A Quarterly Publication by F.S.E.F.C.U., a full service Credit Union serving Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties MAY 2015 President’s the Message Three words come to mind…Persistence, determination, longevity – three traits that often go together and normally produce good results. We see these things when watching a sports team, an individual pursuing a dream, or a business with a good idea. Our credit union can surely relate to the latter: the long history of “people helping people” is a testament to a good idea becoming great. And here at FSEFCU, we understand and continue to pursue these qualities each day. I am so proud of our Credit Union accomplishments; we held our own and looked toward an upward trend in 2014. Being financially sound is not simply a goal it’s a must. That persistence paid off with a much-improved year, led by an excellent showing in decreased delinquencies and members started to slowly borrow again. This success is a direct reflection of how prudently the credit union acts to protect our members’ financial assets, and also how strategically we grow our products and services. This, coupled with exceptional member service, indicates members’ view FSEFCU as a safe place to save and a trustworthy place to borrow. This is certainly not a milestone that will go unnoticed. Thank you to all who joined us for our 2015 Annual Meeting. The night kicked off our celebration and reminded us of our founding in 1961. It truly is remarkable to think of the determination of those who started it all back then. They provided a place for State Employees to save money and borrow for the necessities of life – just another example of a good idea that became great. We’ll continue to recognize that idea and all that goes with it in the coming months with member participation events and special promotions, and we hope you have an opportunity to enjoy these benefits. You allow us the opportunity to continue to stay a strong viable credit union. All of us at FSEFCU “thank you”. You provided the inspiration, and you continue to provide the reason for our existence. Yes, persistence and determination often lead to longevity and to success. We are happy to be a part of “people helping people” and striving to “Build a Better Tomorrow”. The fastest growing crime in America is identity theft, and the best protection is prevention. Here are some tips to safeguard your good name: 1. Protect your Social Security number. Do not carry your card in your wallet. 2. Do not give out your personal information unless you made the contact. Scam artists “phish” for victims by pretending to be credit unions, banks, stores, government agencies, etc. They do it by phone, email, and snail mail. 3. Shred papers with personal information. Always shred credit card offers that you don’t use. Also, shred those “convenience checks” you don’t use. 4. Open your credit card bills and bank statements right away. Check for unauthorized charges or withdrawals and report them immediately. 5. Protect your computer from viruses and malware. Use firewall, virus, and spyware protection software - make sure it is updated regularly. Always use “strong” passwords. 6. Always click with caution online. Only enter personal information on secure Web pages with “https” in the address bar and a padlock symbol at the top or bottom of your browser window. The National Credit Union Association (NCUA) has received reports of a phishing scam claiming to offer services on behalf of the NCUA. Please beware of any phone calls or email you receive requesting your personal information.
