Join Donald E. Pease, the Ted and Helen Geisel Third Century Professor in the Humanities and
chair of the Master of Arts in liberal studies program, for a discussion on the ways in which
Dartmouth's new teaching and learning technologies have changed his teaching and learning – for
the better.
9–10 a.m. Enhancing Engineering in Medicine: Students, Research, and Infrastructures Spanos Auditorium, Cummings Hall,Thayer School of Engineering Featuring Brian W. Pogue, professor of engineering; director, M.S. and Ph.D. programs; professor
of physics & astronomy, Dartmouth College; professor of surgery, Geisel School of Medicine. With the rapid expansion of the Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth is emerging as a leader
in bringing together the liberal arts and engineering, a partnership that is enabling innovative
research. Learn about the research being conducted by Dartmouth’s Optics in Medicine Lab,
which is creating new, non-invasive cancer imaging techniques through research-based programs,
as well as the imaging techniques being implemented at Dartmouth’s new Center for Surgical

Featuring Trip Davis ’90, executive director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology
Transfer, and the College’s director of entrepreneurship Jamie Coughlin. Connect in the new and
inspirational Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network (DEN) Innovation Center with other Dartmouth
alumni innovators, entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs and investors and learn about the many
ways that the DEN fosters and promotes entrepreneurship among alumni, students, faculty and
others from all across the Dartmouth community.

Meet at the Baker Library Information Desk.
Self-guided visit. 150 free tickets will be distributed beginning at 1 pm in numbered groups of
10. Groups will take the tour in order of their group number from 1–3 pm. Each tour will take
approximately 10 minutes to ascend, take in the beautiful views, and descend. This is a hands free
experience – each person must be able to navigate many steep steps and a ladder on his/her own.

Navigating College Admissions: A Workshop for Families

Ideally, students should start planning for college early in their high school career, ensuring a
comprehensive plan for their high school courses and extracurricular activities. This workshop is
designed to familiarize parents and their college-bound children in grades 9–11 with the national
college admission process. Registration is required for this very popular program. If you have any

Geisel Lecture: Dartmouth’s Impact in East Africa–Developing Human Capital for
Sustainable Health

Lisa Adams, MD, Geisel ’90, associate professor of medicine, associate professor of community
and family medicine, and associate dean for global health.
John Sloan Dickey ’29 impressed upon his students that “The world’s troubles are your
troubles...and there is nothing wrong with the world that better human beings cannot fix.” Dr.
Adams will discuss ways in which Dartmouth and Geisel faculty and students took these words to
heart and put them into action. Dr. Adams will share how students, faculty, and international
partners in countries such as Rwanda and Tanzania are strengthening health care systems, training
future physicians, and developing a new vaccine against tuberculosis.

Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies Eng-Beng Lim, author of Brown Boys and
Rice Queens, will discuss his latest work. His book recently received two national awards, one
from the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the CUNY Grad Center, and the other from the
Association of Asian American Studies.
