Class of 2019
Ashe County
Hallie A. Brown will graduate from Ashe County High School where she
is on Student Council and captain of the Tennis and Basketball teams.
She participates in a variety of volunteer activities with Beta Club, Interact
Club, and her church youth group. She plans to major in Nutrition Science.
Tyler E. Eller will graduate from Ashe County High School where she is senior
class president and captain of the Soccer and Cross Country teams. She is
also a member of the Basketball team and volunteers with youth athletic
programs, Beta Club, and Interact Club. She plans to major in Biomedical
Engineering.
Caldwell County
Shelby Brookshire will graduate from South Caldwell High School where
she was Tennis captain and a member of the Math Club, Model UN, and
Student Council. She is also a longtime 4-H member and participates in
a variety of service projects with the Blue Ridge Equine Rescue, Interact
Club, Beta Club, and Stop Hunger Now. She will major in Animal Science.
Taylor M. Floyd will graduate from Hibriten High School where she is a
Soccer and Cross Country team captain, Student Government secretary,
and Varsity Club vice president. She also serves as a volunteer soccer
coach and member of Beta Club. She will major in Mathematics.
Isaac K. Tolbert will graduate from South Caldwell High School where he
participated in Quiz Bowl, Marching Band, and Beta Club. He is also a
senior patrol leader with the Boy Scouts and has earned the rank of Eagle
Scout. He plans to major in Electrical Engineering.

Christen F. Williams will graduate from Bandys High School where she is
varsity leader of Science Olympiad, Choir section leader, and a Track and
Field captain. She also serves as a math tutor and volunteers with Key
Club. She plans to major in Materials Science & Engineering.
Cumberland County
Dominique M. Weatherspoon will graduate from Cross Creek Early
College High School where she is captain of the Soccer team and a
member of the National Honor Society and Academy of Scholars. She has
volunteered with the Interact Club, New Life Thrift Store, and Fayetteville
Urban Ministries. She will major in Mathematics.
Dare County
Sheppard D. Medlin will graduate from Manteo High School where he
served as president of the Computer Science Club, vice president of
Interact, and vice president of Student Government. He was also on the
Golf and Football teams. He plans to major in Engineering.
Davidson County
Taylor D. Blankenship will graduate from West Davidson High School
where she is captain of the Swim team, drum major for the Marching
Band, and president of the Symphonic Band. She has also served as a
swim coach and Lexington Medical Center volunteer. She plans to major
in Computer Engineering.
Dwight L. Hilton will graduate from Ledford Senior High School where he
is president of the Debate Club and captain of the Carolina Clays: a
scholastic clay target team. He is also a member of the Swimming team,
and volunteers with his church youth group and Beta Club. He will major
in Forest Management.

Hannah R. Hunt will graduate from North Davidson High School where she
served as president of the National Honor Society and Junior Civitans, and
was a captain of the Lacrosse and Tennis teams. She participates in math
and Model UN competitions and volunteers extensively. She will major in
Biological Sciences.
Durham County
Neil S. Cornwell will graduate from Durham Academy where he
competed in Science Olympiad, played on both varsity and club
Baseball teams, and served as vice president of Student Government.
He has also participated in stem cell research at the University of North
Carolina. He plans to major in Engineering.
Forsyth County
Meredith B. Bain will graduate from the UNC School of the Arts where she
played horn for the orchestra, chamber ensemble, and wind ensemble.
Meredith was also editor of her school yearbook and a peer leader. She
will major in Engineering.
Franklin County
Betsy L. Murphy will graduate from Kerr-Vance Academy where she is
chapter president of Future Farmers of America, president of Student
Government, and co-captain of the Tennis team. She is also a member of
the National Honor Society and Red Cross blood drive volunteer. She will
major in Biological Engineering.
Guilford County
Kevin A. Hernandez will graduate from Southwest Guilford High School
where he is a service-learning ambassador and member of the Cross
Country team, Beta Club, and Latin Club. He also volunteers at a
retirement home and elementary school. He plans to major in Biological
Sciences.

