Every hero has a story - Summer 2015 at Easttown Library
Monday, June 22– Friday, August 14, 2015
Welcome to Summer Reading at Easttown Library. Encouraging youth to read and learn throughout the summer
months helps to strengthen reading skills and vocabulary while nurturing a lifelong love of learning. Easttown
Library’s summer reading program, Every hero has a story, helps make reading fun with a variety of activities
and programs. Youth up to the age of fifteen who participate in Easttown Library’s Every hero has a story
program can earn a t-shirt.
Start by choosing a book that you
would like to listen to or read. Then sign
up at the library to join our summer
reading program and receive your
reading log. On your second visit, bring
in your log or a reading list, tell us
about what you have been reading, and receive your t-shirt. We hope
you stop in often to talk with us about your summer reading. We have
copies of grade-specific Tredyffrin/Easttown School District required
summer reading lists available. You will also find the lists of required
reading on our Information Guide. Look for the link under the banner
on our website at www.easttownlibrary.org.

Join us as we foster the skills your child needs in preparing to read.
Stories, songs, instruments and movement all work together to
nurture your family’s love of books and to prepare your child for a
lifetime of learning. All classes are designed to be attended by
young people along with their parents/caregivers.

flashing lights, digital scoring, and lots of
audience participation.
Eyes of the Wild: Traveling Zoo
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Tues., June 30
Come and meet live animals and learn how Eyes of the Wild
helps animals in need.
National Constitution Center: Growing up in America
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Tues., July 28
Explore traditional-style dress from different
historical periods by participating in a costume runway show and learn about what home, school,
and work were like during those times.
Franklin Institute: How to Build a Storm
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Wed., July 29
Lightning, twisters and hail—oh my! This dynamic show reveals the science of weather—
to the extreme. We’ll make a cloud, explore
thunder and lightning, and even create snow.
We promise a stormy ending to this show as
we demonstrate the power of a tornado!
Franklin Institute: Hot and Cold

Make balloons shrink, bubbles freeze, and a
rubber ball shatter as you challenge your
own assumptions about what is hot and what
is cold.
Academy of Natural Sciences: Everybody Needs a Home
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Tues., Aug. 4
Food, water, shelter, space—all creatures need a habitat that
provides these things. Meet several animals from different habitats,
and discover how their needs are met. Also explore
how animals depend upon and relate to one another
within a habitat.
Academy of Natural Sciences: Amazing Adaptations

What is an adaptation and what kinds are there? Learn about the
wide variety of animals on earth, and discover some features and
behaviors that help them to survive.
Franklin Institute: Energy

What is energy, and how is it used to power
everything from power plants to your body? We'll
demonstrate how different kinds of energy can be
transformed from one to another including kinetic, thermal, electrical,
chemical, potential, and stored. The dynamic, interactive demonstrations will have you on the edge of your seat!
Wondergy: SoundScience
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Wed., July 8
Experience sound as you’ve never seen, felt, or
heard it before. Use your voice to create a giant
laser show. Run a resonance relay race. Rock out
to odd instruments and explore what makes
music…musical!
Franklin Institute: Life in Space
(Grades K-12) 7 p.m., Wed., July 15
This show begins with the bang of a rocket being
launched into space! Come explore what it is like
to be an astronaut living on a space station at this
high-energy, interactive program.
Family Movie Nights
(All ages, parent/caregiver must stay with

Reading with Animals
This program has been sponsored by the
Friends of the Easttown Library

Pals for Life (www.palsforlife.org) will visit the
library with animals that enjoy listening to stories
read to them by young readers. Readers should
choose a book from the library or their own
collection to read to the animals. Registration required.
