Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
You changed my mourning into dancing;
O Lord, my God,
forever will I give you thanks— Psalms 30:13
THE LORD OF LIFE
At this bountiful time of year, our Sunday readings team with life and abundance. Both the first reading, from the book of Wisdom, and the Gospel passage from Mark assure us that God did not make death or even will us to be
ill. Illness and death entered the world through the presence of evil, the Wisdom author tells us. Mark's stories of Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman
and resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear that Jesus is from God. As the
Son of God he does not will that anyone suffer illness or death. In the face of
such power, the second reading, from Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians,
provides a stark contrast. Jesus, who could raise the dead to new life, "though
he was rich, for your sake he became poor" (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of
new life from Christ demands our response in charity. Copyright© J. S. Paluch Co.

July Fourth Prayer
Almighty and eternal God,
you have revealed your glory to
all nations. God of power and
might, wisdom and justice,
through you authority is rightly
administered, laws are enacted,
and judgment is decreed. Assist
with your spirit of counsel and
fortitude the President of these
United States, that his administration may be conducted in
righteousness, and be eminently
useful to your people over
whom he presides. May he encourage due respect for virtue
and religion. May he execute
the laws with justice and mercy. May he seek to restrain
crime, vice, and immorality.
We likewise commend to your
unbounded mercy all citizens of
the United States, that we may
be blessed in the knowledge
and sanctified in the observance
of your holy law. May we be
preserved in union and that
peace which the world cannot
give; and, after enjoying the
blessings of this life, be
admitted to those which are
eternal. We pray to you, who
are Lord and God, for ever and
ever. Amen.
Happy 239th Birthday
America!
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17th - On the occasion of their milestone anniversary, the 2000 Ordination Class celebrated a
Mass. Originally there were 10 priests ordained in the group,
the other four could not come. Please continue to pray for our
priests.

Something new in our parish . . .
Vocation Chalice Ministry is an effort to
pray for an increase of vocations to the
priesthood and Religious Life. You will receive the Chalice at the 9:00AM Mass. If
you are interested in bringing the Vocation
Chalice home, call the parish office at 585-5970 during office hours or you may send an e-mail to our parish.
Each Sunday after communion, the family scheduled
will receive the Vocation Chalice which has been set
aside for this purpose. They receive a blessing and take
the chalice home, putting it in a place of honor. Each
day of the week, the family prays for an increase in
and perseverance of vocations. The following Sunday,
they return the Vocation Chalice at the Offertory.

CATECHISTS NEEDED
What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is a specialized care designed to provide support to you
and your loved ones during an advanced illness. Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. The goal of hospice care is to enable you to have an alert, pain-free life … to live
each day as fully as possible. It is an approach to end-of-life care
that helps patients make the most of the life they have left. Hospice
care provides medical services, emotional support, and spiritual resources for people who are in the last stages of a serious illness.
Hospice care can be for adult and pediatric patients with a wide range of
life-limiting illnesses, including but
not limited to cancer, heart disease,
stroke, lung disease, liver disease, kidney disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS,
Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and AIDS.
Some people think that starting hospice is a last resort; that it means
they're giving up on life. But hospice
is simply a type of care that focuses on the quality of your life instead of on continuing with treatment to prolong your life.
Eligibility for most hospice programs is usually based on two main
requirements:
Your illness can't be cured. This is called a terminal illness.
Your doctor expects that you will live 6 months or less if your illness
runs its normal course. Typically a form must be signed by your primary doctor as well as the medical director or physician member of a
hospice team.
It can be hard for doctors to know how long a person will live. Some
people live longer than expected. If you do live longer than 6
months, you can continue with hospice. If your illness gets better,
you can stop receiving hospice care. You may no longer qualify for
it.
Hospice care is generally paid for by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Care may also be available to those unable to pay.
For more information, you can contact VITAS Healthcare or Hospice
of Palm Beach County.
