2.0 SCHOOL HOURS AND TIMETABLES
2.1
The School Day
The School Day is from 08.55-16.25.
The School is officially open from 08.30. Children may proceed directly to the
Cafeteria and from 08.45 may enter the Main Building to access their lockers.
Pupils must register with their Tutor between 08.55 and 09.10. Late arrivals
must sign in at the School Office and inform their Tutors that they are in
School.
It is important for your child’s future that they make the most of their time at
School. This means regular attendance and arriving on time, habits that in
the future will be valued by other educational establishments and employers.
It is very important that pupils arrive punctually, so that they do not miss the
beginning of the day’s lessons and classes are not interrupted repeatedly by
late arrivals. Parents should write a note in their child’s diary giving the
reason for any late arrivals. Pupils arriving late will be given a late mark in
the register.
All pupils must attend afternoon registration in their Tutor bases at 16.15. At
this time Tutors ensure that the pupils have the correct information and
resources to do their homework and that they are dressed in the appropriate
uniform to leave the School.
2.2
Absences
If your child is ill, please inform us, on the first day of the illness, either by
telephone (96 573 1960), or email n.smolders@laudeladyelizabeth.com
Should it be necessary to take your child out of School during term time,
please request permission from the Headmaster in writing, with at least two
weeks’ notice in advance of the absence.
Notes from parents explaining absence should be addressed to specific
Tutors; there is a section at the back of the School Diary for your
convenience. However, requests for leave of absence should be addressed to
the Headmaster and handed in to the School Office. Parents are required to
inform the School of a child’s absence in advance if possible or once the pupil
has returned to School stating the reason for the absence. The dates of
absence must be included.

2.3
Parking
Parents are requested to observe the car parking signs indicating where they
may park and, for safety reasons, not to enter the staff car parking area and
not to park on the brow of the hill. As parking facilities are limited, please
use the drop-off/pick-up zone where possible and only park if you have to.
Please drive extremely slowly and carefully into and around the parking area.
2.4
Change of Arrangements or Details
It is important for your child’s safety that you inform us of any change in
their pick-up or School transport arrangements. Please inform us in plenty of
time, either by telephone, in writing or by email to the office. If someone
different will be collecting your child, please inform us of the person’s name
and their relationship to your child.
If there is any change to your address, email or telephone number, please
ensure that the office is informed. It may be necessary to contact you
urgently, in the case of illness or injury, so mobile phone numbers and
emergency contact phone numbers should also be made available to the
School and be kept updated.

2.6 Unforeseen School Closure
Occasionally, usually in the event of very bad weather conditions, School
transport is suspended and Schools are advised to close by the local police.
This information is immediately posted on the School website,
www.laudeladyelizabeth.com and, if pupils are already at School, parents are
informed by text message or telephone, by the School and asked to collect
their children. If weather conditions are bad first thing in the morning, please
consult the School website or telephone the School to check on the situation.
An emergency system has also been put into place. A parent from each Tutor
Group has been allocated as a contact. These contacts can be phoned by
parents in the same Tutor Group to find out about School closures.
3.0 SERVICES
3.1
Cafeteria
School Lunches are available, cooked on the premises by experienced
catering staff from the Company Mendoza.
School Lunches consist of a three-course menu of nutritious and wellbalanced Spanish food; a monthly menu is available which also appears on
our website www.laudeladyelizabeth.com
Pupils order their lunch on a daily basis during Registration Period and
payment is by cash in the Cafeteria.
Alternatively, pupils may choose to bring a packed lunch from home.
3.2
Transport
Pupils using School transport are accompanied by a monitor provided by the
coach company. If you are interested in using this service, information about
routes and timetables is available from the office. In order to ensure the safe
transfer of pupils to and from School disruptive behaviour will not be
tolerated on the School buses. The parents of those pupils who create any
type of disturbance that might cause discomfort to other pupils or that might
distract the driver will be informed of their child’s actions in the first instance.
Should the pupil continue to disregard the standards, he/she will not be
allowed to use the School bus.
3.3
Books and Materials
Pupils are provided with all their books and most of the materials they will
need, however, there will be a charge to replace lost books and School

