We are delighted to welcome you to Constanta, a beautiful city on the Black Sea Coast and the
second largest metropolitan area in Romania. Once you have landed on Henry Coanda
International Airport (http://www.bucharestairports.ro/en) in Bucharest, you have the
following options to get to Constanta:
1. By shuttle van
The shuttle van operator we recommend is ALT Transport. It offers door-to-door rides from
Bucharest Airport to Constanta, at the destination address of your choice. To request a ride in an 8 person van you need to send an email in English to office@alt-transportpersoane.ro. Do not forget
to specify your landing information (date, hour, flight number) and your destination in Constanta (e.g.
the name of the hotel). Please remember to send this email at least 48 hours before your arrival in
Bucharest. You will receive their confirmation email in the next 24 hours with instructions regarding
the meeting point where the van driver will collect you. (If you wish, you can make reservations for
the return ride as well.) As a rule, the van driver carrying a cardboard sign Alt Transport awaits the
prospective passengers on the international arrivals lounge, on your right upon the exit by the flower
shop. The fare is 80 ron (approx $20/ €19) one way. We recommend you make prior arrangements to
have Romanian currency on you. We recommend this door-to-door option as the most
convenient.
2. By train
Constanţa is connected by railway with all Romanian city centers. There are daily departures from
Bucharest to Constanţa (and return) all day, at different hours. The Romanian railway public
company is CFR (http://www.cfr.ro/). You can buy the ticket online or at the railway station. A
return ticket costs about 120 ron ($29/€28), a one-way ticket is half of it. The easiest way to get from
the airport to the railway station is by cab. Expect to pay around 40 ron (approx $10/€9) for the cab
ride. Again, we strongly recommend you have Romanian currency at hand.
3. By car
Reaching Constanţa by car is the fastest way if you go on the motorways: the A2 motorway starts
from Bucharest and ends at Constanţa (the distance is 224 km, you can reach Constanţa in 2 ½
hours). This is most comfortable way to reach Constanta, but when choosing this option, you are
expected to make your own arrangements. Also know that upon crossing the bridge at Fetesti, a 13
ron toll (approx $4/€3) is required. A cab from Bucharest to Constanta will charge you $110/€100
euro.
4. By bus
The bus terminus in Bucharest is close to the North Train Station, (Str. Baldovin Pârcălabul Nr. 2,
behind the Ministry of Transport); in Constanța you will arrive at the train station. Buses usually
leave to and from Constanța every 45 minutes and take 3 hours and 30 minutes to arrive
(http://www.autogari.ro/Transport/Bucuresti-Constanta). Please use Romanian currency to pay
the 55 ron fare (approx $14/€13). From the railway station take a cab to get to your hotel. Expect to
pay about 20 ron (approx. $5/€5) for the cab ride to the hotel. Make sure that you opt for one of the
following cab companies: ‘Romaris’ (phone number: 0241 690000), ‘Sageata’ (phone number: 0241
638000), ‘General Taxi’ (phone number: 0241 617844). We strongly encourage you to use the
recommended cab companies and avoid “eager” cab drivers who will approach you directly.
Further advice:
Please know that our cost specifications are based on the currency rate dollar/euro-ron at the
date of posting this information. Fluctuations in the rate are likely to lead to changes in the
transportation fares mentioned. Upon making arrangements for traveling, please consider this aspect
and allow for a reasonable margin. When travelling by car, bus or train, only payment in Romanian
currency is accepted. You can exchange money upon arrival on the airport or at the railway station.
There are a few ATMs and exchange offices. For exchange rates, see the official site of the National
Bank of Romania (http://www.bnr.ro/Cursul-de-schimb-524.aspx).
