Crawford Preparatory Sandton Tuesday, 14 April 2015 Newsletter no. 11/2015 WELCOME: Although the chill in the air indicates that summer days will soon be over, we welcome everyone at the commencement of the Autumn and Winter term of 11 weeks and hope that an enjoyable and successful term lies ahead. WELCOME: We extend a warm welcome to our new administrator, Ms Nosipho Maseko. We wish her a long and happy association with our school. MINI COUNCIL BLANKET APPEAL: The Johannesburg Mini Council is well-known for its endeavours at collecting knitted squares which are used to make blankets for distribution to the needy during the cold winter months. Our school has always supported this endeavour with great enthusiasm and we hope that this year’s attempts will surpass all previous efforts. We would ask all parents, grandparents, aunts, teachers and pupils to start knitting. Squares should be 20cm x 20cm . Use double-knit wool and size 4.5mm needles; cast on one stitch Increase 1 stitch at the beginning of every row (you will see a triangle shape appearing) Continue increasing until the side measures 20cm. This will be approximately 50 stitches, depending on your knitting tension Now knit 2 together at the beginning of every row until you have 1 stitch remaining on the needle. Fasten off and start your next square! Squares may be knitted or crocheted, using any colour wool. Do your bit for charity and knit, knit, knit! Those who don’t wish to knit are welcome to donate a blanket instead. KNITTING FOR A GOOD CAUSE OUR WINTER SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT The cut-off day for blankets to be handed in will be Tuesday, 23 June. CONGRATULATIONS: We extend hearty congratulations to Ms Ilze Miller (Grade 3W) who got married during the holidays.
