Dear Parents/Caregivers
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE WITH ON-LINE
TECHNOLOGIES ?
CYBERSAFETY INFORMATION EVENING FOR PARENTS – WEDNESDAY 20
MAY 7PM
Our children are growing up in a technological world which provides many opportunities for
learning, social contact, accessibility of the global environment - to name a few of the
benefits. However, there are challenges and cautions with online technologies that parents
need to be aware of and informed about in order to keep their children safe. Di Leonard
and Dave Hunter (Counsellor and Principal, Taieri College) will provide an overview of
cybersafety, digital citizenship, online technologies and how to maximise the safety and
wellbeing of children in our community. Wednesday 20 May at 7pm, East Taieri School.
WELCOME
We welcome Vicki Thorburn to our staff as she
starts in Room 12 with a New Entrant class
today. We also welcome Jesse-Alan Taylor into
Room 12.
EAST TAIERI CHURCH CARPARK – NOT FOR SCHOOL USE FROM TOMORROW
The East Taieri Church is hosting a conference from Tuesday 19-21 May. It would
be appreciated if parents did not park in the carpark during this time. Thank you.
HEART FOUNDATION
We are having our Jump Rope for Heart Day on Friday 29 May. Children are reminded
about getting sponsorship cards filled.
GRANDPARENTS’ MORNING
Despite the weather, we had a great turn-out
of grandparents joining their grandchildren in
classes and at Discovery Time activities last
Friday.
HELPERS WANTED
The Home and School Committee are looking for helpers not as committee members, but as
friends of the H&S who can help out on occasions throughout the year.
Contact Janna Begley. jannabegley@gmail.com or 02108148315.
TISSUES WANTED
It is getting to that time of year of runny noses and colds. We would appreciate
donations of boxes of tissues. Please drop them into the office. Thank you.
HEAD LICE
Head lice are out and about again! Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat.
WOOL WANTED
Yellow and blue wool is needed for Discovery Time. Children are making pom poms. Please
bring the wool to Room 8. Thank you.
ART GALLERY VISITS
Classes are enjoying their Art gallery visits, coming
back with some
fabulous
artworks and
new skills.
JUNIOR OUTDOOR SPACE
The development of the junior outdoor space is underway. We would
like to thank Sam Wells from VULCAN STEEL, for the donation of the
steel for the bars and frames. This is greatly appreciated. The Year 5/6
children are fortunate to be working with Chris Hay during Discovery
Time in the construction of some of the equipment. We would also like
to thank the Pre-School for the donation of a climbing frame to add to the area.

Is your child shy? Do they feel intimidated by the idea of public
speaking and performance? Do they sometimes find it difficult to make
eye contact? Do they just need 60 minutes a week to take part in
organised craziness?! Come and join Marrzipan! We run awesome drama
classes which focus on key life skills after school on Tuesdays! We play fun
engaging games and perform at the end of term once to parents and once to
the school. All scripts are original, engaging, educational and HILARIOUS.
All children receive an end of term progress report too, along with a
certificate to remind them they are awesome! There are a few spaces
available for this term at a discounted price. Give me a call to secure your
child's space or just to chat about how the classes will benefit your child.
