For both the benefit of the environment and the ease of you, we have compiled a huge list of where to donate almost any item. Now you can make space for that entertainment room you always wanted, popcorn machine and all. Capital City Mission on S. Pearl Street in Albany accepts all appliances as well. Baby Items, Children’s Items and Toys HATAS (the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society) are in great need of baby items, from clothes to diapers. These vehicles are serviced mechanically and given out to individuals or households within a certain income level. The Cinderella Project of the Capital Region collects new and like-new prom and bridesmaids dresses, fancy shoes, and jewelry. They provide them free of charge to high school girls who are experiencing financial difficulty, so they can attend school events like Prom. They have many collection events where you can donate. Consumer Reports Greener Choices If you are worried about someone committing identity theft from your old hard drive, stealing ultra-personal information, or are just completely paranoid, there are two sites online that can wipe or destroy the information on your hard drive. The Technology Surplus Store accepts obsolete computers and computer equipment for recycling for a small charge or no charge at all. They also accept some appliances, fluorescent bulbs and batteries.
