Tamanna Karim is a Board Certified (ASCP: America Society for Clinical Pathology) clinical
microbiologist working in a Hospital in Boston area.
She is the daughter of Late Shahjada Abdul Malik Khan who was an Ex State Minister of Industry of
the Government of Bangladesh, a valiant Freedom Fighter, a Member of Parliament (MP) and Late
Suraiya Begum.
Mrs. Karim has an MS in Biomedical Science & Post Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory
Science specializing in Microbiology from Bouve college of Pharmacy Northeastern University,
Boston, Massachusetts. She obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the
department of Biochemistry at Dhaka University in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Currently, she is pursuing MBA, specializing in Health Care at Suffolk University, Boston, MA.
Mrs. Karim is an Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. She is the President of independently owned and
operated pharmacy business, an active donor of BANE, Nazrul Fund, “Chhandika,” and few other
non-profit organizations. Currently, she is working on a project to introduce scholarship at school
level in Barisal area.
She is a core member of “Chhandika,” a non-profit institute of “Kathak” dance, a member of DUBNA
(Dhaka University Biochemistry Living in North America). She has organized our young children to
perform in a Magical Night, “TARANA”, in 2010; a part of its proceedings was donated to BANE.
Mrs. Karim is married to Dr. Vashkar Karim and has one daughter, Anisha Karim.
She is totally committed to serve our community.

MOHAMMAD ASKANDAR ALAM

Mohammad Askandar Alam is by profession a businessman. He has been living here in Boston since
1990. Having completed secondary and higher secondary education, he has graduated in Hotel and
Restaurant Management that earned him reputation. He was employed as server and as manager in
some of the fine-dining restaurants in Massachusetts like Maison Robert, Top of the Hub, Capital
Grill and Abe & Louis Steak House where he has been much appreciated. However, driven by
ambition, Alam opened restaurant business back in 1999 as well as has investment in real estate and
convenience store businesses.
Besides, Mr. Alam is actively involved in Bangladeshi community activities and in mainstream
politics of the USA through which he has been supporting the community in various means.
Previously, he served a 2-year term as the Executive Member. At that time, he pioneered the
establishment of first Shaheed Minar in Boston.
He aspires to work more closely for community development by creating job opportunity and
helping to solve problems people encounter. A professional soccer player back in Bangladesh, he
has also got interest in cricket, traveling, baseball and American football.
He is the son of Md. Abdur Rahim and Mosammat Mamtaz Begum. Mr. Alam lives in the Boston
area with his lovely wife, Anwara Alam Anu, three sons, Saimon Mohiul Alam, Samin Abraham Alam,
and Eram Ibtehaz Alam, and two brothers, Md. Forkan and Md. Dalwoar Hossain.

BAZLUL WAHAB SHAHEEN

Bazlul Wahab Shaheen is currently working as a Senior Materials Engineer in Wind Turbine
Technology. He obtained his Bachelors of Engineering degree with Composite Materials Engineering
from Minnesota State University in USA. In Bangladesh, he passed SSC and HSC from Sylhet Cadet
College. He stood 3rd and 11th positions in the combined merit list of Comilla Board in SSC (1988) and
in HSC (1990) respectively. Besides academic achievement, he actively participated in football
(soccer), cricket, basketball, volleyball, track & field events and cultural activities i.e., wall magazine
publications, extempore speech, spelling bees, chorus singing, and public speech. Prior to his
departure, he was the only athlete in Sylhet Cadet College’s history who won medals in all track
events (100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M, 3000M, 4x100M Relay, 4x400M Relay, 3-mile Cross
Country, 5-mile Cross Country). He was the captain of football and cricket teams of his batch and
college teams. He was the top goal scorer of the football team. Before leaving Cadet College in 1990,
he was honored with the best ‘All Round Cadet’ award of his batch’s entirety (1984-90).
He moved to USA after passing HSC. In USA, he participated in football (soccer), cricket, and
volleyball competitions and won awards with all three sports. He was involved with cultural
activities such as Master of the Ceremony, Moderator of cultural programs, talent shows during his
university days in USA. He is an avid fan of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, Dhaka Mohammedan
Sporting Club, Argentina National Football Team, and Barcelona Football Club. He has great interests
in learning new languages, current world affairs, geography, traveling, Bangla songs, Bangla poetry,
comparative religions, etc. He acquired working knowledge in Spanish as well as some knowledge in
Arabic. He is a member of several Composites and Polymer Engineering, Polymer groups, Boston
area based Bangladesh Progress Alliance of North America (BDPANA) in USA and Old Cadets
Association of Sylhet (OCAS) as well as its North America branch, OCAS America, Mohammedan Fan
Club, and Mohammedan Warriors.
He is the son of Late Md. Abdul Wahab, Ex Vice President of Eastern Insurance Company in Dhaka
and Rahima Begum, Ex Social Worker in the Ministry of Social Welfare Department in Dhaka as well
as a nephew of ABM Abdul Haque Chowdhury, Ex Secretary of Ministry of Textiles & Jute and Ex
Director General of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). He is married to Shaheen A.
Wahab and is the father of two sons, Auneek Ahmed Wahab and Jeeshan Ahmed Wahab.
Mr. Shaheen is confident that his leadership will make a positive impact in our community.

