, apply a rich berry lip color like
MAC's Hang Up mixed with Desire for a bold look with
long wear.

How do you describe your fashion style? Comfortable is the best way to describe it. I like the simple

them. My mom gave me a bunch of recipes that
are all made for a family of six, so whenever I
cook we end up with leftovers for WEEKS!!!
What are you wearing on the red carpet for (next
event)? I have a little vintage red dress that I got
from a store in LA called REFORMATION that has
the BEST cut, falls perfectly on the curves. The party
that I am going to is Christmas teamed, so I’m going
all out and am going to paint the town RED!!!!
What your favorite movie? Hook!
Are you involved in any fashion design or labels?
I just started working with a jeans label called
BLUELAB, they have the BEST jeans in the world.
I actually was introduced to their line by my stylist
and fell in love with them, instantly! They make
my butt look great and my legs
super long. They are also reversible
and that part of the line is called
‘the morning after’. I literally wear
them everyday. Because they are
reversible, you literally get 2 pairs
for the price of one and their cut,
feel and patterns are to die for. They
are so, so comfortable, it feels like
you’re wearing tights! These are hands
down my favorite brand right now!
When did you realize that you wanted to be in the
entertainment industry? I’ve been performing ever
since I can remember. I used to put on plays and musicals for my fmily all the time as a kid. It’s all on tape
too, so if this ever gets out I’m screwed! I remember
How do you relax? I do pilates every other day. It
really helps me connect with my body and get out of
my head. Playing guitar soothes me, and watching a
good old comedy is therapeutic from time to time.
Are you dating? Married? How does Hollywood
effect your time with your other. I live with my
boyfreind who is also an actor. We try to not let work
get in the way of what truly matters. We’re both on
TV shows at the moment and work can get intense
and stresful, but it’s really nice to have each other
at the end of the day, to make it all worth while.

What projects are you working on? I’m always
writing something, whether it’s music or a script. I
love developing new ideas and telling stories. I have
a bunch of scripts, we’ll produce eventually,
I just need to get some time off from shooting : )
We just wrapped ‘Underemployed’ which airs every
Saturday @8pm on MTV. It is now a waiting game,
to see if the second season gets picked up. Fingers
crossed. I am also very lucky to work in Israel, there
always seems to be a cool project in motion for me.
Where do you vacation? My boyfriend and I are going to hit Mexico for New Years Eve. We decided on
a new tradition of every New Year, going somewhere
new. Hashtag-excited! But mostly, I really do miss my
family so much, being away from them most of the
year that when I actually get some time off, I always
rather go see them in Israel, than go anywhere else.
How often do you get back to Israel? AS MUCH
AS I CAN! When I have work or some time
off. IT REALLY IS MY FAVORITE PLACE ON EARTH.

watching ‘Leon : The Professional’ with my dad
when I was young. Natalie Portman’s character was
so magnetic and fascinating to watch, I remember
thinking - goodness.....I wish I could be that cool!
That was when I decided to embark on the Hollywood dream and be an actress in American cinema.
Who was your biggest fashion influence growing
up? This is kind of embarrassing but as a kid, I
always thought Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen were
the coolest fashion icons on the planet! They were
my age and always looked perfect. I used to think
to myself, how does that happen?? As I got older,
I started loving Jennifer Aniston’s timeless classic
style on carpets and elegant and simple street chic
look. I also really like how Cameron Diaz keeps it
fresh and young, yet high fashion and exciting.
Do you support any charities, or
are there any you are interested
in? Charity is the easiest way to stay
happy. Really. Try it and tell me if it
didn’t make you feel - lucky & fuzzy
inside. Me and my friend, Oren
Rehany just started a non-profit organization called ‘Sunny Side Up’ which
is a clowning group, who show up at
different facilities where ‘Laugher’ is
needed and make complete fools of
ourselves and make everyone around
us laugh. IT’S AWESOME! The last
place we visited, was a seniors home
in West Hollywood on Halloween.
We celebrated our annual Halloween
for a few, very sweet seniors who
didn’t really have anyone left to
celebrate with. We are lucky as we both know
plenty of extremely talented actors and musicians
in town who are happy to come and play around. It
always turns into a fun party and is so rewarding.
Who would you like to work with in the future?
There are so many amazing artists out there. I’ve
always wanted to work with some of the great directors - some of my favorites, who are everyones favorites include; Steven Spielberg Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Darren Aronofsky...the list goes on and
on... If only I could put that on my Christmas list!!!!!

