Mission Statement
News
We are a community of believers in
God as revealed in Jesus Christ as
Lord. We believe in the authority of
the Bible, the equality of all members,
unity in diversity, and the priesthood of
all believers. In communion with and
through the power of the Holy Spirit,
we follow the Way of Jesus the Christ
and share the Good News through
worship, education, ministries, and
missions. As an autonomous Baptist
Church, we value our heritage and the freedom it allows us to minister
alongside other groups, both Christian and non-Christian. We express our
love for all in gratitude for the love God has shown to us.

Rustlings...
I purchased two
Armenian Ceramic
serving platters in
Jericho while on
pilgrimage in Israel.
On my first trip to Israel in 2008,
I learned to beware of imitation
Armenian Ceramics throughout
the region. Unlike the original,
the craftsmanship is shoddy, the
paint is often lead-based, and they
are not sturdy enough for oven
or microwave. Delighted with my
purchase, I carefully wrapped
them in paper and dirty clothing
(hey, it’s the trip home) insuring the
edges did not touch the shell of my
suitcase at any point. I was certain
– well, hoping – they were safe.
One made it to Greenville whole.
The other was shattered…broken.
I kept the one and discarded the
other. There was nothing more I
could do.
I received over 300 prayer
requests from you to place in
the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
I reverently placed them in a
large envelope. Carried them
trans-Atlantic in my backpack.
At the Western Wall, I divided
them among the pilgrims from our
church. We prayerfully placed each
one in the cracks of the Western
Wall. We prayed. I’m aware that

Spirituality of Dementia: Exploring the Inner World of Dementia
Choice of Date: Thursday, May 7, or Saturday, May 9
Time: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Location: Parlor
Cost: $25 (includes light breakfast and lunch)
Can the world of someone with dementia be understood, especially
when the person can no longer tell about his/her experiences? In this
time of reflection and prayer, participants will seek to better understand
life lived with dementia. God-given imagination is a vital tool by
which empathy is increased, the capacity to relate is deepened, and
compassion is expanded.
The facilitator for this experience is the
Reverend Lynn Casteel Harper. She has served
as a nursing home chaplain for the past seven
years. A recent transplant to Greenville, she
is currently writing a collections of essays on
spirituality and dementia. Her work can be found
at lynncasteelharper.wordpress.com.
Contact Matt Rollins at 233-2527 ext. 144 to
sign up.

Focus on
Missions:
During the
month of April,
emphasis is
being placed
on the on-going
collection of food items for the
United Ministries pantry.
In partnership with Leadership
Greenville and Harper Corporation
and in order to return dignity to
those seeking assistance, United
Ministries plans to overhaul their
crisis food distribution by creating a
client choice food pantry. This will
give those seeking assistance the
ability to choose food items that
fit their families’ needs. In the old
system, pre-packaged bags are
given to qualifying participants. In
the new model, participants will
be able to choose from available
foods that best fit their families’
nutritional needs, thereby cutting
down on food waste and allowing
active participation in their food
assistance experience.
The client choice food pantry
design is donated by Leadership
Greenville Class 41 member Tom
Lockhart and his firm McMillan
Pazdan Smith Architecture.
Harper Corporation will donate
construction services.
Please place donated items
in the collection containers.
Sanctuary Flowers
The flowers in
the Sanctuary this
Sunday, May 3,
are given in loving
memory of Max and

and grandchildren.

wholeness as a result of these
prayers. Even with the prayers,
however, some will retain a sense
of brokenness. That’s okay. God
holds both. And in God’s hands,
nothing is discarded. All things
are made new in God’s way and
God’s time. Your prayers are in the
wall. Your lives are in God’s hands.
