Looking Down the Road Future Bike Share Program and the Fort Collins Bike Library The City of Fort Collins, which manages the Fort Collins Bike Library program, is currently evaluating the possibility of adding an automated bike share system to expand the services of the Bike Library. By investing in bike share in Fort Collins, we will be able to maintain not only the best elements of the current Bike Library with its unique fleet, visitor information, and personalized care, but we will also be able to offer an “express checkout” option for those who prefer an entirely automated experience. The addition of at least 200 bikes at self-service bike checkout stations around town will look very similar to what we know of as traditional bike share systems in other major cities. The main difference is that the “hub” of this uniquely Fort Collins bike share program would be the Bike Library itself, with all of the self-checkout satellite locations making up the “spokes” of the wheel. Riders who want a convenient (and healthy!) mode of transportation to supplement our city’s bus routes, or to take quick trips across town as part of their daily commute, will find the 24-hour express checkout stations to be a huge added value to their day. Those with an annual pass will enjoy zipping around town for far less than the cost of owning and maintaining their own bike - or motor vehicle for that matter. Strategically placed express checkout stations will allow these shared bicycles to truly become an extension of public transit. With the Bike Library Hub located inside of the Downtown Transit Center, it is easier than ever to get around Fort Collins without a car. When this vision is realized, Fort Collins will have the most unique bikeshare program on the planet. Get in on the Ground-floor By sponsoring the Fort Collins Bike Library in 2015, you will be offered first dibs on sponsorship opportunities for the future Fort Collins Bike Share program.