Do you have any advice for new
comers on the Hollywood scene?
Go to school, study hard, watch good
cinema, go to an art gallery, watch
a live concert, get inspired by other
artists. Don’t do the ‘hollywood club
scene/ schmooze/ mingle scene’ it
doesn’t work and its not real and
it will consume and destroy you.
What brands of shoes are you
into? I actually really like Michael
Kors. I think they’re afordable and
comfy. I love Jimmy Choo. Louis
Vuitton, are always are flawless.
Which colors dominate your wardrobe? Black is a
very good friend. I also love cream colors. You could
say, however, that my wardrobe is dominated by all
kinds of black & white - those colors rule my life.
T
Any dating advice for your fans?
Why do I keep getting this question?
: ) I guess my only advice would be
to take it easy. Don’t push too hard,
don’t try too hard, don’t play games
and walk away if the other person is
doing any of the above. AND always
remember how beautiful you are.
What is a funny fashion disaster
story you can tell us? I once went
on a very important dinner meeting
and wore this incredible off white
chiffon dress.....When I went to the
bathroom I realized I had a huge
stain on the back of the dress, that
I hadn’t seen before hand. I quickly,
washed it with soap which only made
it worse. I didn’t know what to do!
I eventually went back to my seat.
I had to cover it with my purse for
the rest of the night.....needless to
say, I was mortified. I’m still hoping
nobody noticed. Yeah Right...
Are you a high heel or a flat
girl? Day to day, I am a flat shoe girl, all the
way . Night time, however, High Heels - ALL
THE WAY. I am actually a big fan of boots,
I basically wear boots all year round.

Whats your favorite shopping

Melrose is AMAZING. The owner

then refurbish into ‘one of a kind’
pieces that are always comfortable,
stylish, and make a statement. The
great thing is, the pieces are not
over priced and are always cool!

HOT PICKS
Jeffrey Campbell One of the hottest items on the market is the “Damsel
Skull” platform lace-up bootie from
Jeffrey Campbell. These spooky shoes
are whitewashed with ghoulish skeletal studs and prove to be a heel hit any
time of year.
Boots are an obvious staple for snow, but the
high-cut bootie is now taking its place center
stage in a variety of architectural cuts and colors.
Brunello Cucinelli A feather-infused bracelet such as this is wearable
with any outfit. Delicate beading is intertwined in the feathers and works to
complete this lovely piece of jewelry.
Taccetti Color-drenched contempo-disco platforms with a nifty little
zipper up the center, these ankle-cut
peppy peep-toe heels are sure to
make you the life of the party.
Tasha A set of soft pink feathers and
embellished crystalline gems sit atop
a slender, ribbon-wrapped headband
for a subtle pop of pizazz. The sparkle
of this piece is so simple, yet so perfect. Wear with your hair up to let your
beauty shine through.
Ways to Wear it
What better way to save money than by
shopping in your own closet? This time it’s
all about dressing up a key piece to wear
over and over again. With Fall beginning to
creep in, we recommend a flowy, oversize
button-up blouse or a full-length cardigan.
Don’t forget to accessorize!
The Office – A slim pencil skirt
peeking out of an unbuttoned
cardigan is perfect for any business endeavor.
Dolce Vita Satin straps caress this
geometric platform bootie from Dolce
Vita. They’re perfect holiday shoes
for any family gathering or gift-giving
setting.
Michael Kors Who would think animal print and gold would go together so fabulously? With the “Cynthia”
bootie, you’ll be the talk of the town.
These genuine leather platform heels
rock an authentic leopard pattern and
sassy metallic toe just for those daring
to be bold.
Brian Atwood Painting perfect
kitten heel booties are color-splashed
with vibrant colors and thin black laces. An equally colorful strap wraps
around the ankle to finish off the look.
Jimmy Choo A set of boots this wild
paired with the right outfit shows that
you are a true fashionista. Multi-colored and textured furs line this kneehigh boot to the nines. A pair of skintight, black, skinny jeans and a black,
long-sleeve turtleneck are the only way
to get away with wearing footwear
this awesome.
Giuseppe Zanotti Futuristic and
simple. Sleek and stunning. These
square-toed space-age platform heels
are wrapped in shimmery metallic
leather and are guaranteed to garner
attention.
Lanvin This chunky chain necklace
has ornate bead detail and a sophisticated little black feather pendant. Perfect for dinner parties or even a casual
girls’ night out, this piece can be worn
with just about anything.
Givenchy Winter-time wear was
never this hot. Bring back a touch of
the old-world class with the Givenchy
faux fur brooch. A delicate snowflake-shaped brooch cradles tufted
faux fur, embossed silver, crystals, and
a genuine pearl.

