It contains the screen and the buttons that allow you to access all of the functions and features of the tuner. The PSGT Polaris assembly connects to your vehicle through the diagnostic port, which is located either under the hood or dash, depending on the vehicle. The Diagnostic Harness has a connection for the HDMI cable that plugs into the back of the PSGT Polaris Head Unit. The illustration and numbered list below contain more information about the other parts of this important piece of the PSGT Polaris assembly. Front Side: 1 The PSGT Polaris head unit has seven capacitive touch buttons. Capacitive touch is a button style that is sensitive to the presence of your finger. Capacitive buttons do not need to be pushed, only touched to activate. The front of the PSGT Polaris head unit features a 2.4” LCD screen. (the middle three buttons on the left are not used) 1 Back Side: 1. T-Slot Mount Socket: Allows user to mount the PSGT Polaris with different mounting. 4. Mini-USB port: This is the port used to connect the PSGT Polaris to a computer with the included Mini-USB cable. 6 2 7 4 2 2. HDMI port 3. Micro SD card port: Houses the included Micro SD card which stores information for the PSGT. 4 48100 PSGT POLARIS PARTS DESCRIPTION 3 3 5 1. Diagnostic Harness: Connects to the vehicle diagnostic 5. HDMI Port: Connects the Diagnostic Harness to the port. PSGT Polaris Head Unit. 2. Power Wire Port: This port is not used for the PSGT Polaris. 6. Future Peripherals: Not currently in use – may be used to connect additional devices in the future. 3. Fuse: The adapter plug fuse protects the PSGT Polaris from being damaged by unexpected power surges. 7. Pyrometer/Sensor Docking Station Port: Connects the PSGT Polaris to optional sensors including pyrometers or the Bully Dog Sensor Docking Station. 4. Power Switch: THIS IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT The user will notice that on the power switch, they have two available options. The first is KEY, and the second is BATT. It is important that the user will leave the switch only on BATT, (unless directed otherwise in this manual) as this is the only function will allow the PSGT Polaris to work properly. 3 4 48100 PSGT POLARIS Zip Ties To ensure that the wiring on your PSGT Polaris does not make contact with working or heated parts of your engine, use these zip ties to secure the PSGT Polaris wiring to safe portions of your vehicle engine compartment. The HDMI cable connects the PSGT Polaris Head Unit to the Diagnostic Harness.Right Angle HDMI Adapters are included for your convenience and can be used to redirect the HDMI cable coming out of the Data Plug. 48100 PSGT POLARIS HDMI Cable and Right Angle HDMI Adapters Arm, Ball/T-slot, Ball/Stud and Hardware microSD Card This included assembly is the standard mounting option for securing your PSGT Polaris Unit to your vehicle. The microSD memory card holds all of the electronic files for the PSGT Polaris; the PSGT Polaris will not function if the card is not installed. The card can also be removed from the PSGT Polaris Head Unit and connected to a computer via the included card reader for periodic updates. microSD Card Reader In case your computer does not have an SD Card Reader port, you can plug your microSD Card into this device and then plug it into a normal USB port in your computer to access the files for updating. Power Wire 5 The Power Wire can only be used with the Razor 1000, as an option to run the PSGT when the user powers on the UTV. 4 3 2 1 Dielectric Grease Dielectric Grease is a fluid used to protect the ports on your Head Unit and Diagnostic Harness. Apply one or two drops to each port on the PSGT Polaris to ensure a firm connection. Battery Clamps These are used only by Polaris sled owners. Velcro Use velcro as a mounting option to secure the PSGT to your vehicle. 5 6 48100 PSGT POLARIS Installation is simple, however, should you need help, Bully Dog Technical Support is open Monday-Friday 7am-6pm Mountain Standard Time: 940-783-9916. Before calling in, first go to bullydog.com and select the "Chat with a Tech" option under the Quick Links on the main page. Fill out ALL of the information boxes before calling in. For the most recent quick install guide go to powersports.bullydog.com. 5. Use the Dielectric Grease to lube the ports on you Diagnostic Harness block and then plug the HDMI Cable. (you can use the Right Angle HDMI Adapters wherever they are most useful) Make sure that the switch on the Diagnostic Harness is flipped to " BATT". (UNLESS YOUR VEHICLE IS THE RZR 1000 in which case you should leave it flipped to KEY) 1. In your PSGT Polaris package, find the Diagnostic Harness. 48100 PSGT POLARIS PHYSICAL INSTALL: UTV 6. Plug the remaining end of the HDMI Cable to the Head Unit. 2. On the block of the Diagnostic Harness, you will find a switch that can either be flipped to "KEY" or "BATT". Make sure it is set to "BATT". 7. Secure the block assembly away from sources of heat and moving part, then route the HDMI Cable wire to the desired mounting point with the provided Zip Ties. 8. This step is for RZR 1000 owners ONLY, if you are tuning a RZR 1000, follow the install steps below. Otherwise, skip to the next step (9). a. This is where we will use the Power Wire to wire the PSGT Polaris directly to your vehicle. b. First take out your front seat using the lever on the front. 