Diaries. The School will not provide pupils with reports at the end of the
School year if textbooks have not been returned.
3.4
Illness/Rules and Advice
It is normal that pupils will, from time to time, contract viral,
other illnesses. In cases where the possibility of contagion
affected pupil must not attend School, for their own sake and for
classmates. Parents should inform the School of the situation

child at School (e.g. allergies, asthma, heart conditions, sight or hearing
problems etc) and to provide any necessary medications such as an inhaler
for asthma, Epipen for serious allergies, clearly labeled with your child’s
name, along with clear written instructions for their use.
Should your child need, on occasion, to bring medication to school, this
should be left with the School Nurse clearly labelled with your child’s name
and with written instructions indicating the exact dose, times and method of
administration. All medication must be sent with the accompanying spoon or
measuring container.
If your child is taken ill or has suffered an accident of any note whilst at
School, you will be informed immediately. You will be informed of any head
injury, regardless of its severity. Should it be deemed necessary, your child
will be taken directly to IMED Teulada, accompanied by the School Nurse.
You will be informed of this step and asked to go IMED immediately. Should
your child develop a problem after School, which started in School, you must
take them to IMED Teulada, Centro Medico, Denia or Hospital Levante,
Benidorm and then they will be covered by the School’s Insurance. In the
Senior School, the School Nurse is available throughout the School day but it
remains understood that the nurse cannot, and should not, take on the role
of the child’s doctor at any time.
4.0 UNIFORM
We are proud of our School uniform and want our pupils to wear it with pride
and to take pride in their personal appearance. We expect our pupils to wear
correct and tidy uniform at all times and ask for your co-operation in
upholding the standard of uniform in the Senior School.
All pupils are expected to adhere strictly to the uniform code and to wear
their shirts tucked in. Shoes should be flat, without a wedge or other type of
high heel, to ensure pupils’ safety when moving around the site. Skirts
should be of a suitable length for School i.e. on the knee.

In the Sixth Form there is no uniform but students are required to adhere to
a Dress Code which consists of:





Boys Summer: Smart shorts (not very short), trousers, plain polo tshirt or short sleeved shirt, smart canvas shoes

Girls Summer: Smart shorts (not very short), trousers, skirt or ¾
length trousers with blouse; Dress; Smart shoes or sandals.

Smart shoes NO shorts or leggings
NONE of the following: jeans (of any colour), mini-skirts/dresses,
strappy or revealing tops, sportswear (including trainers), flip-flops.
If in doubt DON’T WEAR IT. We reserve the right to send students home if
they are not suitably dressed.
4.2
Accessories
Pupils are permitted to wear a simple gold or silver necklace, a watch, a
signet ring and small stud earrings. Piercings and visible tattoos are not
permitted. Nail varnish and make-up is also not allowed. Watches must be
removed for PE.

We recommend that long hair is worn tied back, so that it does not get in the
way in class or on the playground. Hair bands, ribbons, slides, elastics etc
should be discreet and navy blue in colour.
If a pupil comes to school incorrectly dressed, this will be pointed out to
them so that it can be remedied for the next day. Should the problem
persist, then an ‘Incorrect Uniform Notification’ will be sent home via email or
with the pupil. It is expected that the problem will be rectified immediately. If
you are having difficulty obtaining items of uniform, please notify us.
All items of uniform, including socks, shoes, trainers etc must be clearly
marked with the pupil’s name.
5.0 REPORTS TO PARENTS
All parents in year 7 – 13 will receive a detailed Annual Report as well as
termly Grade Sheets with Tutor comments. The dates of parents’ meetings

6.0 HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
We believe that it is very important to build, from the earliest days, positive
school/parent relationships that will remain supportive and constructive as
pupil’s progress through the school. To achieve the best results it is
important that the family and the school work together towards the same
common objectives.
6.1
School Diary
At the beginning of the year, Tutors will give a homework diary to each
student. Please use the diaries to inform us of anything that you wish us to
know. When students receive a note from a teacher we ask parents to sign it
so we can be certain that it has been read.
6.2
Appointment to see a teacher
In order to make communication with families easier, every teacher will have
one lesson per week exclusively set aside for parental meetings. Parents who
wish to arrange such a meeting should organise an appointment in advance
by contacting the School Secretary by e-mail to:

6.3
Parent Information Meetings
A Parent Information Meeting for new parents is held soon after the
beginning of the Autumn Term. This is an opportunity for Tutors to introduce
themselves, explain important routines and outline the year’s curriculum.
Also available at these meetings are Members of the Senior Management
Team, including the Director Técnica (Head of Spanish Section)
6.4
Appointments Evenings
Appointments Evenings are held for each year group in the School. These
meetings take place in the Theatre. They tend to last from 16.45 to 18.45.
Should parents wish to consult any member or members of staff on the
progress of their children they are welcome to do so and should contact the
School Office so that a convenient time may be organised.