perfect accessory candidate.

dress and isn’t complete without a set of chunky bracelets.

As the climate cools down, fashion warms us up and we begin to
pile on the layers.
Winter is right on our boot heels, so we reach toward the cardigans for additional warmth.......then the jacket, the coat, a scarf,
and so on. Knowing we are heading into the “Layered Zone”
until spring, let’s look at keeping it fashionable and sleek.
Start with a thin spandex tank top or cashmere camisole as
the first layer for the top half of body. Both materials assist in
containing the heat in the body’s core. The thin tank or camisole
foundation allows for easily adapting a second layer with a
shirt or long sleeve tee. For the lower half of the body, let’s go
with tights or leggings as first layer. They are sleek and adaptable to a second layer of skirt, pant or even wool city shorts.
Flip Flops are stored away and socks come into play! Have some
fun and be fashionable with so many sock choices in stores today. Ankle socks over tights with pumps is very 80’s and 2012.
Knee socks over tights with loafers can be cute in argyle for the
collegiate look or cable knit with a work boot for an urban vibe.
Now high as thighs, the socks can be worn fully pulled over knees
with a knee high boot or scrunched below the knee at the top of
the boot for a more relaxed look.
Balmain The epitome of sophisticated luxury are the velvet peep-toe heels
from Balmain. A structured pattern is
etched into the surface of the bootie
and the heel is made of wood. These
heels steal the show, so the rest of the
ensemble for that date night should be
moderately simple.
Aldo Only a label like Aldo can create such stunning displays of footwear
art. Glittering crystals pepper the fine
satin booties and will go perfectly with
that little black dress and layers of silver jewelry.

Natasha Couture Wispy, lightweight feathers envelop this statement
clutch inspired by old Hollywood
glamour of the roaring 20s. Detailed
with a rhinestone-encrusted clasp,
dainty chain, and satin lining, this

Steve Madden A light-hearted
chunky bootie such as this should not
be taken lightly. A fantastic tribal pattern emblazons the entire shoe, and
flaunts diminutive triangular cuts on
each side. Finished with long and lithe
laces, pair with wooden bracelets for
a sightly boho look.

Keys to maintaining a lean look are keeping an overall tonal color
for a taller appearance as well as accentuating the waistline, drawing the eye in. Adding a belt over sweaters or even jackets can be
slimming and defining to keep your layered looks figure friendly.
There are many combinations for applying and layering pieces to
express the fashionable you. Here are a few for consideration:
Casual Comfort Cream ribbed turtle neck, longer grey wool
cardigan sweater with 2” luggage leather belt, denim jacket with
fur vest layered on top, textured leggings with luggage toned riding boots, topped off with a full brimmed felt hat of any color for
a lift.
City Chic Black wool dress, black sweater tights, novel sweater
vest over dress then a wool blazer, silk scarf knotted at throat or
as ascot and black work boots. Add a tam and fingerless gloves
for fineness!
Evening Elegance Black worsted wool pant suit, novel satin plum color structured vest, high collar candlelight white silk
blouse with piled pearls. Then wrap it all up in a grey cashmere
shawl/cape plus black fedora chapeau and evening gloves.