Golam R. Faruque has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Currently, he’s a Business Owner. Mr.
Faruque who is a very friendly person is the current Treasurer of Bangladesh Association of New
England (BANE). He loves fishing, playing & watching football (soccer), cultural activities e.g., drama,
poem recitation.
He is the son of Late Abdur Rashid, Ex District Nazir of the District of Khulna and Aleya Begum. He is
married to Mahfuja Haq and is the father of two sons, Daiyaan Faruque and Farhan Faruque.

Mahabub-E-Khoda Khoka currently is working in a business in Roslindale, MA. He obtained Master
of Commerce in Accounting and Bachelors of Commerce in Accounting from National University of
Bangladesh in Bangladesh. He worked as an Assistant Manager in BASIC Bank Limited in Bangladesh.
He participated in Foreign Exchange and Financial in International Trade and Foundation courses
training conducted under BASIC Bank Limited. For his outstanding work, he was selected as the Top
Employee by BASIC Bank Limited. He obtained a Diploma in Computer Science & Technology from
Bangladesh National Training & Research Academy for Multilingual Shorthand (Ntrams) and also
successfully completed the Graphics program.
He played cricket for one of the top and popular clubs in Bangladesh, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting
Club Limited for two years in 1996 and 1997 with former national cricketers and Bangladesh
National Cricket Team captains Aminul Islam Bulbul, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Khaled Mahmud
Sujon.
He is the son of Md. Anwarul Hoque, Ex Member, Bangladesh Public Service Commission and Ex
Chairman, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Barisal and Azmola Nasrin.
Mr. Khoka is married to Khatuna Jannat Arju and is the father of a son, Anowar Ahnab Mahabub
Barno. His interests are spending time with his family, traveling, and sports.

Jewel Barua has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Chittagong University. His passion is
playing ‘tabla.’ Besides playing ‘tabla,’ he writes song, composes and directs music. He is selfemployed. Previously, he served a 2-year term as the Cultural Secretary and a 2-year term as the
Joint Secretary of the Boston Bangladesh Buddhist Association (BBBA).
He is married to Nipa Barua who is a musician like him. She also has a good hand in key-board as
well. Mr. Barua is the son of Advocate Nepal Chandra Barua and Rekha Barua.
He is very much motivated to spearhead the cultural activities for our community.

Shahidul Islam Rone owns and runs a business in Cambridge, MA for the last three years. He is
currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management at the University
of Massachusetts, Boston. He studied at Wali Newaz Khan College with a major of Accounting in
Bangladesh. He was a Student team leader known as a Political leader in years of 2002-2005 at
Kishoregonj District, where he supported students on team activities included safety and building
relationships between the faculty and the students. He was a member of Red Crescent where he
played an instrumental role in relief and rehabilitation during floods, cyclones and other natural
disasters which are frequent in various parts of Bangladesh. He was involved in ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’
organization in Bangladesh to help reduce the road accident and was also involved with other Social
organizations.
Mr. Rone is single and his parents, Mohammad Abdur Rahman and Rosun Ara Begum and three
brothers, Mohammad Ariful Islam Jony, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Rocky, and Md. Shafiqul Islam AlRabby are residing in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

