Please have your children wear coats to school and remind them that they must wear their coats outside at recess. A friendly reminder will be given the first time a child is seen without a coat. Demerits will be given after the first reminder. With the temperature change, children are more at risk for illness and our goal is to keep our children healthy. We are listening! You asked for administration to be more accessible and we have made that possible. Being a Good Cyber Citizen We have read some of the comments that parents have posted on social media about staff members. Some of the comments are highly critical. We recognize that everyone has the right to their opinion, but we do not believe that people have the right to express opinions publicly that defame someone’s character and reputation. We ask that parents and students consider carefully what they post about someone’s reputation before they post a comment on social media. We all know that it is very important to watch where our kids go when they leave our homes. It is also important where they go online. Things that seem harmless can harm your computer or worse, violate your child’s privacy or safety. It is crucial to teach your child to be a good cyber citizen and avoid situations that can be dangerous. One way to do this is to have open communication, be transparent about the dangers of the internet and monitor where your children visit online. Children learn by example and it’s our obligation to set good examples for the future generation. Test Fairness and Security The PARCC states are committed to secure testing because fair tests are essential to better preparing the next generation for success. How do the states protect the fairness and validity of the PARCC test? The states contract with a test vendor to search social media and websites for images or words from live tests, which are copyright infringements and jeopardize the fairness of the test for all students. Sharing images of test items via Twitter, Instagram, or other public social media sites -‐ or posting basic information about test items -‐ is today's equivalent of photocopying a test and passing it out on the schoolhouse steps. Cell phones are not allowed in the testing session and test administrators are instructed to tell all students before the test that sharing any test question online is prohibited. The PARCC states' policy follows the best practices outlined by the Council of Chief State School Officers, which recommends that there should be "procedures to monitor the internet and social websites before, during and after test administration for any evidence the items and/or answers have been shared" online. In order to maintain test security, each PARCC state contracted with its test vendor, Pearson, to search for any live PARCC test questions that are shared through public social media sites. This is standard practice for large-‐scale tests including ACT and SAT. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The TEECS Tribune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Somerset, New Jersey — Winter 2015 — 2 pages _____________________________________________________________________________________ Dear TEECS Community, This is the Newspaper Club’s second edition of our seasonal newspaper. Winter is the best season! Sushant Lebaka Winter Winter is the best season ever. One reason is that Winter is very white because it snows. I also go outside to see the snow. One activity you can do is sled. Sledding is when you get a sled and go down with it on a short hill with snow. I go sledding and when it’s my turn to sled I get carried away. You can also build a snowman or you can go skiing. Winter is very fun. I also love winter because we get presents. I always use a remote helicopter that can take pictures of Santa. I sleep so Santa gives me a present. I also love the food and drinks that you can enjoy in the winter. I eat gingerbread cookies and drink hot-cocoa. I am so excited that Winter is coming! Nishant Lebaka 4 Christmas There is a Rockefeller Christmas tree in New York! Near it, people skate and dance on ice. When night approaches, people light up the tree with rainbow and plain lights. They also put beautiful ornaments on it. These are a few facts about the Rockefeller tree. In Phoenix, the citizens celebrate Christmas even though it never ever snows there! Also in Phoenix, there is a tree that is covered in lights. The tree is actually a fake tree that is white. The tree itself is made of light curled into chains. Ayush Tripathi It’s a Happy Holiday!
