of the “Safe Home for Life” reforms
Day 1 will outline the changes to child protection legislation
and practice under the ‘Safe Home for Life’ reforms and the
broad implications for families and the service system. The

What will be different for families under the new system?

How might these changes show up in our work with
families?

What do these changes mean for how we engage with
and support families in their child protection rights and
responsibilities?

How might this impact the role of workers across the
service delivery continuum?


Day 2“Impacts and Practice Implications for
Aboriginal Families and Community”
Day 2 will build on worker knowledge taking the discussion further
in exploring the specific impacts and implications of the ‘Safe
Home for Life’ child protection reforms for Aboriginal families and
communities. The day will offer Aboriginal specific expert advice

community and a culturally based discussion panel to explore on
the ground issues for workers.
The aim for the day will be to explore:

How do the impacts of past history of stolen generation, removal and
over representation in the child protection system fit within the new
framework?

What are likely to be the direct impact on families and community and
how are these best managed and supported by workers and the
service system as a whole?

What special considerations need to be held at the center of practice to
minimise any ongoing injustice and inequality or other negative
impacts on Aboriginal families and community?

What are the key messages for supporting the safety and wellbeing of
Aboriginal children in ways that best support cultural identity,
