Spring/Summer Calendar 2013
Join us in thanking those
who fund these wonderful
services for patients
and family members.
Support Services are an integral part
of the patient and family-centered
approach at Norris Cotton Cancer
Center. Patient and Family Support
Services programs address the physical
and emotional comfort of patients
and their caregivers through diagnosis, treatment, and beyond.
Whether in a monthly support group, through expressive art, or with a gentle massage, support
services help connect cancer patients and family members to a renewed sense of well-being.
We are able to offer our programs and services – at no charge to our patients and families –
because of generous donations from grateful patients, local foundations and volunteers.
Please join us in thanking the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center, the Hypertherm
Hope Foundation, Benjamin H. Schore, DHMC Auxiliary, DHMC Arts, the Gertrude
Mertens Arts Endowment Fund.
To learn how your gift can fund support services for cancer
patients and families, please call Amy Schrom at (603) 653-0745.
Other ways to help Norris Cotton Cancer Center
Life. Live it. Give it.

Give of your time or talent.
Do you have special skills or training? Be part of our incredible group of
volunteers who offer Reiki, staff the Comfort Cart, and deliver lunches in
the Infusion Suite. We also accept donations of knit shawls, hats and hand
warmers. Learn more about our many volunteer opportunities by contacting

Support & Education Groups
Studies show that support and education group
participants experience increased energy, less depression
and an enhanced sense of well-being.
Experienced, caring staff members facilitate all groups.
Everything that is said or discussed is confidential.
Groups are held in person, or are conducted by phone
over a free conference line. Several groups combine
both in-person and phone-in options. Our telephone
support groups require pre-registration. All of our phone-in
groups are open to anyone in the region regardless of
where they received their treatment.
Groups meet monthly unless indicated otherwise

at no charge to patients or their loved ones. Each session is specifically
tailored to the needs of the individual based upon a brief interview

that enables people to remain fully clothed and upright during the
session. There are special cushions available to ensure a comfortable
experience for all, including people who have a chest port or other

Healing Harp
Margaret Stephens, BM, CTHP (Certified Harp Practitioner)
The harp produces music that can aid the healing process of body,
mind, and spirit. It has been used as a healing instrument for
thousands of years. Today there is ongoing research into the beneficial
effects of sound and vibration on the human body.
Available on Thursdays from 9:45am– 12:45pm in all
waiting areas at Lebanon’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
Our harpist also visits DHMC inpatients on Friday mornings.
Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ‘RAY-key’) is a healing arts technique originating in
Japan. Through gentle hands-on healing, Reiki treats the whole person
—body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Reiki is given through a gentle
touch or can be performed without the use of touch. While the client
is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the practitioner’s hands are
placed along energy centers and pathways on the head, shoulders,
upper chest, abdomen, legs, and feet. This may create beneficial effects
including a sense of relaxation, a feeling of peace, and well-being.
CAPS Program (*)
The Cancer and Patient Services Program is staffed by student
volunteers from Dartmouth College who travel to homes within 60
miles of Hanover to assist individuals and families affected by cancer.
They lend a hand helping with household chores, such as raking
leaves, shoveling snow, moving furniture, or food shopping.
Call (603) 650-7751 to request a visit.
Comfort Cart on Wheels
Through the generous donations of the DHMC Auxiliary and Hypertherm
Cares Fund, as well as grateful patients and families, our Comfort Cart on
Wheels can be seen in the Lebanon 2K and 3K waiting areas, the Infusion
Suite, and on the DHMC inpatient floor. Our dedicated and friendly staff
of volunteers bring a warm smile as well as snacks, donated hats, and
other comfort care items to help make your time at Norris Cotton Cancer
Center more enjoyable.
