Knit 4 – 203 Design by Maggie Pace ICE-SKATING OUTFIT for 18” Doll Materials: 1 skein each worsted weight yarn (220 yrds/201m per 3 ½ oz/100g) blue and cream Tools: Size 6, 16” Boye circular needle; a set of size 6 Boye double pointed needles; a yarn needle, stitch marker Tension: On size 6 circulars in stockinette stitch, 5 stitches x 7 rows = 1 square inch Instructions Shape Skirt Using the cream yarn, cast on 200 stitches on circular needle. Place marker to mark the beginning of rnd. Join yarn to work in rounds. Rnd 1: Purl Rnd 2: P2tog to end – 100 sts on needle Change to blue yarn. Switch to double-pointed needles when the sts get too tight. Rnds 3-23: Knit Rnd 24: *K2 tog, K 8. Rep from * to end of rnd – 90 sts on needle Rnd 25: Knit Rnd 26: *K2 tog, K 7. Rep from * to end of rnd – 80 sts on needle Rnd 27: Knit Rnd 28: *K2 tog, K 6. Rep from * to end of rnd – 70 sts on needle Rnd 29: Knit Rnd 30: *K2 tog, K 5. Rep from * to end of rnd – 60 sts on needle Rnd 31: Knit Rnd 32: *K2 tog, K 4. Rep from * to end of rnd – 50 sts on needle Rnd 33: Knit Rnd 34: *K2 tog, K 3. Rep from * to end of rnd – 40 sts on needle Rnd 35: Knit Shape Waist and Chest Rnd 36: Bind off 1, K 4. Rep from * to end of rnd, end K 3 – 32 sts on needle Rnd 37: Cast on 1, K4. Rep from * to end of rnd – 40 sts on needle Rnd 38: Knit to end; as you knit, work newly cast on stitches through the back loop to tighten. Rnd 39: *M1, K4. Rep from * to end of rnd – 50 sts on needle Rnd 40: *M1, K5. Rep from * to end of rnd – 60 sts on needle Rnd 41: Knit Work Back Slit and Armholes To create the slit at the back, the remainder of the dress will be worked back and forth in rows, as if you are working on straight needles. Row 1: Turn work, K3, purl until 3 sts before the marker, K2. Remove marker and turn work. Row 2: Knit to back slit Row 3: K3, purl to 2 sts before the back slit, K3 Rows 4-11: Rep Rows 2&3 four times more. Shape Armholes Row 12: K12, bind off 6, K23, bind off 6, K11 – 48 sts on needle Work First Back Panel Continue by working the first 12 sts only to complete first back panel: Row 1: K3, purl to 2 sts before armhole opening, P2tog – sts on needle Row 2: Turn work, knit to end Row 3: Turn work, K3, purl to arm hole Rows 4-11: Repeat Rows 2 & 3 Bind off these 11 sts to complete first back panel. Break yarn and fasten off last stitch. Work Chest Front With new yarn and working just the 24 sts between the armholes, Row 1: Purl Row 2: Knit Rows 3-8: Repeat Rows 1-2 *P6, turn work and K6; turn work and rep from * twice more. Bind off 6 sts in purl. Break yarn to fasten off last stitch. With new yarn, bind off 12 sts in purl. Purl next 5 sts. Turn work and K6 *P6, turn work and K6; turn work and rep from * once more. Bind off 6 sts in purl. Break yarn to fasten off last stitch. Work Second Back Panel Row 1: P2 tog, purl to 3 sts before the end, K3 – 11 sts on needle Row 2: Knit to end Row 3: Turn work, purl to 3 sts before the end, K3 Rows 4-11: Repeat Rows 2 & 3 Bind all sts to complete second back panel. Break yarn and fasten off last stitch. Knit I-Cord Belt Using the double-pointed needles, cast on 2 sts. *Knit one row. Without turning work, slide sts across needle. Pull live yarn tautly across back of work and repeat from * . Continue until the i-cord reaches desired length, around 15” Finishing Weave in all ends. Fold the two back panels onto the center chest so all sections’ wrongsides are touching. Seam the outer 6 sts of the first back panel to the front strap. The seam will run across the entire length of the front strap, put not the back panel – 6 bound off sts will remain unseamed. In the same manner, seam the second panel and strap. Weave in ends. Pick Up Stitches for Garter Stitch Collar Using the size 6 needle and cream yarn, pick up and knit 6 sts at the back panel -- along the flap that is made up of the bound off sts not included in the seam. Pick up and knit five sts from the rows that make up the front strap. Pick up and knit the 12 sts across the chest front. Pick up and knit five sts from the rows that make up the next front strap. Finally, pick up and knit the remaining 6 stitches from the next back panel. Work in garter stitch two rows. Bind off all sts and weave in end. Thread the belt through the buttonholes along the waist. Add ties on both sides of the garter stitch edging along the back so the child can tie bows to secure the doll’s dress.
