In Remembrance of Richard N. “Dick” Holloway dmaDetroit’s 19th President By David Marold for dmaDetroit Richard N. “Dick” Holloway died peacefully at his home in Bingham Farms on April 19, 2015 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean. While Dick wanted to be laid to rest next to Jean without ceremony, the family decided to hold a visitation on Friday, May 15 from 11am to 1pm at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. http://www.mccabefuneralhome.com/obituaries/details/1454 While he was five years too young to be called a member of the Greatest Generation, they don’t make them like Dick Holloway anymore. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Dearborn, he served his country in the United States Army with service in the Philippines. He joined R. L. Polk & Co, one of the largest direct marketing firms in the country and ultimately reached the second highest level in the Marketing Services Division as Senior VP, Assistant General Manager. He concluded his career as VP, assistant General Manager of Government Relations. He was a member of the DMA and served on the Privacy Task Force. Dick was our 19th president from 1978-1979 and was arguably the most influential person on the club in DMAD history. He was DMAD’s first recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” and his support of DMAD was shown as four past presidents worked for him at Polk: John Smith, David Marold, Robert Breese and Karen Surma. Duane Dub also was a Polk employee. At one time in the late 80’s and early 90’s Polk had over 80 DMAD members with Dick’s support. Education was important to Dick and he served as the first chair of the Past Presidents’ Educational Group. Dick also returned to the board by appointment to assist the club in 2002-2003. Dick’s history of service in professional and community affairs is a hard one to match. He was chapter president and national convention chairman of the U. S. Jaycees, Village President of Bingham Farms, president of a Jaycee Alumni group and an elected trustee of Southfield Township until his death. The dmaDetroit is incredibly grateful for Dick Holloway’s service and we are honoring his memory with a contribution to the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. http://www.alz.org/gmc/
