According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, electronics are one of the fastest growing parts of the waste stream, with millions of devices discarded each year in the United States. Wisconsin prohibits disposing of computers and other electronic equipment as trash. The reasons for this prohibition are simple: computers, laser or inkjet printers, tablets, iPhones and other electronic equipment contain materials that can damage the environment. If discarded in landfills, some of those materials, can leach into groundwater. To protect the environment, computers and other electronic equipment should be properly recycled, so that valuable materials are recovered and environmental damage is prevented. What happens to the electronics? When you recycle electronics some of the items will be recycled to a new home. Electronic equipment will be wiped clean of all data.