DR. HASAN UZ ZAMAN MUKUL

Dr. Hasan Uz Zaman Mukul is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering in WIT (Wentworth
Institute of Technology) in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his Masters and Ph.D. both in
Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. In Bangladesh, he received
his Bachelors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and
Technology (BUET) in 1991. He was placed in first class with Honors (3rd in order of merit). He passed
SSC from Rangpur Zilla School in 1982 and secured the 3rd position in the combined merit list in
Rajshahi Board. He passed HSC from Dhaka College in 1984 and stood 10th in the combined merit list
in Dhaka Board.
He was a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of BUET from 1991 to
1993. In the US, he also worked in several US companies such as Analog Devices, Broadcom, etc.
before returning to the academia in 2012 as a faculty.
Dr. Hasan Uz Zaman has many technical publications. He is the author an Electrical Engineering book
titled “Process Compilation Methods of Thin Film Devices”, which is available on Amazon and Barnes
and Noble websites. He received the 1999 Best Paper Award from the prestigious journal of IEEE
Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing. He is a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers), ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education), and Engineering Honor
Society Tau Beta Pi.
He is the current General Secretary of AABEA (American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers and
Architects), New England Chapter.
He is a sports enthusiast. He regularly plays soccer when he gets the chance. He also enjoys
literature and music. He likes spending time with his family and traveling.
He is the youngest child of Late Md. Abdur Rahim and Mosammat Haleda Hanum. He has one
brother and three sisters. He is the husband of Sharmina Zaman Rita and the father of two boys,
Sheehab Zaman and Sharaf Zaman, and one girl, Maliha Zaman.

Sharmina Zaman Rita is by profession an Engineer. Currently, she teaches in the University of
Massachusetts, Lowell. She passed SSC from Viquarun Nisa Noon School and HSC from Holy Cross
College in Dhaka. She got star marks with first division in both SSC and HSC. She got her BS in Civil
Engineering from BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology). She worked as an
Assistant Engineer in LGED (Local Government Engineering Department) of Bangladesh. She did her
Masters in Computer Science from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. She was also a visiting
Faculty of AIUB (American International University of Bangladesh). She has been living in the Boston
area since 1997 and has been actively involved in the Bangladeshi community activities. She likes to
sing. She was the emcee of many Bangladeshi cultural programs. Previously, she was the Cultural
Secretary of AABEA (American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers and Architects), New England
Chapter. She is also a volunteer for the US Democratic Party.
She is the daughter of Late Abdur Rahman and Nurjahan Begum. She has six brothers and two
sisters. She is the wife of Dr. Hasan Uz Zaman Mukul and the mother of two sons, Sheehab Zaman
and Sharaf Zaman and one daughter, Maliha Zaman.

Eeshan Kabir Rita is by profession an Engineer. Currently, she is working for a healthcare software
company in Downtown, Boston. She did her BA in Computer Science and Physics from Boston
University. She has been living in the Boston area since 2008. Previously, she worked at the Optical
Characterization of Particles Nano laboratory as a research assistant. She also tutored Physics and
Calculus at the Educational Resource Center at Boston University for 4 years. She was the web
designer of BUBSA (Boston University Bangladeshi Students Association). She is the youngest
member of this panel.
Her hobby is playing piano and reading books. Ms. Kabir is the daughter of Syed Hussain Hanif and
Morshada Khatun Mary and is the sister of Georgish Hussain.

Monica Rahman Munni is the current Educational Secretary of Bangladesh Association of New
England (BANE). She is a Registered Pharmacist who obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Mass
College of Pharmacy.

Rahman. Mrs. Rahman is married to Mr. Yamin Rahman. She is the sister of Enamur Rahman Emon

Farzana Hasan Keya is currently working in a KUMON Center as an Assistant Teacher and as a
volunteer at Lahey Clinic. She completed a certificate course on Medical Billing and Coding in USA.
She got her Hons. & MA in Economics in Bangladesh. After her Economics degree, she worked in the
Standard Chartered Bank’s credit section. She was also involved with fashion designer, Bizly Haq
and worked with her in an Eid Magazine for a while.
She has a 6-yr-old boy, Abner. Her best niece is Saffana and she is grateful to her parents who are

USA in 1991. She likes reading, housekeeping, cooking.

Bangladeshi Association of New England (BANE) and the mother of two sons, Pritam Barua, A

Abul Kashem Wahidi works in a construction company. Mr. Wahidi was a valiant Freedom Fighter of
our war of Independence in 1971 against Pakistan. He fought against the Pakistani Army in Sector 1
located in Sitakunda area in Chittagong. He was involved with different organizations, social work.
He was honored with different positions.
He is married to Hasina Akhter and is the father of one son, Raisul Wahidi Kaiser and one daughter,
Raisha Wahidi Asha.
