About
Lloyd Loom
In the early 19th Century, hand weaved wicker and rattan furniture had
become increasingly popular throughout Europe and the USA, but it was slow
and expensive to manufacture.
In 1917, an American called Marshall B. Lloyd invented a loom that produced a
new weave fabric - kraft paper twisted around a steel wire - and in a quarter of
the time. Soon, traditional rattan, cane and willow materials that snagged and
broke were left behind and replaced with the new strong, smooth ‘Lloyd Loom
weave’.
Due to its classic looks and durability, Lloyd Loom quickly became the
furniture of choice in the British hotel industry in the 1930’s. Before long, Lloyd
Loom tables and chairs graced high profile sporting venues such as Henley,
Wimbledon and Twickenham, followed by the floorboards of ocean liners, royal
yachts and recognised tea-rooms across the country.
Today, genuine Lloyd Loom furniture is still renowned for its durability, comfort
and timeless elegance. Lloyd Loom outlives fashion trends and follows you
from home to home, becoming an intrinsic part of your past and a well-loved
heirloom for your future.
Lloyd Loom by James Brindley takes the traditional Lloyd Loom durability and
style and combines it with a team of experienced designers to refine and
enhance the furniture for modern day living.
The collection includes classic armchairs, stylish sofas, elegant dining chairs and
sturdy tables that are made using the traditional skills of twisting kraft paper
around steel wires. Each piece is individually handmade in England on solid
beech frames by expert craftsmen and upholstered in high quality fabrics from
James Brindley.
Lloyd Loom by James Brindley offers a comprehensive choice of weave colours
and fabrics with the option to colour match with a full range of complimentary
wood furniture. The collection can be beautifully placed in most interior
schemes, from kitchens and dining areas to living rooms and conservatories.