7.0 GENERAL RULES
7.1
Standards
A high standard of conduct and good manners is expected of all pupils both
in and out of School. A breach of good manners or common sense and any
conduct liable to lower the reputation of the School will be treated as a
breach of the School rules.
Particular attention must be paid to personal appearance and pupils are
required to avoid dropping litter. Any damage to School property, however,
caused, must be reported to the Caretaker on site.
The possession, manufacture or use of explosives, firearms, fireworks,
catapults, knives, alcoholic drinks, smoking materials, drugs or other harmful
substances is forbidden.
7.2
Policy on Bullying
The School adopts a No Blame Policy and zero tolerance towards bullying.
 Bullying is deliberately hurtful behaviour.
 It is often repeated over a period of time.
 It is difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves, either
physically, emotionally or verbally.
Bullying can take many forms, but the main four types are:
 Physical – hitting, kicking or taking belongings
 Verbal – name calling, insulting, racist remarks
 Indirect – spreading nasty stories about someone, excluding someone
from social groups
 Passive – being present during any of the above and failing to
intervene or report
 Cyber – out of school hours (using any of the numerous social chat
rooms to bully other students)
Appropriate sanctions will be considered, ranging from:
 An informal warning
 A formal warning with the Tutor present
 Detention
 Parental involvement, by phone, letter or interview
 On a report card to the Tutor
 On a report card to a member of the Senior Management Team
 Internal Suspension – 5 school days out of classes in isolation, then 10
days in isolation
 External Suspension – 5 school days at home, then 10 school days at
home
 Expulsion

7.3
Stealing
Stealing is taking and keeping property that does not belong to you. Stealing
is unacceptable whatever is stolen. School takes stealing very seriously and
will punish all thieves severely. Any member of the School who is involved in
stealing puts their place in the School at risk.
7.4
Valuables
Pupils are discouraged from bringing items of value to School. Phones are not
to be used in lessons. Anyone bringing a phone to School must hand it into
their Tutor during registration at the start of the day. The phone will be kept
safe by the Tutor and handed back during afternoon registration. Should
parents wish to contact their children during the course of the School day
they may phone the School Office. Pupils needing to contact their parents
may also use the School Office phone to do so. In years 7 – 11 iPods and
similar music devices may be used to and from school, but are not to be used
during class times. All essential valuables should be secured in a pupil’s
locker. During lessons such as PE and Drama, pupils should hand their
valuables to the teacher for safekeeping. At no time should items of value or
money be left unattended, anywhere. Should parents wish to inform the
School that their child has a particular valuable in School, they may inform
their child’s Tutor in writing.
7.5
Drugs Policy
LAUDE The Lady Elizabeth School condones neither the misuse of drugs, by
which we mean drugs, solvents, alcohol or tobacco, by pupils of the School,
nor the illegal supply of these substances. The School acknowledges the
importance of its role in the development of young people, and through the
general ethos of the School will seek to persuade pupils in need of support to
come forward.
7.6
Race Relations
It is important to be aware of the sensitivities of cultural and ethnic groups.
Behaviour which could be construed as offensive to such groups will not be
tolerated.
7.7
Routine
Pupils are responsible for reading notices.
Ball games are not to be played inside the School other than in the
gymnasium under supervision.

