Sports Coaching & Community Outreach South Africa Volunteering-done right! Page 1 About Us Why choose to volunteer on this programme? EDGE of AFRICA combines a visit to breath-taking Africa with a life-changing volunteer experience. Inspire local children to be active and healthy Provide an opportunity for local children to learn new skills Gain a varied experience combining sports with some of our community upliftment EDGE of AFRICA started making a direct positive impact on the lives of underprivileged South Africans and the country’s environment in 2007, since then EDGE of AFRICA branches have also been opened in Madagascar and Zimbabwe. Our award winning, organisation has continued to grow from strength to strength and now boasts the involvement of volunteers from over 30 different nations globally. About our Sports Coaching & Community Outreach Programme Who should apply? Sports is often the last priority in local schools when funding is limited therefore, we aim to provide an opportunity for local children to develop their love of sports where they may have otherwise missed out. Specific qualifications are not required however volunteers will need to have a passion for sports and be confident with the basics of at least one sport (Soccer as this is an extremely popular sport in SA but we welcome the introduction of a variety of sports too). We feel that sports can be an excellent tool for developing social skills such as working as part of a team, and making the right choices in life. Volunteers need to be hard working, mature, motivated and able to show initiative. Good health and physical fitness are also required. Volunteers also need to be confident with speaking English. Through our Community Outreach projects we aim to provide opportunities to members of Knysna’s more underprivileged communities. Our projects are aimed at empowering people and moving away from the “hand-out” sentiment as we believe that this is the only way to move forward and develop a nation.