3. Now plug in the Diagnostic Harness to your vehicle based on one of the following locations shown below. Make sure the Powersports tuner is plugged into your vehicle (ignition set to “run”), press the menu button on the top left side of the display screen, select “Tuning” on the Main Menu then select "Install Bully Dog Tuning". SPARE 10A SPARE 20A Go Back ACC. 20A d. Ignore the other wires that run to the fuse box (don't unplug them). Remove the fuse, insert the Power Wire and re-connect the fuse. e. Make sure the Power Wire is secure, snap the fuse box cover back in place and re-install your seat. 9. Connecting the PSGT Polaris and selecting vehicle a. Connect the HDMI Cable to the PSGT Polaris Head Unit then insert the provided microSD Card. b. Switch your key to "on" without starting the vehicle to power up the PSGT Polaris. Go to the main menu on the PSGT, scroll to the bottom and choose "Change Vehicle/Engine", then find your vehicle model and year. If you cannot find your vehicle, contact tech support. (940-783-9916). The PSGT will connect to the engine computer. ‣‣ You will see multiple loading screens displayed on the PSGT Polaris Head Unit. The process of uninstalling the tune or “returning to stock” is very similar to the original process of installing the tune because the PSGT actively reprograms the engine computer. Go through this uninstall process before switching your PSGT to another vehicle or if you want to return your vehicle to its stock un-tuned state. ‣‣ This process will take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. DO NOT touch the key during this install process. RETURN TO STOCK This will remove tune files from vehicle selected: Detailed instructions 1. Polaris Monitoring for all Polaris Vehicles Finished Downloading Finished Cycle Key Before Starting Engine Speed This option shows the current vehicle speed. RPM This option shows the number of revolutions per minute of the engine. Coolant (Coolant Temperature) This option shows the coolant temperature. 8. Make sure to cycle the key OFF and back ON. 9. Check the status of the PSGT to make sure that its uninstalled. a. Go to the Main Menu, scroll down and select "Show Settings". MAIN MENU Go Back User Options Up Show Settings Update Device Software Select Down b. Check WD status; if it is "Locked to Vehicle" the pre-loaded Bully Dog tunes are still installed, call technical support (940-783-9916). If it is "Unlocked from Vehicle" the tune is uninstalled and your vehicle is back to its stock state. Go Back WD SYSTEM INFO WD status: Serial #: HW version: Memory: SWa version: SWb version: Locked Tuning KPOWERSPORTS 1.5 20BA18 2.0.0.7 0 Throttle (Throttle Position) This option shows the throttle position measurement – it is displayed as the percent open. Intake Temp (Intake Temperature) This option shows the intake air temperature. 48100 PSGT POLARIS PSGT POLARIS MONITORING a. Once finished, you will see a "Finished" screen. Battery (Battery Voltage) This option shows the current battery voltage. Not available on all vehicles. Monitoring Available only for RZR UTV Injector PTO Displays the duration of injection for the PTO cylinder. Timing PTO This is the final timing of the PTO cylinder. Injector MAG (Not available on 570) Displays the duration of injection for the MAG cylinder. Timing MAG (Not available on 570) This is the final timing of the MAG cylinder. Monitoring Available with Additional Bully Dog Products A sensor docking station will allow access to even more monitoring options for Bully Dog customers. Accessing these options however, is only possible after buying additional sensors and pyros depending on what the customer is most interested in monitoring. The following features are available with the Sensor Docking Station part numbers 40383, 40384 and 40385. For further details see "Sensor Docking Station" section in this manual. BD Pyro 1 & 2 Add a Pyro and Sensor Docking Station to get access to a pyrometer which measures exhaust gas temperagures (EGT's). Both Pyro 1 and Pyro 2 measure exhaust gas temperature. The only difference between them is where the user mounts the temperature sensors. BD Frequency Pulses This gauge option shows the information from a pulsing type sensor, similar to an on-board speed sensor or another optional sensor that operates on the 0-5kHz 5V pulse range. The port on the Bully Dog Sensor Docking Station for this gauge option is marked as FN. Down BD Temperature Two wire temperature sensor used for measuring additional temperatures in the engine in correlation with a sensor that the user will purchase separately. BD AUX 1, 2 & 3 This gauge option shows the information from sensors connected to the 0-5V auxiliary inputs on the Bully Dog Sensor Docking Station. The following feature is only accessible with the Sensor Docking Station part number 40385. BD A/F Ratio 1 & 2 This gauge option shows the ratio of air to fuel. This provides the user with the ability to watch the AFR's.The O2 sensor, (available online) will have to be purchased separately.. 