James S. Rush will graduate from High Point Christian Academy where he
serves as the vice president of the National Honor Society, performs in the
Jazz Band, and plays on the Varsity Soccer and Golf teams. He is also a
Patrol Leader with the Boy Scouts. He will major in Engineering.
Harnett County
Meredith A. Dickens will graduate from Western Harnett High School
where she was Student Government vice president, Yearbook editor, and
Cheerleading captain. She is also a member of Beta Club, Key Club, and
Future Farmers of America. She will major in Elementary Education.
Haywood County
Austin A. Hill will graduate from Pisgah High School where he is president
of the National Honor Society and Art Club, as well as a visible community
volunteer. He has played the piano since the age of four and serves as the
pianist for his church. He plans to major in Mathematics Education.
Iredell County
Christopher S. Turnmire will graduate from South Iredell High School where
he was a battalion commander and drill team member with the MCJROTC.
He is also an avid soccer player and is an active member of the Beta Club
and National Honor Society. He will major in Engineering.
Johnston County
Carrisa M. Womble will graduate from South Johnston High School where
she is co-captain of the Softball team, media director for Key Club, and
Senior Class president. She also volunteers with her local community
center, food bank, and Miracle League. She plans to major in Animal
Science.

Luke C. Sain will graduate from North Lincoln High School where he is an
ensemble captain with the Marching Band and a member of the National
Honor Society and Physics & Engineering Club. He also teaches piano
and volunteers with the local soup kitchen. He will major in Aerospace
Engineering.
Mecklenburg County
Jeffrey A. Barahona will graduate from Harding University High School
where he is the vice president of the Science Olympiad and a member of
the Model United Nations Club and Tennis team. He also volunteers with
the Special Olympics and the Students Against Violence Everywhere Club.
In his spare time he builds electronics. He plans to major in Chemistry.
Quadedria Y. Jones will graduate from the Phillip O. Berry Academy of
Technology where she was a Robotics Club team member and college
ambassador. She is also an active member of the National Society of High
School Scholars and the National Technical Honor Society. She will major
in Computer Engineering.
Tin T. Phan will graduate from East Mecklenburg High School where he is
Senior Class president, IB Service Club vice president, and service chair
of the National Honor Society. Tin also helps refugee youth as a summer
camp mentor and soccer coach. He plans to major in Physics.
Hayley S. Russell will graduate from Charlotte Catholic High School where
she was an ensemble captain with the Marching Band and vice president
of the Robotics Club. She also serves as a calculus tutor, Vacation Bible
school volunteer, and band and orchestra camp student leader. She will
major in Mathematics.

she is vice president of the Math Honor Society as well as president of
the Spanish Club and Muslim Student Association. She also serves as a
tutor, Recycling Club president, and Sunday School volunteer. She plans
to major in Biological Sciences.
Rachel L. Tilly will graduate from Lake Norman Charter School where she is
a member of the Senior Class Council, Key Club, and Recycling Club. She
also serves as an ambassador for the Girl Scouts and youth group leader.
She will major in Chemistry.
Jewel L. Wasson is graduating from Gaston Day School where she is a
coach for Science Olympiad, Girl Scout leader, and editor of Blutopia
Literary and Arts magazine. She is also a member of Gaston Day School’s
International Genetically Engineered Machines team. She plans to major
in Biological Sciences.
Nash County
Rebecca S. Pridgen will graduate from Rocky Mount High School. She
has been very involved in community service, working as a tutor, as a
volunteer with the HOPE Program for autistic children and as a volunteer
at local nursing homes. She has been a member of the Girl Scouts since
childhood, and is now a Senior Girl Scout. She will major in Elementary
Education.
Onslow County
Asa Augustin will graduate from Jacksonville High School where he is vice
president of the National Honor Society and treasurer of Skills USA. He is
also a member of Interact service club, the Information Technology and
Engineering Academy, and played varsity basketball. Asa volunteers with
the Onslow County Public Library and Onslow County Museum. He plans
to major in Mechanical Engineering.

John L. Medeiros will graduate from White Oak High School where he is
secretary and treasurer of the Senior Class Council, vice president of Skills
USA, and a member of the Engineering Club. He is also a senior patrol
leader with the Boy Scouts and has earned his Eagle Scout award. He will
major in Engineering.
Randolph County
Randy L. Bazhaw will graduate from Providence Grove High School where
he served as the president of the Science Club, percussion captain for the
marching band, and drum captain for the winter drumline. He is a lifelong
Boy Scout who has held a variety of leadership positions and earned his
Eagle Scout award. He will major in Engineering.
Sidney H. Rogers will graduate from Asheboro High School where he is
president of the National Honors Society, Senior Class vice president,
and captain of the Soccer and Wrestling teams. He also volunteers with
Hospice and created PURPOSE, a program that pairs student volunteers
with service opportunities. He plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.
Robeson County
Olivia Billings will graduate from Fairmont High School where she is
president of the Student Council, National Honor Society and National Art
Honor Society. She also volunteers as an after school tutor with elementary
school children and nursery worker with young children. She will major in
Chemistry.
Scotland County
Hannah E. Smith will graduate from Scotland Early College High School
where she has served as president of the Equestrian Club, as an attorney
with Teen Court, and as a member of Beta Club. She also volunteers at
a local veterinary clinic and has earned her Tae Kwon Do blue belt. She
plans to major in Animal Science.

