Grandson of Rep. Foxx
charged with drug offense
BY JOHN HINTON
Winston-Salem Journal
The grandson of U.S. Rep.Virginia Foxx,
R-5th, was arrested last month on a drug
charge, authorities said Friday.
Kenan Thomas Foxx, 16, of Rosebay
Way in Banner Elk was charged May 28
with one count of sale and delivery of a
Schedule II controlled substance, according to Boone police records. Foxx turned
himself in to the Watauga County magistrate’s office in Boone, the records show.
A school resource officer at Watauga
High School in Boone is involved in the
case, the records show.
Under state law, Schedule II drugs include painkillers such as opium, codeine,
hydrocodone, morphine and oxycodone.
The records didn’t specify the drugs in the
allegations against Kenan Foxx.
The teenager was taken to the Watau-
WSSU
ga County Jail with his bond set at $5,000,
according to police records. He answered
the phone at his home Friday.
“I am not allowed to talk about this,”
Kenan Foxx said.
His attorney, Austin Eggers of Boone,
couldn’t be reached for comment.
Virginia Foxx issued a statement Friday
through her Washington, D.C., office regarding her grandson.
“A matter involving my grandson is being dealt with by the school system and
the courts,” Foxx said. “It is a family matter and does not involve me as a public official in any way.
“I love my grandson dearly. As any concerned grandmother would, I will love
and support him during this very difficult
time in his life.”

spokeswoman, said that
the university likely would
borrow the money to buy
the stadium.
Last year, the WinstonSalem City Council passed
a resolution of intent to sell
Bowman Gray Stadium to
WSSU.
The university wants to
buy the stadium and the
approximately 92 acres surrounding it and will play its
home football games there.
WSSU held its commencement ceremony in the stadium for the first time last
month.
Winston-Salem Speedway Inc. will continue to
stage NASCAR races at the
stadium.
Officials with the State
Property Office have inspected the stadium property, the city has said.
In other business, WSSU’s plan to consolidate

their consent for state land
transactions.
“The process is moving, but it is not over yet,”
Reaves said.
Gov. Pat McCrory had
told Reaves that he supported WSSU buying the
stadium from the city.
However, the project had
gotten delayed in the governor’s office, Reaves said.
After the meeting, trustee Charles Wright said he
called McCrory’s chief of
staff, Thomas Stith, to discuss the stadium project.
“I told the chief of staff,
‘Hey, we got to get this item
a little push,’” Wright said.
“It was as simple as that,
and they accommodated
us.”
Nancy Young, a WSSU
two of its schools into the
newly created College of
Arts, Sciences, Business and
Education will begin July 1,
Provost Brenda Allen told
the trustees. The measure is
designed to save the school
about $1.2 million a year.
“Everyone is prepared to
move forward,” Allen said
of the WSSU administrators and faculty members.
In another matter, trustee Charles Wallington told
the board that WSSU has
created a health and wellness task force on campus.
The school also has hired
Dr.Wynne Browne, aWSSU
alumna, as the medical director of its wellness center
and Dr. Tara Kompare as its
pharmacist, he said.
“They will work to keep
our students healthy,” Wallington said.
