Second Thursday every month at 11:59 - in Blue Ridge at Gazebo in Downtown City Park “Please avail yourself to attend these important times of prayer as we come together collectively as a Community to pray for our Nation, its Leaders and Revival for America!” Hello to everyone. My name is Miracle and I had a wonderful home with the best Mom in the world. But she got sick and died. I miss her so much. Lucky for me the Fannin County Animal Control team found me, but they do not have a place for kitty cats so they called the Humane Society of Blue Ridge. Now I am living at the Humane Society’s Cat Haven and have made new friends. I still miss my Mom, EXW GH¿QLWHO\ OLNH WR FXGGOH up once I know you. I am neutered, house trained and have all my shots. All I need is a new Mom and Dad too! Please come to see me by calling 706-632-4357 to set up a visit at the Humane Society of Blue Ridge. Raised Bed Gardening presented by Walt George, soil consultant and designer/builder of raised bed gardens, taught the class how to construct a raised bed. Raised bed gardening allows you to control the quality of the soil, providing the perfect balance of nutrients, density and drainage. Good old Georgia clay lacks all of those elements, making raised bed gardening the choice among home gardeners. George even provided a raised bed soil recipe. One of the best benefits to raised bed gardening is the early warming of the plot. Elevating the soil above the ground lets the sun warm the soil so you can plant earlier. Elaine Bliss, Georgia Master Gardener / organic gardener, with over 30 years experience in build- ing compost piles, presented “Composting.” If you want to go organic or natural in feeding your plants, compost is the way to go. Compost pile are a great way to recycle plant based waste. For example: peeling potatoes results in a pile of skin that normally goes into the garbage disposal or the trash. Dumping them into the compost pile is so much better. Mother Nature goes to work breaking the potato skins down and in several months you are rewarded with crumbly, nutrient-rich compost that your plants will love. Feed Fannin does a great service for the community with classes like this. Those who are unfamiliar with gardening are armed with the knowledge to get out there and grow their own vegetables.
