We hope you’ll find just the class you’re looking for: to inspire your knitting, crocheting, or weaving, to learn a new craft, or just to have fun! You can find this catalog and other information online at yarnery.com. Register for classes in person at The Yarnery or pay with credit card by phone at 651.222.5793. Class fees do not include supplies unless indicated. Class supply lists are available at The Yarnery or via email. The Yarnery offers a 10% discount on class supplies. You will also receive a 10% discount card to be used once over the duration of your class; it expires one week after the last class session. PARKING Parking is free on Grand Avenue and surrounding streets, in one- or two-hour increments, depending on the time of day. Paid lots and ramps are available just north and south of Grand Avenue, accessible off Victoria Street. Our own parking lot (yes, we have one!) is accessible off the alley behind The Yarnery. Use either Avon Street or Victoria Street and proceed to the lot marked with signs for parking at 840/844 Grand Avenue. Plan on arriving twenty minutes before your first class session to purchase supplies, wind yarn, and get oriented to the shop (though we encourage you to visit the shop a few days before your first class to purchase supplies). A yarn swift and ball winder are available for student use. Class cancellations must be made 7 days prior to the first class session to receive a refund. Class cancellations may occur, particularly if a minimum student requirement is not met. If this happens, you will be contacted by phone and/or email regarding the cancellation. We will help you find a new class or offer a refund for the original class fee (by check if you paid with cash or check, or on the credit card you used). PRIVATE LESSONS Not sure if classes are for you? Our expanded private lesson schedule was developed to give you focused attention, at a time that works for you. Individual lessons are $25 per hour, and include a 10% discount on supplies for the lesson. FIX YOUR MISTAKES Level: Advanced Beginning $26 Lace or cable mistake 12 rows down? Learn how to isolate and fix the problem! Never rip back row upon row to fix one problem again. Level: Beginning $18 Does your stomach sink when you check over your knitting and see a mistake? Fortunately, most knitting mistakes are easily corrected. Learn to recognize mistakes and fix them, pick up dropped stitches, and safely rip out stitches. Saturday June 7 Gretchen Funk 12-3 pm DARNING 101 Level: Advanced Beginning $18 Learn how to repair your hand knits or machine knit garments (SmartWool socks come to mind!). This workshop will focus on traditional or woven and the Swiss darning method to make those garments good as new. Tuesday June 10 Peggy Lexau 6-8 pm KNOW YOUR FIBER Level: Beginning $18 A great new class! Confounded by the many different fibers you see in the shop—alpaca, wool, cotton, linen, silk, and all the variations in each one? Peter will show you how each behaves when worked into fabric, and you’ll see fibers in various stages of production, from raw fleece to refined yarn. As if that’s not enough, you’ll also learn how and why different fibers are plied, and what each weight of yarn means. This class is a must for every knitter. You’ll leave this class with several skills: how to hold the yarn, create floats on the wrong side, and read the charts used in color knitting. Sarah Rye 6-8 pm HITOFUDE BOARDWALK & SYCAMORE VESTS Level: Advanced Beginning/Intermediate $64 One of our most popular classes ever is back! “Hitofude”, means a single brush stroke in Japanese. This open front cardigan with an allover lace pattern is worked in one “yarn stroke”—a continuous strand without ever cutting the yarn. We’re fairly certain it’s an essential piece for any knitter’s wardrobe. Level: Advanced Beginning $64 Choose from Brooklyn Tweed’s Boardwalk or Hannah Fettig’s Sycamore, vests that are light and easy to knit in the summer, and perfect to layer in the fall. Each would be beautiful knit in a variety of fibers, from wool to cotton to a Shibui Mix. In this two day class you will learn how to warp and weave on a Beka rigid-heddle loom. The class project is a scarf, and you can choose from a variety of sock yarns. No previous weaving experience required. Cost includes two-week rental fee of loom. Saturday/Sunday June 14, 15 Theresa Gaffey 9 am-4 pm BEGINNING DROP SPINDLE Level: Beginning $31 Who are those people walking around the yarn store playing with a yo-yo? It’s not a yo-yo, it’s a drop spindle, and they are spinning their own yarn! You can too, and it’s easy, and fun, and addicting. Two sessions and you’ll be creating your own stash of handspun yarn.
