CFB Combustion
Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) meets high acceptance and is base
technology, applied in power plants and other industries for steam generation by combustion of low/high quality coal, biomass, sludges, RDF
and other residual fuels. Enhanced downstream flue gas treatment is
available for waste combustion and is designed in accordance with the
latest environmental standards.
In addition to CFB, ENVIROTHERM’s portfolio includes the stationary
(FB) fluidized bed technology. Both – CFB and FB – offer proven and
reliable technologies with excellent emission values.
Numerous CFB/FB plants have been built.
ENVIROTHERM’s activities are highlighted by
Vojany, Slovak Republic
•
Stadtwerke Flensburg, Germany, combined heat and power
plant: Engineering for a re-fuelling project to co-fire up to 25 %
(energy) of biomass and RdF (high CV and high Cl content)
in three 150 t/h hard coal fired boilers
•
Cottbus, Germany, combined heat and power plant:
Redesign / supply of 12 cyclones and reengineering of in-bed
bundles in a pressurized lignite fired fluidized bed boiler
(82 MWel)
• Turkey, three CFB boilers up to 460 t/h steam,
in collaboration with SES / Slovak Republic.

CFB Gasification
Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) gasification is applied in the
power, steel and other gas consuming industries for the gasification
of various feedstocks ranging from low/high quality coal and
waste materials to CO2 neutral biomass.
The unit capacity range corresponds to 5-50 MWel .
CFB is operated at temperatures below ash softening point
(i. e. 750-950 °C), with an even temperature profile in the reactor
and excellent heat and mass transport. Thus the CFB gasification
technology is well suited for temperature sensitive (alkaline containing)
fuels like various types of coal and biomass (woodchips, straw etc.).
Numerous CFB plants have been built. ENVIROTHERM’s CFB gasification
activities are represented by the following references:
• CFB gasification of RdF in the cement industry –
Ruedersdorf, Germany
• CFB gasification of demolition wood –
Geertruidenberg, The Netherlands
• CFB gasification of high ash Indian coal and lignite –

BGL Gasification
Schwarze Pumpe, Germany
The BGL offers compelling competitive advantages like
• high cold gas efficiency (82 % - 93 %)
• high specific fuel throughput
• low oxygen consumption
• low steam consumption
• low aqueous liquor production
• high fuel flexibility: nearly all coal qualities and other types
of fuels (e.g. waste) can be processed
• excellent load following capabilities
The BGL (British Gas Lurgi) fixed bed slagging gasifier
operates at pressures up to 40 bar. Fields of application are
power, chemicals and fertilizer industries as well as producers
of liquid fuels or synthetic natural gas.
• slag as by-product is non-leachable and can be re-utilized
• enables CO2 capture and storage (“CCS”)
• modular design with a nominal capacity of approx. 1,000 tons
of coal per day, equivalent to approx. 150 MWel (depending
on feedstock)
• proven and robust design
14 BGL gasifiers are currently under engineering or construction,
thereof 12 in China and 2 in India. Application is for ammonia, urea and
fuel gas generation. Commissioning is planned from 2012 onwards.

Hazardous Waste Incineration
Izmit, Turkey
6
Technologies for Clean Energy and Clean Air
ENVIROTHERM supplies plants for the incineration of various types
of solid and liquid hazardous waste in a rotary kiln. Long residence
time in the rotary kiln in connection with a downstream high temperature post combustion chamber is meant to ensure an excellent
burn-out and complete destruction of hazardous substances.
Heat from the hot flue gases is recovered by a waste heat boiler
and converted into electric power in a steam turbine.
The cooled flue gas is cleaned in a modern flue gas treatment plant
to highest emission standards. The flue gas treatment plant is tailor
made and may be effluent free depending on local conditions and
requirements.
ENVIROTHERM can draw on a number of 25 hazardous waste
incineration plants built worldwide.
One of them is located in Izmit / Turkey, has a waste incineration
capacity of 35,000 t/a and provides for the generation of steam
at a rate of 27 t/h to be converted into 5.2 MWel .

Flue Gas Cleaning
ENVIROTHERM’s flue gas cleaning technologies are best
suited for power plants, sludge, municipal solid waste or hazardous
waste incineration plants. All plants are tailor made acc. to capacity
and expected contaminants. They provide for the elimination of toxic
substances to meet most stringent environmental standards.
The cleaning units consist of proven and reliable components.
Effluent free units are available for coping with challenging local
conditions and requirements.
ENVIROTHERM’s flue gas cleaning plants are part of numerous
sewage sludge and hazardous waste incineration plants.

SCR Catalyst
For more than 50 years ENVIROTHERM’s catalysts have been
developed and continuously improved for the application in catalytic
reduction processes, e. g. for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in the
flue gas of power plants (SCR technology, ZERONOX®). In addition
to the reduction of nitrogen oxides the ZERONOX® D catalysts stand
for reducing dioxins.
ENVIROTHERM catalysts production, Chengdu, Sichuan, China
Depending on local conditions Envirotherm’s monolithic TiO2 based
honeycomb catalysts are installed either on the high dust or on the
low dust side of the flue gas path. Catalytically active components
can be customised for specific applications in accordance with
process related requirements. They have a square cross-section of
150 x 150 mm and can be supplied up to lengths of 1,300 mm.
Compared to non-catalytic processes the consumption of ammonia
containing reducing agents is significantly less.
The production of the catalysts has been moved into a Joint
Venture in China in 2006. Over 40,000 m³ of the ZERONOX®
and ZERONOX® D catalysts have been supplied. This is equivalent
to a nitrogen oxides reduction capacity of approximately 40,000 MW
of electrical power station capacity.
