Summer Leadership Institute: Engaging in Critical Dialogue Application Applications for the 2015 Summer Leadership Institute: Engaging in Critical Dialogue are now being accepted through May 8, 2015. The Educational Leadership Research Center (ELRC), directed by Dr. Beverly J. Irby and within the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development (EAHR), College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is to host the CEHD Summer Leadership Institute: Engaging in Critical Dialogue beginning summer 2015. Mission and Purpose The CEHD Summer Leadership Institute: Engaging in Critical Dialogue’s primary goals are to: (1) Create opportunities to build capacity within the college to positively impact learning, communication, engagement, and work, (2) Build individual leadership capacity through effective and strategic conflict engagement and management (3) Build departmental and college capacity in the area of communication, conflict management, leadership, and critical dialogues, (4) determine the value added of creating an outreach opportunity to the University in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Diversity (VPD), and (5) collaboratively, with VPD, determine the need and value added of creating a national presence for the leadership capacity building institute. The Summer Leadership Institute: Engaging in Critical Dialogue activities will be coordinated by Dr. Nancy Watson, Assistant Dean for Organizational Development and Diversity Initiatives for CEHD and Consultant for the Texas A&M VPD Critical Dialogues Program. The program will include a 4-day intensive curriculum. Participants are required to apply to participate in the program. Additionally, the four CEHD departments and the dean’s office will nominate and offer fellowships to the program participants. Fellowship Nominations Each team (4 participants + 1 Dean/Department Head) creates one nomination packet for submission. All participants, other than Dean/Department Heads, will receive a $500 stipend from the ELRC for participating in the SLI. Criteria for Participation Each Department should consider who best comprises its team. It is suggested each team include the Dean/Department Head, two faculty (one academic professional and one tenured/tenure track faculty member), one staff member, and one program leader. Consideration of the chosen team participants should be related to the team’s overall interest in participating in the SLI program and the team’s challenge statement. 1 Application Process and Contents One application packet per team should be submitted through the Department Head Nomination packets should include: a. Professional Challenge Statement: i. What do you believe are the two major challenges facing your unit and the achievement of its strategic planning goals? d. Organization and Team Characteristics: i. What is the rationale for choosing the members of your unit/department’s team? ii. What roles do you envision each member playing in your unit/department’s dialogue and leadership efforts? e.
