Course
Centred around a narrow bay, Flensburg is one of the most
northern cities in Germany, almost touching the border to
Denmark. This little idyllic, green town has been shaped by
its proximity to the sea, and its maritime identity permeates
its life and culture. Flensburg’s origins lie in the fishing and
trading industry and for centuries it was one of the most
important trading hubs in the Scandinavian region. In the
Middle Ages, the city was part of Denmark and still today
its close-knit history with Denmark is visible. Danes form
the largest ethnic minority and the influence of the Danish
language is still keenly felt.
Visit one of the historic sites and museums along the
harbour, breathe in the fresh cold sea breeze, or stroll
around the city’s well-preserved old town. Despite its
chilly temperatures, you’ll leave Flensburg with warm and
pleasant memories!
