Volume 27 issue 5 May 2015 Dolphin Chapter of FMCA Chartered: 3-9-89 Newsletter for the Dolphin Motorhome Club THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The recent water cuts ordered by our Governor is another reason to be on the road enjoying this beautiful State of ours while the plants, groves, and landscape are still green Agriculture accounts for numerous jobs and supports farms and ranches throughout the State. Hopefully our elected officials get their act together and will not cut back on water usage without a viable alternative such as desalinization. It is clearly visible when we visit lakes, streams, rivers, and reservoirs that the water is not there. Anne and I have been receiving on the average one call a month from people looking for a Dolphin, asking where the manufacture’s registration number is located, where can operating manuals be obtained, and how to join the club. Calls have come from coast to coast. Most calls are from folks looking for a Dolphin based on the reputation of National. We attended the Yuma Rally at the Shangri-LA RV Resort hosted by PJ Giammaria/ Marilyn Ryding, and Tom/Dorry Valdez. This was their first rally and they did an excellent job. The weather was great and people were seen going in different directions. An evening get together with refreshments and good company, as well as nightly card games were well attended. Mexico was visited for dental work, prescription glasses, adult liquid refreshments, medical prescriptions, and food. The Territory Prison and the Army Quartermaster, both closed for some time offered tours to take you back in time. Did you know that the Quartermaster is located on a large river, and supplies arrived by ship for distribution through the Quartermaster to Army troops and Indians. Anne participated in Lung Stem Cell Therapy just prior to our trip to Yuma. It consisted of drawing 30 cc of her blood, treating it to reduce to stem cells and reinserting with plasma in an IV into Anne. This procedure was carried out for three days and then we drove home from Scottsdale. The stem cells will reproduce and work to repair Anne’s damaged COPD lungs. We should know in 3-6 months whether the procedure worked ( Jul-Oct). On our way home from Yuma we stopped at a rest stop. A gentleman came running over to our RV waving his hands which had something in them. We did not know what to expect. To our surprise he had two wood carvings of dolphins that he wished to pass on to a Dolphin owner. He had a Dolphin before his wife of 46 years passed away. He purchased a class C RV, and we were the first Dolphin coach since her passing. I keep saying we are a Dolphin family. Our next club function is being held at the Pismo Coast RV Resort. This is a very popular location so if you have not done so, make your reservation with Dave Smith or Sandy Mayor our Trail Bosses. Please think of running for office in our club. It would be great to have several names for each position. Unfortunately my name is spelled incorrectly in our roster under President and my E-mail is missing the number 1. My correct E-mail is vcleon1@yahoo.com. Please correct your roster. Leon, Anne, and Miley The Dolphin Club...26 years and still going strong! THE VICE-PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello Fellow Dolphin Club Members Summer is right around the corner, and we need to continue working to prepare our coaches for a summer of travel. In this edition I will list the basic items that need attention in all coaches, both gas and diesel. Before I do, however, I need to see if any of you might be interested in taking over the position of Webmaster. I have finished my CTE teaching credential and will be looking for a full-time teaching position with the ROP Program this fall. In addition, I’m still working on my Master’s Degree in Education and my Frank Sinatra/Rat Pack performances are in full swing (pardon my pun). Unless someone knows how to get more hours out of the day, I have to let something go. I can provide full instruction to anyone interested in doing so, and I will be fully available to assist and answer questions. Your VP - Steve Justice DOLPHIN CLUB MEMBER TO HAVE SURGERY Hi guys, the short version is I am going to have bypass surgery next Wed. When taking my morning walks and heading up hill, I was having a low burning in my sternum. After an angioplasty last Tue. it was determined that I had too many blockages for stents to correct the problem. Here in San Diego, Kaiser has all their cardiac surgery done at Scripps Hospital. I expect to be there a week and then home for 4 to 6 weeks recuperation. Thanks, Howard Stofer I received an e mail from Kathy Mitchell today 4/29/15. “Howard’s out of surgery—-all went well. That is all I know for now, it’s enough!!! I know we are all happy and relieved to hear that” Dave Smith—editor Dolphins Club Web Site - http://www.dolphinclub.com The Dolphin Splash—Page 2 MEMBERSHIP NEW MEMBER PATRICIA KOKESH MARK SABA 1990 CAMINO REDONDO LOS ALAMOS, NM 87544-2725 PHONE 505-662-7548 HOME PHONE 505-695-3017 CELL 1996 DOLPHIN CORRECTIONS FOR THE DOLPHINS MEMBERSHIP ROSTER BOOK PRESIDENT—LEON SCHWARTZ EMAIL vcleon1@yahoo.com SECRETARY—LYNN MAYER EMAIL lrwm1@cox.net SPLASH EDITOR—DAVE & SANDY SMITH EMAIL sndsmith1@msn.com OFFICERS & BOARD President Vice President Secretary Treasurer National Dir. The Dolphin Club's rally in Yuma was held April 16 - 19 at the Shangri-La R. V. Park. Hosted by first-time Wagon Masters PJ Giammaria and Marilyn Ryding and Tom and Dorry Valdez, we had a great time. It was a relatively small group; with 15 rigs, the plus was that it gave everyone an opportunity to get to know one another better. Quite a few people arrived a day early, stayed a day late, or both. This was the first time that the Shangri-La R.V. Park had played host to a group, and they were terrific, with a well-equipped kitchen and community rooms, and friendly and helpful staff. Popular attractions included crossing the border into Mexico at Algodonez, known for discounts on dental and vision care as well as prescriptions. Old town Yuma and the Civil War era territorial prison offered some sight-seeing opportunities. The competition was fierce at the shuffle-board tournament, and on Saturday, Marilyn and Dorry led a garden flag-making craft project. And of course, what Dolphin rally would be complete without card games in the evening with Suzanne and Steve Justice proving helpful instruction for the novices. Between Thursday's Happy Hour (including cake to celebrate Marilyn's 60th birthday), the Friday evening Mexican fiesta dinner, and Saturday's pot-luck, we all put on a few pounds, but it was worth it! As for us Wagon-Masters, we enjoyed the whole experience and learned a lot, including how to better estimate how much wine we needed to buy! (FYI, we'll have unused red and white to bring to Pismo!) Happy travels to all, PJ, Marilyn, Tom and Dorry Best regards, Marilyn This photo taken by Leon Schwartz.
