The Twilight Concert Series Presents American Rock Band, The Flaming
Lips Thursday July 25 at Pioneer Park
SALT LAKE CITY – The Twilight Concert Series is pleased to announce that on July
25, American rock band The Flaming Lips will perform at Pioneer Park. The group has
been writing, recording and touring their music for more than three decades.
There is no easy moniker for the Flaming Lips – their music has been described as a
multi-layered and lush psychedelic experience, while lyrically they are more “space
rock.” However one decides to classify them, there is no arguing their innovation or
creative drive. The band has been a critical favorite since their first album Hear It Is was
released in 1986 and they achieved commercial success in 1993 with the breakout hit,
“She Don’t Use Jelly.” But what separates the Flaming Lips most drastically from their
contemporaries is their live show.
The shows are complete with lights, lasers, confetti and even an inflatable orb that singer
and keyboardist Wayne Coyne bravely traverses out atop the audience inside of. What
will be included in their live show is anyone’s guess, but what is certain is that the
Flaming Lips live is a spectacle. In 2002, Q Magazine listed the Oklahoma natives as
“one of the 50 bands you must see before you die.”
The group is currently on a national tour for their new album, The Terror, which was
released April of this year.
Also performing will be special guest, CSS, an art-pop band from Sao Paulo, Brazil. CSS
is currently on tour for their new album, Planta.
