encouraging schoolwide participation in the Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge.
You can get additional support at info@fireupyourfeet.org.
In This Toolkit:
• How to use the online activity tracker to track activity for yourself, your family and/or
groups of students
• Tips to encourage participation
• Optional Activity Challenge parent letter and student permission slip
• Optional weekly paper activity trackers
Your Role:
When coordinating the tracking of activity for a school your role is flexible but it is suggested you:
• Track student, classroom or school-wide activity using our online activity tracker
• Track parent acitivty if parents have limited or no computer access
• Encourage parents and school staff to register and track activity
• Distribute permission forms and paper trackers to Challenge participants
Tips for Using the Online Tracker
Registration
• As you register, keep in mind that if you plan to track for more than one school; pick one school
as your preferred, this should the school that you track the majority of activity for as this
school will auto-populate in the tracking section. If you track for other schools, you will have the
opportunity to edit the “school” field within the tracker when needed.
Adding Groups
• Name your group, e.g. Ms. Smith’s Class
• Click on Add More to add more groups - you will need to edit the group name field.
• Make sure to click Submit before moving on.
Adding Participants
• Fill in the name, grade, school and group associated with the participant. Your preferred school
should autopoulate in the school field, remember to change the school name here if adding
participants to another school group. TIP: Use the school name when adding participants from
multiple schools in the Name field ie: Smith Elementary Joe M, Johnson Elementary Joe M.
• If adding multiple participants (students) to a group select the group first and then click ADD
MORE. You will be given multiple lines already populated with that group name within the
group field. It should also auto populate the school but if not, make sure the correct school is
reflected in the School field before adding more.
• If you add rows and then find you don’t need them all, make sure to delete the empty rows
before clicking Submit.
• Give thought to the naming convention used when adding participants so that you can
identify the student during tracking. Here are some suggested conventions: Student First,
Student Last Initial; Teacher Name, Student Last; Grade, Student Last.
Tracking Activity
• If you have a recurring activity such as a Morning Walk/Jog - you can create a Saved Routine. It
will then be available to you to select when logging activity and save you time.
• Fill in the Date, Category, Type, Miles, Minutes and then finally associate the activity with the
participant or group previously added.
• If you are adding multiple activities for a particular group select the Group field first, Click Add
More, and then complete the fields with the date, category, etc. Remember to update the
school field if you are tracking for multiple schools.

walks a few laps at lunch or recess) or a Fire Up Your Feet Friday with an approved assembly time granted for
everyone to get out and get active!

Tracking will close at midnight on the third day.
Activity Challenge Student Permission Form
Dear Parents,
Your family is invited to participate in our school’s Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge. The Challenge
helps encourage families, students and schools to work together to create active lifestyles that keep
families healthy and help kids improve academic performance.
Schools with the most family and school staff participation have the chance to win a portion
of more than $100,000 in awards being offered nationally!
During the Activity Challenge, your child may fill out an activity log (similar to a reading log), or your
teacher will log your child’s activity each week. Examples of activity may include walking or biking to
school, recess, PE class or other sports or outdoor activities. As a parent, you can track your own activity
either online or using a paper tracker as well. If you are using a paper tracker, the Fire Up Your Feet
coordinator for your school will collect your activity log and enter the information into your school’s online
account.
With your permission, Fire Up Your Feet may collect some information about your child including name,
school, and type of physical activity completed during the month. This information will be entered online
by the coordinator at your school and used to calculate your school’s eligibility for a Fire Up Your Feet
Challenge Award. Any personally identifiable information will not be shared with any individuals or parties
outside of Fire Up Your Feet.
As a parent, you also have the option of registering online and tracking your child’s activity through your
personal account. If you wish to sign up and track your child’s activity rather than having the school
coordinator track for your child, go to www.fireupyourfeet.org to register. Note: If your child’s activity is
being tracked at school please do not also track their activity at home.
