Information Packet
Who are the Pantherettes?
The Pantherettes Drill Team is a dance team
comprised of 7th and 8th grade girls who represent
Evans Middle School. The Pantherettes dance at home
football games, select boys’ home basketball games,
pep rallies, and various contests during competition
season. Being a Pantherette is an honor and special
privilege. The EMS Drill Team exists to promote good
sportsmanship, good citizenship, and wholesome and
enthusiastic school spirit.
What are the Expectations?
As a member of the EMS Drill Team, each girl is
expected to participate in all practices and
performances. Pantherettes are required to meet all
requirements set by the UIL, including grade policies
and drug/alcohol abstinence contracts. Each girl is
expected to act in accordance with the provisions as
outlined in the EMS Drill Team Handbook and the
MISD Student Code of Conduct.

Why Be a Pantherette?
For the Fun!
 The Pantherettes perform at EMS home football games, select boys’ home basketball
games, and pep rallies.
 The Pantherettes have frequent team-bonding activities! Past activities have included pool
parties, movie night, team dinners, bowling, etc.
For the Friends!
 The Pantherettes spend a great deal of time together and bond over the season.
Wonderful friendships are created through these experiences.
For the Dancing!
 The Pantherettes are constantly challenged with fun and relevant choreography.
 They have won numerous awards for their abilities as a group at competitions.
 Girls on the team learn dance technique and various styles of dance, including jazz, hip
hop, pom, and military.
For the Experience!
 The Pantherettes learn the value of teamwork and dedication.
 The Pantherettes experience the thrill and excitement of team competition.

The Year in Review
Summer Camp

All members of the team must attend Summer Camp in its entirety. Camp is a time for
the girls not only to get to know one another, but also to develop skills and dance
technique. In addition, all of the football field routines are learned at this camp.

Camp is held for 3-4 days at the end of July or at the beginning of August depending on
scheduling.
Football Season

Fall is football season and the beginning of our year!

The Pantherettes perform at all Evans Middle School home football games. All members
are expected to attend all games with the team. We do not perform at away games.

All football games are held at the auxiliary field at McKinney High School.
Basketball Season

The Pantherettes perform at select boys’ home basketball games. All members are
expected to attend all games with the team. We do not perform at away games.

All basketball games are held in the EMS gym.
Competition

The Pantherettes compete in the winter and/or the spring at 2-3 different contests. Tryouts
are held for the competitive teams.

Practices for competition are held after school. Some Saturday practices may be required.

General Expectations
1. School should be your first priority. Be a responsible student. Stay on top of your schoolwork
and be aware of your grades at all times.
2. Pantherettes should be respectful to ALL teachers and staff.
3. Attend all practices and performances.
4. Treat every team member with kindness and respect. This includes refraining from gossip.
5. Be a superior representation of the Drill Team as both a dancer and a student.
6. Give 100% at all practices.
7. Have excellent stand and performance etiquette.
8. Take care of your uniform items. Label everything!
9. Exhibit excellent character through commitment, honesty, and integrity.
10. Maintain a positive attitude!

Practice Expectations
1. Be in the gym on time. Practice starts promptly at 4pm on rehearsal days.
2. Snacks should be finished before 4pm.
3. Pantherettes should be in correct practice attire without any missing articles. This includes poms
and jazz shoes.
4. Hair should be pulled back into a clean ponytail.
5. All jewelry should be removed, with the exception of stud earrings.
6. Gum is not allowed.
7. Eating during practice is not allowed.
8. The use of cell phones during practice is not allowed.
9. Friends are not allowed to come and watch practice.
10. Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from complaining. 
11. The director reserves the right to pull any member from a performance due to absence,
conduct, or lack of effort.

Expectations for Games &
Stand Etiquette
1. Arrive on time!
2. Arrive in FULL performance attire without any missing uniform items. This includes earrings and
poms.
3. Pantherettes are NOT allowed to chew gum, eat snacks, go to the concession stand, etc. while in
the stands.
4. Pantherettes are to only drink water while in the stands.
5. The use of cell phones in the stands is strictly prohibited unless a girl notifies the director that
she needs to contact a parent for an emergency reason.
6. Magazines, books, and homework are not allowed in the stands.
7. All Pantherettes are expected to sit with the team during the game and are not to walk around
socializing with friends, boys, etc. until the game is over.
8. All Pantherettes are expected to be attentive during football games and to participate in crowd
cheers with the cheerleaders.
9. All Pantherettes are expected to sit upright, to have their ankles crossed, to smile, and to
maintain good posture overall.
10. Be a good sport. Pantherettes are not to make any negative remarks about either team.
11. Maintain “performance mode” while in the stands. Remember that the team is there to
support the players on the field and not to socialize.
12. TALKING DURING HALFTIME LINEUP IS NOT PERMITTED!
13. TALKING ON THE FIELD/COURT IS NOT PERMITTED!
14. After the performance, regroup and get into the team entrance line. Return to your seat
without talking or stopping to socialize.
15. All Pantherettes are expected to stay for the ENTIRE game, UNLESS a game goes past 8:30. The
girls will never have to stay past that time.

Frequently Asked Questions
 Do I have to be enrolled in Athletics to be on the Drill Team?
No. Drill Team is an extracurricular activity.
 Do I have to try out to be on Drill Team?
Nope! If you are hardworking, determined, and have a friendly, positive attitude, all you
have to do is fill out an application!
 Are girls “cut” from the team?
No, girls are not cut from the team. The director reserves the right, however, to remove
a girl from a performance due to absences, conduct, or lack of effort.
 When does the Drill Team practice?
The Drill Team regularly practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30. For the
first few weeks of school (approximately 3), the team will also practice on Tuesdays from 45:30 to prepare for football season. When preparing for a Saturday competition (2-3 times
a year), the competitive team will practice Monday through Friday from 4:00-5:30.
 When does the Drill Team perform?
The Drill Team performs at all home football games. These games are always on Tuesday
nights. During basketball season, the Pantherettes perform at select boys’ home games.
Basketball games are usually on Monday and Thursday nights. The Drill Team also
participates in school pep rallies and local dance competitions.
 Do the Pantherettes wear their uniforms to school on game days?
The Pantherettes do not wear their sequin field dresses to school. They do, however, wear
their rhinestone embellished Pantherette wind suits to school.
 Is summer camp mandatory?
Yes, summer camp is mandatory.

 How long does the Drill team season last?
The Drill Team season lasts from August to the end of February or to the very beginning of
March. Girls who are not selected to be a part of the competition team will end their
season in December.
 Can I be an officer?
Veteran Pantherettes (2nd year members) are eligible to apply for an officer rank.

Camp
Host: American Dance/Drill Team
Location: Camp is usually held at Evans Middle School. If for some reason
the EMS gym is unavailable during camp week, camp will be held at
another MISD middle school. The location will be communicated to all
Pantherettes and parents in a timely fashion.
Line Camp Dates: August 10-12
Cost Per Member: To be determined; will cost <$100

Evans Middle School)

PHYSICALS
Students who have a current physical on file with MISD do not need an additional physical for drill team
tryouts. If your student has a physical on file, you must email the drill team director at the campus your
student is auditioning with your student’s first and last name, student id number and current campus. The drill
team director will verify there is a physical on file. Students who do not have a current physical on file with
MISD must have a physical completed and submitted prior to tryouts in order to participate. The physical will
only be accepted by MISD for the remainder of the current school year; therefore, in order to participate in
any U.I.L. extra-curricular activity for the 2015- 2016 school year, a student must have a physical
submitted on the appropriate 2015 – 2016 MISD Physical Form that is dated after April 1, 2015.
