FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dead Freddies Group to Acquire and Operate De Lazy Lizard Ocean City, Maryland – April 15, 2015 – Locally‐owned waterfront bar and grill, de Lazy Lizard on 1st Street in Ocean City, will be undergoing some exciting changes over the next month. The owners of Dead Freddies Island Grill on 64th Street in Ocean City have purchased de Lazy Lizard and will be opening the restaurant at the beginning of May for the season. “We are excited for the opportunity to acquire such an amazing property, right on the water with a marina where boats can pull up to dine, an open‐air tiki bar, a large indoor restaurant seating area, and a fun outdoor playground area for the children,” stated one of the new owners, Stephen Carullo. Although there is very little time left to make many large‐scale cosmetic changes to the property, there will be substantial improvements made to back‐end infrastructure and food quality. “There are some really fun things we can do with the menu to improve food quality and increase foodservice. These are items that have always been of importance to us at Dead Freddies, and we will be bringing that now to de Lazy Lizard. We are currently implementing some of these items and we think that the menu improvements will be the showcase of this season. Next season, we will have a number of cosmetic and building improvements that guests will be able to enjoy as well,” Carullo mentioned. Corporate Executive Chef Mitch Cook will be overseeing the implementation of the new menu at de Lazy Lizard, as well as the execution of the new dishes there. “We will be applying a lot of the quality control and process improvement items that have been successful at Dead Freddies, here at the Lizard. Food quality and service times will be greatly improved once these measures have been fully implemented, “said Cook. Previous owner of de Lazy Lizard, Todd Hays, mentioned that he will now be focusing on a number of other business ventures, including a popular and award‐winning brewery and distillery, a bakery with locally‐baked fresh items, and a surfing machine right here in Ocean City. “Wayne and I are excited for Steve and his group, and think that they are outstanding operators,” stated Hays. “We’re looking forward to seeing all of the improvements that they make over the next couple of seasons.” The improved menu this season will feature seafood and some classics, as well as unique dining options. De Lazy Lizard has over 100 parking spaces available right at the end of 1st Street as you are approaching the bay that make it convenient when visiting the popular waterfront spot.
