Burlington Machine Knitters Guild, Burlington, Ontario CANADA Welcome May! Welcome Spring!
Welcome to the May 2014 edition of the Burlington Machine Knitters Guild newsletter. Finally
the garden is awakeing with the Daylilies taking the lead and the Roses are beginning to bud
quite nicely but the wet soil in our clay-base yard means I must refrain from doing to much to
soon lest I compact the soil by walking on it. This of course leaves time for knitting! On the
machine is a Passap Baby Blanket, and two women’s sweaters are on the go on my Superba’s. If
you would like to contribute photos of your works-in-progress, please email me your .png or .jpg
format photos to paddymadden@gmail.com and I will include these in upcoming newsletters.

A Prayer In Spring by Robert Frost
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.
!
Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.
And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.
!
For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

April 2014 Meeting Notes & Photos
Thank you to all the members who came out to the April 2014 meeting. We had another great
meeting with a wonderful selection of machine knit projects for Show ’N Tell.
Norma Bond gave a wonderful presentation on Fibonacci Stripes featured in Margaret Radcliffe’s
book The Essential Guide To Colour Knitting Technique from the guild library showcasing this
striping method. Norma also had many samples of the Fibonacci Stripe method, comparing this to
samples made not using the method. Very interesting and informative. Thank you Norma.
Our Co-Chair Chris Hitchcock then led a round table discussion of Basic Hats, with guild members
invited to show their machine knit hats. This was a lively and very informative discussion, allowing
members to ask questions and we will be repeating this Round Table Discussion format on a
regular basis.
Enjoy the meeting photos!
