Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2015 NAAAP-DFW High School Scholarship
1. Do I have to be Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander to apply for this Scholarship?
Yes. You are eligible to apply for the scholarship if (1) at least one of your biological parents or
grandparents is of Asian/Pacific Islander descent as defined by the U.S. Census; and (2) you
meet all other eligibility criteria.
2. Will financial need be an important factor in this scholarship?
Many factors are considered in the application review process. Financial need is one factor;
other important factors include academic achievements, community leadership, and work
experience. To be competitive for the scholarship, please prepare the best possible application.
3. If I do not have leadership experience, how can I compensate?
Leadership does not need a title; leadership is about taking initiative and inspiring others to make
a positive change. Consider what you have done in the past to make a difference at school,
community, or work.
4. May I provide other information (for example, portfolio or DVD) to demonstrate my
achievements or talents?
No. Please provide the required information in the format stated in the instructions. Although we
would love to see and to listen to your works, secondary information will not be considered as
part of the application.
5. If I do not follow the instructions, will my application be considered?
No. Applications that do not follow the provided instructions (for example, submission deadline,
text format, or word length) will not be considered.
6. Why are the recipients required to attend the NAAAP-DFW Awards Gala?
Attending the Awards Gala serves two major purposes: it allows NAAAP-DFW to introduce the
Scholarship recipients to the community, and it gives the scholarship recipients an opportunity to
network among many different professionals.
7. What if I have more questions about the NAAAP-DFW Scholarship?
If you have further questions, please contact Joann Stokes, NAAAP-DFW Scholarship Chair
at scholarship@naaapdfw.org.
