Harmonia's Rings: Moebius and More! Sunday April 26, 10 - 1, room A Sivia Harding Moebius knitting has had a special place in my heart ever since I learned the basic technique from Cat Bordhi several years ago. Now (with her blessing), I teach Cat’s cast on along with my particular enhancements of this simple yet endlessly fascinating form. The Harmonia’s Rings family of patterns use Cat Bordhi’s Moebius cast on to achieve the mysterious spiral neck shape, and feature a stitch pattern that creates concentric rings reminiscent of ancient architecture. This cowl sits cape-like over the shoulders, and suits a wide range of body types. This class introduces many techniques: the Moebius cast on, shaping and texture within the Moebius structure, and the charming beaded picot bind off, among others. We discuss customizing the shape to fit any body type. A tunic and a sweater based on the cowl are shown. The Cowl pattern will be provided. Should you wish to cast on for the Tunic or Sweater, you could purchase the pattern from Ravelry.com and bring it to the workshop. Skill Level: Adventurous Beginner Materials: PATTERN The Cowl pattern will be provided. Should you wish to cast on for the Tunic or Sweater, please purchase the pattern in advance and bring it to the workshop. Photos and patterns on Ravelry: cowl sweater tunic YARN REQUIREMENTS will vary, depending on whether you would like to make the cowl, tunic, or sweater with sleeves. COWL: Worsted weight yarn, at least 500 yards, and more for a longer cowl. We will go over possible modifications for size, shape, and length. TUNIC: Worsted weight yarn, approximately 600 (690, 720, 860, 900, 920, 1050) yards for Women’s XS (S, M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X), to fit 32 (34, 36, 41, 44, 46.5, 49)" bust. Tunic has little or no ease in the bust, so keep that in mind when choosing your size. SWEATER: Worsted weight yarn, approximately 690 (825, 875, 1040, 1090, 1130, 1290) yards for Women’s XS (S, M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X), to fit 32 (34, 36, 41, 44, 46.5, 49)" bust. Sweater also has little or no ease in the bust. NEEDLES AND NOTIONS Size 8 (5 mm) circular needle, 47" long. Cables with connectors in the middle (as in some interchangeable needle sets) are not suitable. Stitch markers in 2 colors Crochet hook, steel US 13 or 14 (0.75 or 0.9 mm), or small enough to fit through beads with room for a double strand of yarn 25 size 2/0 or 3/0 seed beads, or 9 mm roller or crow beads (found in craft stores) Homework: Watch the demo on YouTube of Cat Bordhi’s Moebius cast-on technique. Please don't feel that you must learn the cast on from the video. Some people find it easy to do this, and some do not. We will go over the steps in detail in class, and I have a slightly different way of explaining it than Cat does in her video. I guarantee that you will learn it!! I have never failed yet and I have been teaching the Moebius cast on for several years now. max in workshop: 24
