Accident Victim Speaks to Need for Adequate Insurance
Fortunately, Brent recovered from his injuries, but he had a ton of medical bills. Since
the other driver wasn’t caught, there was no insurance to cover those medical bills,
and what was worse, Brent didn’t have uninsured motorist coverage to help with the
medical bills, which left him with insurmountable debt. He had to file bankruptcy. No
one ever explained to Brent the importance of having uninsured or underinsured
motorist coverage.
Most people think they will never be hit by a driver who doesn’t have insurance, but it
happens a lot more than you think. An ambulance ride, x-rays, CT scan or MRI, and
physical therapy can easily eat up the state minimum coverage of $25,000. If a driver
who hits you has the minimum coverage, or none at all, who will pay your medical
bills?
Brent’s story speaks to the importance of uninsured (UM) and underinsured (UIM)
motorist coverage. Without the proper coverage, you can be ruined financially.

How Much UM/UIM Coverage Do You Need? Having at least $100,000 per person
and $300,000 per accident is the minimum we recommend, but it’s not that expensive
to get $250,000/$500,000.
How Much Does It Cost? Depending on your driving record and a few other factors,
adding UM/UIM insurance could be as little as $8.00 per month.
Why Do I Need It? Simply call your insurance company, or go online to manage your
policy and choose the coverage you’d like to add. You can always fax a copy of your
policy to us and we will give you a complimentary evaluation of your coverage.

It would be great if every kid could experience traveling
to see new places. Sometimes, though, that isn’t always
easy. I know for myself growing up, times were hard for
my family, and vacations to new places were few.
Luckily, we have a great program here in Douglasville,
led by Kascia Lipford from Beyond the Front Porch.
It’s a non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged
teens experience and enjoy fun field trips that take them
beyond their immediate surroundings, like the Georgia
Aquarium. I feel very privileged to support Beyond the
Front Porch.
