Creating a Talisman
Artist: Susan Shaffer
Tuition: $25
Skill Level: Beginner
Age 14 and up
April 14, Sunday, 1-5 pm
A talisman is an object which purports to
contain certain magical properties which protect the
possessor from evil or harm, or provide good luck. The
word talisman means "to consecrate." A talisman must
be charged with magical powers by a creator; it is this
act of consecration or "charging" that gives the talisman
its alleged magical powers. This talisman can contain
items from a loved one who has passed on, becoming a
reservoir of memories of your loved one charged with
the magical powers of prayer as you create it. If your
talisman will be a gift to someone you will want to write
a letter to your loved one explaining the symbology in
the items you’ve selected for your talisman. I can provide ribbons, wire, beads and charms to be
added to your talisman but you will need to provide the mementos. Whether they are buttons,
keys, bullet casings, or coins, the choices are endless.
