Principal’s Message
As the weather warms, the
season for outdoor sport
activities begins. Many
students are involved in
evening events and outdoor
play after a long winter
indoors. We have many
activities planned throughout
May to support active
participation and healthy
habits. Ms. Taylor has
organized a wellness month to
include daily healthy living tips
and events throughout the
month. Students in grades 2-5
can choose to run with
marathon club on Tuesdays
and Thursdays at lunch. This
group of students will
participate in a mini-marathon
day with Lakewood school in
June. We have purchased
new playground equipment
for the students to support
games such as tennis,
badminton and four square.
Our community club kindly
created 4 mini soccer fields to
support smaller groups of
students to play organized
games. We are estimating we
will break ground for our new
playground development in
2016. Plans for this new play
area development will be
shared with the community in
the fall of 2015. We thank our
Parent Council for their support
towards our goal. Until our
new playground is complete,
we will support play and
physical development as best
we can.

how to play” – Ralph Waldo

From the Music Room
May 4th was National MUSIC MONDAY! Music Monday is the world’s largest single event
dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of
students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nationwide concert
performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist.
http://www.musicmonday.ca/
This year, Crestview Choir participated in the ‘Family of Schools Concert’ with a celebration
of the arts on Monday, May 4th at John Taylor Collegiate. It was great to see so many
parents come out and support our Crestview Singers!
April was national Music Month and students wrote some personal reflections about what
music means to them along with some hand crafted avatars to go with our Mind Craft
Theme this month! Music Crafts Your Mind!
More information will be going home soon about some upcoming community music events
happening at the school! Stay tuned for more information!
Thank you for your continued support in the music program at Crestview!

Literacy Links
Do you have a child entering Kindergarten this fall? If so, Literacy Links is for you!
Literacy Links is a FREE summer literacy program in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division
that supports parents in understanding how to develop a positive literacy environment in
the home setting and make the important links between home and school.
A literacy facilitator will:
• contact families and arrange four home visits at mutually acceptable times.
• demonstrate and provide developmentally appropriate and enriching activities that
focus on daily reading and writing, environmental print, math activities and rhyming
games.

provide a home package of materials that include literacy information, guides, books,
activities and games.
The program runs from
Mid May until the end of August.
To register, please email literacylinks@sjsd.net
or call 204-885-1334 ext. 2352.
