Congratulations Triathletes,
Our Caveman Triathlon in Flower Mound Texas has become a great annual
event growing year after year. It is by far not primitive with some of the best
triathletes hitting the Flower Mound streets. The distance is FAST for the
experienced athlete and just right for the beginner.
This booklet contains all the information you will need to know prior to,
during, and after the Caveman Sprint Triathlon post race festivities and more.

Important Parking Information
Parking is first come, first served, starting with the Flower Mound Community
Activity Center's parking lot and baseball fields lot, and then a short walk from
the race site at the warehouse building parking lots at the Southwest Corner of
the intersection of Spinks Road and Gerault Road.

It is the responsibility of each competitor to know the courses
Remember to Swim on the right side of each swim lane
Bike Course is open to traffic but will have one lane coned off for safety
On the bike, remember to pass only on the left and ride to the right
Run course is an out and back one loop course that finishes in front of
the Flower Mound Community Activity Center Natatorium.
• Dallas Athletes Racing will take every precaution to ensure the course is
marked and turn marshals are present.
Race Day Weather
• The race will be held rain or shine. Be prepared for all weather
conditions. Please note Race officials may cancel, delay or change the
race to a non-scored event in case of extreme weather or other
conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. In
the event of cancellation, no refunds will be issued.
Restrooms
• Port-o-lets will be available near the transition area. Indoor restrooms
facilities and locker rooms will be inside the Flower Mound Community
Activity Center.

Caveman Transition Area (Opens 5:45)
Notes: Transition and body marking will be open at 5:45 am and
closes at 6:45 am. Place bike and other transition items in the
appropriate spot according to the number on the end of the racks.

Caveman Swim Course (275 yards)
Notes: All athletes will be staged in the Gym and the released to line
up at the pool in groups. This will allow for the pool not to be over
crowded and you can relax before your time to start.

Caveman Bike Course – 14 Miles
Notes: The bike starts in the Community Activity Center and proceeds to
Spinks Road where you will do 2 laps before returning to Gerault Road and
the Community Activity Center for the finish of the bike. The mount and
dismount lines will be on the entrance drive of the Community Activity
Center
Caveman 5K Run Map
Notes: The run course is on the trail system around the Flower Mound
Community Activity Center sports complex. It finishes in front of the
Community Activity Center.
USAT Most Common Violated Rules
1. Membership/Permit Requirements. All participants in sanctioned USAT events must be USAT
members and present a valid annual membership card or purchase a USAT single event permit.
2. Age Group Competition: All age group athletes must compete in the age group corresponding to
your age on December 31. Weight Class Division: If offered, Clydesdale (men) minimum weight is
220 pounds and Athena (women) is165 pounds. Participants are not eligible to compete in both a
weight class and an age group at the same event.
3. Helmets: Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be
used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means
before, during, and after the event.
Penalty: Disqualification

Chin Straps: Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your
chin strap unless you are off your bicycle.
Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty in transition area only.
5.
Outside Assistance: No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be
used. Triathlons are individual tests of fitness.

6.
Abandonment: All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the
athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course.

7.
Transition Area: All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned
bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All
participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No
person shall interfere with another participant’s equipment or impede the progress of another
participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers
into the transition area.

Drafting: Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in
front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds. Position--keep to the right hand
side of the lane of travel unless passing. Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing
anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass. Overtaken--once passed, you must
immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again.

Entire Course: Participants must cover the prescribed course in its entirety. It is the participant’s
responsibility to know the course. Traffic Laws: All participants must obey all traffic laws while on
the cycling course unless otherwise specifically directed by a USA Triathlon official, race monitor or
designee with actual authority.

10. Audio Devices: Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices,
etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race. Cyclists may carry a cell phone for
emergencies stored in a tool bag and in the off position. Participants who use a phone must step
off the course and make no forward progress while on the phone. The use of a phone while
walking or running shall result in a penalty. No phone may be used or carried if the device is
capable of playing music. Phones may not be mounted on the handlebars

11. Race numbers: All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run.
Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut
or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or
take a number from an athlete that is not competing.
Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number, Disqualification and
one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without
race director permission.
11. Wetsuits: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without
penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water
temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78
degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit
at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within
such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees,
wetsuits are prohibited.
12. Bottom Contact and Resting. A participant may stand on the bottom or rest by holding
an inanimate object such as a buoy, boat, rope or floating object. Excluding the bottom, a
participant shall not use any inanimate object to gain forward progress.
13. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct: Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other
unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers,
spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden.
