A Celebration of All Things Wood!
Welcome to the 2014 Made of Wood Show, a juried show and sale of one of a kind works in
wood by artisans from across Canada!
The Made of Wood Show has been held annually since 2001
and is a diverse, exciting show and sale that celebrates “all
things wood”.
This 13th Annual Made of Wood Show was hosted by
the Bartlett Gallery, located in the historic Alton Mill
Arts Centre, in Alton, Ontario. The event took place
from April 26 to May 11, 2014.
In its sixth year, the Made of Wood Show juried exhibition, attracts a wide selection of exemplary works
by professional, hobbyist and students woodworkers. These works, exhibit a broad range of
woodworking techniques and practices. A jury comprised of some of Canada’s top woodworkers chose
the successful entries on the basis of craftsmanship, excellence, design, use of material, creativity and
innovation. Works juried into the show were displayed in the main Made of Wood Show gallery.
In addition to the juried show, the Director’s Invitational Show and Sale featured non-competing pieces
by woodworkers from across the country.

Steven Der-Garabedian
Being drawn to the beauty of wood at an early age
Steven has been woodworking since he was 16. He
pushed his skills through practice, books and talking
with fellow woodworkers until discovering the works
and teachings of James Krenov along with some of the
other masters of the field. He attended Rosewood
Studio where he refined his skills further and started
making custom pieces for clients.
Steven teaches private lessons in his own shop as well
as classes and seminars at Lee Valley Tools, colleges and woodworking clubs. He is also a contributor to
Canadian Woodworking and Home Improvement magazine.
“I enjoy teaching as inevitably I end up learning something and I never want to stop learning”
Although his passion is creating one of a kind pieces, Steven
also enjoys making tools such as wooden hand planes or bow
saws to work the wood for those pieces.
Steven lives and
runs a small shop
Mississauga,
Ontario.

Rob Brown
Rob Brown founded his company Equinox Interiors and has
been making nature inspired custom furniture for clients over
the past decade. Solid wood is his foundation, but he often
incorporates rock slabs, small stones and copper into
commissioned pieces as well as speculative work. However it is
his use of hand-made Japanese paper that draws him a lot of
attention. From traditional shoji screens to cabinet doors
ornamented with what he calls “paper on paper”, his designs
are simple, strong and stylish. Many of his pieces are in
galleries and private residences across Canada.
About 4 years ago Rob became the editor of Canadian
Woodworking & Home Improvement Magazine, though he
continues to build studio furniture on a regular basis.
