Queens Village, NY- Cubs for Coping held its second volunteer event at the Hollis Woods
Community Church on Saturday April 19, 2014. Attendees learned how to create handmade
teddy bears at this event, which was open to the public. All of the wonderful creations will be
donated to a children’s hospital in New York. Similar to the first event back in January, people
united to support the cause of spreading hope, creativity, and volunteerism. Anyone was
welcome to participate and learn how to make a bear for donation. Over 30 people attended
and over 50 teddy bears were created.
About Cubs for Coping - Cubs for Coping is a non-profit organization that
holds volunteer events to create handmade teddy bears for children and teens in
hospitals, homeless shelters, and eating disorder programs.
The organization was founded by Nicole Javorsky who
was hospitalized for anorexia at age 14. She was scared and
lonely in the hospital, but the stuffed animals she received
from her loved ones cheered her up. This experience
inspired her to start Cubs for Coping two years ago at age
16.
The handmade bears help young people dealing with
stress or going through a tough time in their lives.
Each teddy bear brings smiles and makes a difference by
showing each young individual that people care about them. Every teddy bear is unique
because they are sewn and decorated by different volunteers. Everything is personalized and the
bears can range from a chef teddy bear to a superhero teddy bear. The volunteer events
empower people to use their creativity for good and allow them to have a great time while
doing something that gives back to the community.