Bilal Haque will graduate from Gray Stone Day School where he serves as
Student Council treasurer, a peer mentor and tutor, and Quiz Bowl team
member. He also teaches technology classes at the Stanly County Senior
Center. He will major in Chemistry.
Alyssa Patterson will graduate from Stanly Early College High School where
she is a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, and Glee
Club. Alyssa volunteers extensively, working with multiple organizations
including Esther House, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and the United
Way. She plans to major in Nutrition Science.
Union County
Matthew R. Hrycyna will graduate from Weddington High School where
he serves as vice president of the Math Honor Society and Triathlon Club,
and has played football and basketball. He also created a Global Oasis
project to provide portable filtration devices to Uganda. He will major in
Engineering.
William L. Hulme will graduate from Central Academy of Technology &
Arts where he is captain of the Marching Band and Robotics team. He is
also a senior patrol leader with the Boy Scouts and has earned his Eagle
Scout Award. He plans to major in Engineering.
Benjamin K. Laramee will graduate from Cuthbertson High School where
he has served as president of the National Honor Society and Tri-M
Music Honor Society, as well as principal tuba with the wind ensemble and
orchestra. He has also performed with the All-District and All-State Honor
Bands. He will major in Engineering.

Tanner J. Roseborough will graduate from Marvin Ridge High School
where he served as president of the Helping Hands Club, vice president
of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Lacrosse team. He
volunteers with the Charlotte Men’s Shelter and Take On Sports as a coach
for special needs children. He plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.
Wake County
Terrence E. Adams will graduate from Southeast Raleigh High School
where he was a member of the National Honor Society, teacher cadet,
and tutor. He was also involved in the ASSIST Young Scholars program,
which allowed him to participate in research on Centennial Campus. He
plans to major in Electrical Engineering.
Timothy S. Chen will graduate from Green Hope High School. He has been
involved with the Triangle Chinese American Society of North Carolina,
serving as an advisory board member, volunteer and member of the
Lion Dance Troupe. He has also conducted research with the NC State
College of Textiles. He will major in Mechanical Engineering.
Gabriella M. Mamlouk will graduate from William G. Enloe High
School where she is a member of the Medical Bioscience Academy,
Student Council Advisory, and serves as a tutor. She has volunteered as a
guidance counselor for children and intern at a local nursing home. She
plans to major in Biological Sciences.
Liesl G. Miranda will graduate from Cardinal Gibbons High School where
she is on the Varsity Golf team, and an officer with the Lancer Club and
Franciscan Youth International Club, both service organizations. She also
serves as a state leader with the CFC Youth for Christ organization. She will
major in Food Science.

Savannah E. Phipps will graduate from Heritage High School. She has
volunteered extensively with her church including campus beautification
projects, missionary work, and youth advocacy. She has also served as a
camp counselor and advisor. She plans to major in Elementary Education.
Neill L. Robson will graduate from Raleigh Charter High School where he
is an active member of the Honor Council, National Honor Society, and
International Thespian Society. He has participated in high school and
professional theatre in a variety of capacities including acting, technical
assistance, and sound design. He will major in Computer Engineering.
Nishant Singh will graduate from William G. Enloe High School. He has
participated in research on patient care and co-authored a research
paper. He also established a local branch of the child advocacy group,
Child Rights and You, which received an award as the Student Action
Center of the Year. He plans to major in Industrial Engineering.
Lauren G. Smith will graduate from Cary High School where she served
as a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, and as
captain of the Cheerleading team. She is very involved with the YMCA
where she serves as a camp and after-school counselor and as secretary
of their service organization. She will major in Elementary Education.
Caeman Toombs will graduate from the North Carolina School of Science
and Mathematics where he is involved in computer programming and
engineering projects as a Kramden Institute project leader. He has also
participated in Marching Band, Intramural Soccer, Swing Dance, and
Chorus. He plans to major in Computer Engineering.