Pupils should attend classes promptly, and be fully prepared for the lesson to
ensure least disruption to the teacher’s delivery once the lesson has
commenced.
7.8
Smoking
The School has a no smoking policy.
7.9
The School Council
A representative from each tutor group will sit on the School Council. The
role of the School Council is to exist as a vehicle for pupils to communicate
their suggestions and to ensure the School maintains an environment that is
conducive to the improvement of all its pupils. The Council will meet once a
month.
7.10 Bounds
No pupil is allowed “off site” without the permission of the Headmaster or a
member of the Senior Management Team in his absence.
8.0 OTHER SERVICES
8.1
Instrumental and Singing Lessons
Private music lessons in most instruments can be arranged with peripatetic
teachers who visit the School on a weekly basis. If you are interested, please
contact the Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Suzanne Millington, or ask at the
office for details.
The School is also a centre for examinations of the Associated Board of the
Royal School of Music and for LAMDA (London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Art).
8.2
Educational Visits
A number of educational visits take place throughout the year to enhance the
School curriculum and make it more meaningful and interesting for the
pupils. When a visit is planned for your child’s class, you will be informed of
the details by letter or email and asked to provide signed authorisation for
your child to take part. Pupils without signed authorisation will not be
permitted to take part in the visit.

8.3
Learning Support
Some pupils may need a little support in their learning. In many cases, this
support will take the form of differentiation of tasks and materials within the
classroom. However, pupils who require a slightly higher level of support with
Literacy skill in English or Spanish may be withdrawn on an individual or
small group basis once or twice a week to work with our Learning Support
Team (English) or our Psicopedagoga (Spanish). If it is thought that your
child would benefit from being withdrawn for extra help, the School will
contact you.
8.4
Extra Curricular Activities Programme
Every year there are a number of extra-curricular activities on offer. Parents
will be informed about these at the beginning of the Autumn Term.
8.5
External Examinations
As well as GCSE, IGCSE A/S and A Level External Examinations, pupils also
have the opportunity to take examinations in the following:
 LAMDA – speaking of prose and verse
 Cambridge English – for non native learners of English
 Associated Board of The Royal School of Music – for
instrumentalists and singers
 Cervantes – for non-native learners of Spanish, for students
following the Spanish Section
 Fase Específica – for Year 13 students to access Spanish
Universities
 Valenciano
9.0 ENGLISH AND SPANISH LANGUAGES
Living in Spain and following a British Education with the possibility of
homologating both Secondary Spanish certificates: “Graduado en Educación
Secundaria” and “Bachillerato”, pupils have an extraordinary opportunity.
Although we are a British School, and so the main teaching language is
English, we are committed to promoting Spanish throughout the School.
Alongside the British Curriculum which includes Spanish MFL, the School also
offers the Spanish Curriculum for native/fluent Spanish speakers.

Spanish MFL Lessons
During their 4/5 MFL Spanish lessons each week, pupils are taught in groups
according to their level of Spanish. There may be two or three groups per
year group from the following:
 Beginners – Modern Foreign Language (MFL)
 Intermediate (MFL)
 Higher (MFL)
Spanish Section
Pupils in Key Stage 3 who follow the Spanish Curriculum have 8 periods per
week taught in Spanish and those in Key Stage 4 have 9 periods per week.
In accordance with the Royal Decree 806/1993, the teaching of a foreign
educational curriculum will be completed with instruction in Lengua
Castellana, Ciencias Sociales and the language of the Autonomous
Community, i.e. Valenciano. The Spanish Section is for those pupils who are
Spanish or are fluent in the Language. In Key Stage 3 Lengua Castellana,
Ciencias Sociales and Valenciano are compulsory subjects for all pupils
following first language Spanish.
In Sixth Form, there is also a Spanish Section in which we offer two or three
periods per week in the following subjects:
Lengua Castellana y Literatura, Lengua Valenciana, Matemáticas I y II,
Matemáticas aplicadas a las Ciencias Sociales I y II, Física I y II, Biología I y
II, Dibujo Técnico I y II, Geografía, Historia del Arte, Literatura Universal,
Química and Dibujo artístico I y II.
These subjects are offered in preparation for the Entrance tests of the Fase
Específica of the PAU in 2010 in accordance with the Royal Decree 1892/2008
of 14 November.
EFL English as a Foreign Language
In years 7-11 many students, for whom English is not their first language,
are taught in groups according to their competency in the language. The
department aims to improve their English language skills in order to facilitate
their learning of the rest of the British curriculum.
We prepare our students for the Cambridge IGCSE ESL examination which is
taken at the end of year 11. We also assist in preparation for oral exams and
help with written work across a wide range of other subjects.
Our Sixth Form students normally concentrate on the two highest levels,
Cambridge Advanced C1 and Proficiency C2.
The department also offers extra English support for those in need, either in
individual sessions or in small groups.