15 16 The buttons are also dynamic and will have different functions on each screen. Be sure to pay attention to each screen to see if a label is provided for a certain button. Information for individual button functions on certain screens is provided in this manual when appropriate. The PSGT Polaris has three different display styles for the user to choose from, each shown below. The user can also change which parameters are displayed by pressing the bottom button to the left of the display screen, and then using buttons to the right of the display screen to cycle through available parameters. Cycle to the next gauge by pressing the bottom left button. Menu 48100 PSGT POLARIS The buttons on the PSGT Polaris are Capacitive Touch. This means that a light touch is all that is needed to choose different options. You do not need to push hard or get the buttons to move down or in for the PSGT Polaris to work. Display Style 1: This shows two parameters on the upper half of the display, and then a graph on the lower half which gives a visual representation of the selected parameters. Menu Menu RPM 0 12.0 PSI Gauges FUNCTION 1: Press the top left button to enter the Main Menu, also use this button to exit menus. Baro RPM 48100 PSGT POLARIS OPERATING THE PSGT POLARIS Baro 0 12.0 RPM PSI Display Style 3: This shows four parameters on the whole display, for users who don't wish to use the graph. Select each parameter by touching the lower left button and cycle through available parameters using the buttons to the right of the display screen. 18 48100 PSGT POLARIS This section is a comprehensive explanation of the options available on the Main Menu. It includes detailed instructions for features that require setup. All of the subsections in this part of the manual will appear in the order in which they are displayed on PSGT Polaris Main Menu. Go Back MAIN MENU Tuning up This feature is used to record engine performance over a period of up to 20 minutes. The results produced from using this feature detail how your engine is running. The submenu contains four options. Vehicle Diagnostics Performance Testing Install BullyDog Tuning Install the preloaded PSGT tunes from Bully Dog to your vehicle engine. For comprehensive instructions, check the "Installing Bully Dog Tune" section. Install Custom Tuning This option is available only if the user decides to purchase a tuning package from a list of available dealers and manufacturers at bullydog.com. The dealer will provide tuning instructions with their custom tunes. Uninstall Device If the tune is already installed, this option will allow you to return to stock (basically uninstall the tune) or change certain settings that can only be changed by writing a new tune to the ECM. To complete this step, see "UNINSTALL THE TUNE" section. Set Parameters Choose up to eight different parameters that you want the PSGT Polaris to monitor for your tracking preferences. Set Trigger Values These values function as triggers, or trip values that will tell your PSGT Polaris to automatically begin data logging. MAIN MENU Set Parameters Set Trigger Values up DOWN Select 1. Select "Data Logging" from the Main Menu to find the Data Logging submenu. Select "Set Parameters" and then "CONTINUE" on the following screen. To manually start the Data Logging function, return to the "Data Logging" menu by pressing "Go Back" then choose the "Start" option. If you have used the Data Logging function before, but have not saved your log, you will be asked if you want to save previous logs. If not, the GT will begin the data log. To determine if the PSGT or tune is causing a DTC, follow these steps: 1. Uninstall the tune. 2. Drive the vehicle for about one week. ‣‣ If the DTC comes back during this time, there is a problem with your vehicle and you should contact an OEM certified mechanic. ‣‣ If the DTC doesn’t come back during this time, proceed to the next step. To view Data Logging results: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Visit bullydog.com then find and select the "download" tab along the top of the main page. Select "Datalogging Software" and click on the red underlined "Download Datalogging Software" link. Once you have loaded this, open it up, and connect your PSGT SD Card. From the DataLogger program, choose Menu, then click "Select Log Data". Find and select your SD card files, and the data logged entry will now be available for playback. Vehicle Diagnostics Read and erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the engine computer. (The tune does not have to be installed to use this function of the PSGT.) To Read DTCs: 1. Go to the Main Menu (top left button) and highlight "Vehicle Diagnostics" (right button). 2. SELECT the highlighted option (bottom left button). Go Back MAIN MENU Vehicle Diagnostics User Options Select This feature offers the ability to complete a 1/4 Mile and 0-100 KPH performance tests. You can also download saved tests from your PSGT Polaris to your computer and analyze it using the Bully Dog Performance Testing Software. The software is available by free download from Powersports.bullydog.com. This software allows you to download saved Performance Testing data from your PSGT Polaris to your computer and display the information as a graph for easy analysis. You will be able to get graphs and raw Excel data for: speed, RPM, horsepower, and torque. You can print drag racing time slips, save and rename tests, and download up to 20 tests from your PSGT Polaris at one time. Visit www.bullydog.com/performance_testing.php to download this free software To access these "Performance Testing" features, select the "Performance Testing" from the Main Menu, read the "Disclaimer" screen and select "YES" (top right button). When installing the PSGT, select whichever make and model of recreation vehicle you are operating so the device can calibrate to your machine correctly. YES Specify the vehicle engine type.
